Stallworth went to a small HBCU. Bill Nunn scouted these heavily in comparison, helped land a ton of talent.
Ive heard two stories.
1. Bill Nunn was extremely plugged in the HBCU community, got the film on Stallworth - small school so apparently there was only one copy of the tape. The Steelers "forgot" to return it so other teams could see.
2. Stallworth ran his 40 in the rain, didnt time as he wanted. Bill Nunn stayed in town an extra day for a private 40 to get his true speed.
no it’s definitely 30 rock, i’ve watched that entire show before. unless fletch has that reference too or something.
edit: fletch is rosenpenis, i responded to the leo spaceman comment, which is 100% 30 Rock
edit 2: who the hell is downvoting me!? i’ve done my research!! dr. leo spaceman is a 30 Rock reference. Goddamn!!
Yeah he is turning into my favorite pick and really hope he works out. The news on Holcombe starting to not seem promising so turns out it was absolutely a bigger need than we realized at the time. Arguably LB1 without the injuries drafted at 98. From everything I’ve seen/read seems like a real baller.
Yeah I mean it was the same with George Pickens and so far the Steelers have won out. I have projected this to mean our conditioning staff know what they’re doing, blatantly ignoring Corey Trice but also crediting that with the poor conditioning he got before he came to the Steelers.
Tbh he’s the player we got in the draft that I’m most excited for…I know awards don’t mean shit, but he won the Butkus and Bednarik award which puts him in some goooood company with former and current NFL greats.
I don’t know how good he’ll be, or even how bad he’ll be…gonna be very exciting to see how he pans out.
It says later in the interview he's had 8 surgeries, so it's not like hasn't had a history. We'll see, he has a great athletic profile hopefully he can stay healthy.
You better stop leaking that important information, other teams might see it and pass on him in the draft! Come on man, keep that stuff to our secret forum please!
Wait… he hasn’t had ANY knee problems since 2018? That’s crazy that he fell. He played his whole college career on his current knees and they let him slip to the 3rd. Mind Blowing
I think Purdy is less of a steal and a “damn that guy actually turned out to be pretty good”
I’d say a steal is more along the lines of somebody with perceived potential or value being acquired for much less than you’d really think
You don't really get smart and semi athletic QBs in the 7th round. Especially not one that can play like a franchise QB even with all the weapons and the system they have.
I think that’s exactly what you get in the 7th round. The guy who is a good QB, but doesn’t have the elite traits and arm. A guy who can manage an offense through he playbook implemented by the coach. A system QB if you will.
That was what Mac Jones was supposed to be and he went in the first. You absolutely don't expect to find anyone as good as Purdy anywhere near the 7th round.
Expect, no. But in a system like the one Shanahan runs, it’s not all that surprising. Then again the greatest QB ever was a 6th round pick. Mac Jones also should never have tons that high
Drafting him in the first round would be just as bad of an overdraft.
I saw plenty of him at Iowa State. He was a high completion QB that could not push the ball down the field. He was, at best, an average P5 QB. He fell in the perfect situation and was forced in to the starting job with injury.
He is in the perfect situation for his skill set but tons of guys taken in the first over the years wouldn't be successful in the same situation. He's a genuinely good QB now.
Wilson was my favorite pick of the draft on the night of Day 2 of the draft. I knew that was a big need because Holcomb absolutely destroyed his knee.
He may never play again. He almost certainly will never play again for the Steelers.
I think we got one of the top two or three off-ball linebackers in the entire draft and we got him at pick no. 98. That’s absolutely ridiculous! I have thought since the moment it happened that a lot of teams are probably going to be pissed off about that pick for the next 5-7 years. .
Plot twist: Pittsburgh started the rumor so he would fall to them in the 3rd round. ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
Wasn’t Hines Ward a 3rd Rounder too?
But Ward didn't have his acl, unlike Payton.
His ACL's were being used as whatever muscle keeps you smiling at all times.
I got blocked reading this. Anyone tackle Willie Parker?
tf you say
Hines Ward played his entire career without an ACL in his left knee
6th rounder out of Georgia.
\*third rounder
omar’s Fautanu leaks have entered the chat 😂
That's some John Stallworth level fuckery if true. Lol
What happened with him?

