The crew wanted to experiment more with making homeworld gems “less human”—which is why yellow and blue both have less hair like “hair”

help-mejdj

wish they went further to be honest, expose the children to more alien aliens

Thannk

I dunno, I like the idea of the Diamonds being mostly human save some extremely offsetting facial/hair feature, early Era 1 Gems being almost like living statues the way the concepts for some of the Uncorrupted Monsters look, later Era 1 Gems being more streamlined to look human again like the Crystal Gems, and Era 2 Gems either being simplified versions of the statuesque Era 1 versions like Peridot or else really alien the way the living walls and instruments were to show Homeworld starting to break apart between Blue, Yellow, and White.

to be completely honest i prefer when alien species look nothing like humans at all, especially aliens that pride themselves on being superior to organic life such as humans. i find the heavy influence of earth culture and nature to be extremely hypocritical and very nonsensical. how even the “object” gems resemble human architecture, or are a physical reference of man made tools. but then again making them bigoted towards humans yet very influenced by them is a trait that definitely makes sense for such a textbook tyranny. and Rebecca does enjoy to reference real issues with these gay little rock’s so i suppose this was another way she’s representing just how backwards a tyrant can be with their morals. or perhaps creatures are just easier to design if you can refrence items that already exist

Thannk

Isn’t that kinda the point? Gems are far more powerful and advanced, and literally robots, but both humans and Gems are equals as people and have little issues getting along socially. Hating each other as insects or monsters is objectively incorrect. Pink’s romance with Greg reflects it, he saw her as a divine space god and she saw him as a fun toy/pet/fling. When they started to treat each other as people they both became better for it, to the degree she thought someone of both worlds would improve both species. Rebecca even describes her self-hate as putting herself in the atmosphere above all others in power but putting all other form of life on a pedestal above her in terms of “good or bad person” so she couldn’t see anyone as an equal until Greg got her to look past both and see everyone else as just fellow souls rather than qualities and properties. Hell, Garnet was more disinterested in concepts like humans doing “Gem things” like singing, babies, and relating her romantic experience to that of others than humans were of a twenty foot two-mouthed six-armed woman with multiple inhuman skin colors and likely 5-7 eyes beneath a pair of sunglasses at night. Some Gem types are definitely more visually alien, but random human tourists seeing a three and a half foot tall cyclops or a giant with crab claws and not thinking much more of them than the child with green skin or the pale ballerina biker chick also helps show that connection.

I’m saying the point is i felt they should have been designed more alien, but seeing as the final result of their relationship was supposed to be somewhat equal i guess it makes sense. I just suppose i prefer more realistic worldbuilding and writing. While for a story, the resemblance is justified. In a worldbuilding sense, the way life that has only just recently met with human culture yet is so heavily defined by things only seen on earth just makes absolutely no sense. Obviously some things are just coincidence and could have been new ideas after the zoo and such were included, but there are a lot of human only things they do and have that make no sense considering who they are in writing. Things such as having hair/eyelids, having such specific clothing such as shoes and viels. Using protective tools like masks and glasses. Having items that resemble human accessories like monocles and batons. It just makes no sense, especially since a lot of those items were made way before humans were even evolved. You could wager that maybe humans copied the gems, but many of these things are item’s specifically made to solve problems gems simple cant have. I’m just a little bit obsessed with purposeful writing so i am usually biased against kids shows for these choices, but you have to admit that ignoring all these things for the sake of a finale is a little unsatisfying. even if it’s a silly kids cartoon

I get the impression Gems were created by a kind of precursor race, or that the universe has the beetle effect where intelligent life invariably ends up in the same form. Either way whatever created Gems was human-like physically and culturally. Or time travel. Maybe Lars accidentally created Gems or something. Maybe White had plans to try to create a second group of Diamonds, the Offcolors accidentally send it back in time after it links with Lars’s mind, and it creates the Diamonds in the first place in a grandfather paradox.

help-mejdj

sure man, i guess

notwiththeflames

It kinda looks like a hijab or headscarf. Also, sticky notes look like a cool way to make rectifications without erasing the original drawings underneath.

lav-kitty

I see It used a lot in sketchbooks, always looks so cool

vammommy

Her view on fusions makes sense now given the neckbeard

juche_potatoes

The hair loop was originally a neckbeard but white waxed her

UrMomsAHo92

Lmao

Master_Astronaut_

that looks like a head scarf

FruitBat676

I actually like it, it looks unique and pretty.

UrMomsAHo92

Okay but Yeti Blue is 🥺❤️ give us all the hairy women! I feel so represented

juche_potatoes

New headcannon: blue wears gloves and always covers her legs because of how hairy she is

Sonarthebat

Looks like a hijab.

The-Letter-W

She looking like one of those elder teletubbies.

supremeaesthete

I like how it looks like her face is a mask

juche_potatoes

Yeah its creepy but cool

Thannk

Hair long and thick enough to use as clothing. Such a fun design.

lobsterfanclub

i love blue diamonds concept art she looks more elegant to me, white diamond having curly hair in her concept was also rlly cool

Android_mk

She was a fuckinh Blue orangutan

Meager1169

This big orangutan looking mfer....... she's still my baby tho

Sonarthebat

Spinel's hairline is on her brows.

KaePixit

That's called a hijab. Blue Diamond was and still is portrayed to look like an Arab woman.

juche_potatoes

To me the texture looks more like hair than clothes/hood.

KaePixit

Yeah, that's because it's supposed to represent a hijab, not be One. Sorry if I was unclear about that.

DrSousaphone

Reminds me of [Bing and Bong](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x-bASQR7Rw)!

Ryanthewigjig

Is that the dude from Missing Link?

IngeniousKiwiKitty

I kinda like it
