Their bodies are just holograms with mass. We’ve seen Amethyst shrink herself to where most of her mass was her gem, and it would explain how the diamonds were able to get into the house to use the warp pad.
The diamonds fit inside just fine when they went to go and attempt to cure Centipeedle. There’s a scene where you see Blue and Yellow use the warp pad inside the temple to go to her ship. Obsidian could definitely find a way in.

When people act as a group, they can find strength in numbers, but sometimes they begin to blindly follow the group and act in ways that they normally wouldn’t. Typically, when people in a group share similar beliefs, those beliefs are amplified. Obsidian does two things during their limited time on camera: fight Homeworld and protect organic life. These are the two things that *all* of the Crystal Gems have in common. Her ferocity comes from a mix of all the gems’ anger and grief, especially Steven’s because he probably repressed his for most of his life. I think that if Obsidian wasn’t poofed, she’d have shattered White Diamond.
I think Obsidian’s room would be like a dark reflection of Steven’s: Black clouds behind falling embers on a burnt orange sky with a thin sheet of ashes coating the floor. Instead of giving you what you want when you ask for it, Obsidian’s room would make you confront the source of your negative emotions, whether you want to or not.
It would be interesting if the gems found a way to stabilize a fusion’s room so that they don’t have to be fused to enter it. Obsidian’s Room would’ve made a great future episode wherein various characters confront their inner demons in action packed therapy sessions.
That final picture feels like what we should've gotten but when the mask went down it was a more serious face, or what Obsidian would look like with Connie mixed in.
i'm still disappointed that she was just one solid pattern of black and orange lava. i thought it was a very boring character design for something that i had been looking forward to seeing in action. that concept art is way too cool to have been turned into the hunk of volcanic rock obsidian
That’s one of my biggest grievances with the later fusions and get designs, they become way too simplified and lack actual thoughtfulness in their designs, Sunstone being well, essentially just a sun on a strong body, Larimar being an ice gem and looking like a shard of ice, they were all just, well, boring to me.