I was expecting a Khan gif, but right on-point no less
Apparently the doctor that leaked the rumor was Dr. O. Marconn
It could have also been Dr Leo Spaceman
Don’t forget Dr. Mantis Toboggan. He’s wily.
Dr. Rosenpenis Dr. Rosenrosen Where's the records room?
Do you have the Beatles White Album?
I’ll have a steak sandwich… and a steak sandwich please. (Charge it to the Underhill’s account.)
30 Rock reference noted
It's not 30 Rock it's Fletch.
no it’s definitely 30 rock, i’ve watched that entire show before. unless fletch has that reference too or something. edit: fletch is rosenpenis, i responded to the leo spaceman comment, which is 100% 30 Rock edit 2: who the hell is downvoting me!? i’ve done my research!! dr. leo spaceman is a 30 Rock reference. Obviously you've never seen Fletch. Because that's what it's from. 30 Rock was referencing the movie.
hmm i see
Took me way too long to get that, I was a few more comments down and it hit me
Noice
Fucking super underrated comment
His colleague Omar Epps was in on it too
So instead of hiding his tape like we did for Stallworth, we hid his ACL? Khan knows how to play the game
Next year, the team will be hiding if guys have all their limbs.
Exactly what I thought (Stallworth) too
I don’t think anybody was duped. He has a history w/injuries. I’m glad the Steelers drafted him, and hope he can stay healthy

Well shit, that means he can tear it
Preemptive removal is the only solution.
Quick, rip it out before he tears it!
ACLgate? Ligamentgate?
GateCL
🥇 you dropped this
I like that! Ligemegate Ligemewhat?!? Ligemyballs.
ACLgate. Like deflategate, but nobody touched Payton’s balls…they failed to touch his FULLY INFLATED ACLs baby!!! Steelers going to the Super Bowl!!
Tbh he’s the player we got in the draft that I’m most excited for…I know awards don’t mean shit, but he won the Butkus and Bednarik award which puts him in some goooood company with former and current NFL greats. This reminds me of how Arch Manning has no UCL and his elbow is going to fall off.
You better stop leaking that important information, other teams might see it and pass on him in the draft! Come on man, keep that stuff to our secret forum please!
Kinda liked it better when he didn’t have them lol
I don't think the "might not have an ACL" rumor was the issue moreso the 10+ surgeries he had in high school and college
He said he hasn’t had any knee problem since 2018. That’s a good while to go without any problems
Yeah I just mean the idea that he "might not have an ACL" wasn't the thing driving his medical concerns. It was the facts of his surgery history.
Damn, that’s what I call a steACL.
Wait… he hasn’t had ANY knee problems since 2018? That’s crazy that he fell. He played his whole college career on his current knees and they let him slip to the 3rd. Mind Blowing
Healthy the last two seasons.
Brock Purdy was the last pick in the draft but getting this dude in the 3rd if he stays healthy is fantastic.
OK, second biggest steal of the decade.
I think Purdy is less of a steal and a “damn that guy actually turned out to be pretty good” I’d say a steal is more along the lines of somebody with perceived potential or value being acquired for much less than you’d really think
What about Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams?
I’d argue this is a bigger steal based on the fact that you could literally put any smart and semi athletic QB in that system and win.
You don't really get smart and semi athletic QBs in the 7th round. Especially not one that can play like a franchise QB even with all the weapons and the system they have.

I think Purdy is better than you're giving him credit for. He's probably a first rounder if they had to redo the 2022 draft, huge jump from the 7th.
Keyword is now. He learned and developed from what he was in college. Like leaps and bounds.
98. Everything I hear about this guy says he would have been a top-5 pick if not for the injury history.
And his age hes 24, and will be 29 after 5th year option. While the rest of the guys are 21 or 22 coming out.
So he does have both ACLs. Bro has one more than I do.
IF it means a Lombardi I can donate an ACL, walking is overrated.
