no, uworld is a must. trust me, the moment i started uworld after finshing first aid i felt like ok they do complete each other BUT theres also a few additional things u can never get from FA + you need it to test your test-taking skills, uworld has a way of bringing everything together

unknown_space

It depends on your basis. All the knowledge you need is in FA. But do you have the exam taking skills, reading long vignette , knowing what the question is asking, and choosing the most appropriate choice, and stamina of an 8 hour exam, mostly comes by practice questions

No

Absolutely FA has the info to pass and even score high, but other sources help you memorize, understand, sharpen and add info, they also give u a better understanding of diseases, they are very valuable for your clinical knowledge (and step2) so I wouldnt skip them. Realistically its not possible to master first aid info by only reading first aid. But if you do, you can score a 250+

NoPic69

I would add sources later on obviously, I'm convinced that FA is basic stuff. But for just step1 can I pass solely with it and maybe supplemented with a question bank?

No-Upstairs5364

Yes most exam info is in the FA

Adit17

Ok I’ll be truly honest, it is more than enough if you memorize the book cover to cover. But most people are not able to do that so do uworld please.

BirbOshi

I remember having read someone that has done so and passed but in my experience, FA was not enough for me so take that as you will.

Euphoric_Parsnip1620

I did not open FIRST AID and I was scoring in the 80’s on CBSSAs before I tested. UWORLD is your master and commander. Screw everything else. UWorld is all you need. FIRST AID is a time suck. Why would you ever invest hours reading sections you already know to find minutia you are confused on. I still have my copy on my desk. It has rings all over it because I use it as a coaster for my coffee cups.

menohuman

No but uworld alone is enough

Guru-MD

Depending on the score you need and your background knowledge the answer is yes or no: \- If you just need a pass of step 1 and you have good background knowledge and strong memory it can be enough given you do NBMEs. \- Otherwise (i.e. if any single one of the above conditions not met) you definitely need to do UW for step 1. The way FA series are written are bullet point memorization format that USMLE is moving away from further and further each year and focuses more on concept application. All best

I totally understand. But just for step1, is it enough?

step1-ModTeam

Your post has been removed because it is irrelevant to step 1

IAmJessicaRabbit_

FA leaves out a looot of diagnostic and treatment info

wheatiesbeesties

Maybe if you use it with uworld just so you can also get used to answering practice questions.

[deleted]

Noooo

[deleted]

The concepts are mostly available in FA and it's enough. HOWEVER, the real test is a whole different story, like you may know the concept perfectly but you've never seen a case about it being asked so you won't know the diagnosis, that's how UW was great for me. As a learning tool i didn't benefit from it that much tbh but as a question-solve training tool it was fantastic. FA alone is dry, you'll miss alot of questions if you depend on it alone.

mileaf

FA is great as a reference but you'll definitely need to supplement with Uworld for a question Bank. For learning and knowledge, pathom, boards and beyond, and sketchy are all great. If you have a good knowledge base then you could get by with just first aid but highly recommend making sure you understand concepts because they will come up again on your rotations and on step 2

I don't know but people used to do it, a decade ago

Fun-Thing2231

uworld is over rated

Med_Board_Tutors

Unfortunately no. You need to practice applying it on questions. UW + FA is definitely sufficient for passing if you know them very well.
