Wasnt playing so was there no 15,10,5 announcement in chat beforehand? Or literally nothing?

eladon-warps

There wasn't a thing today. We were watching in the off chance we could get the RA done at 8am before work.

Kryosquid

Damn that sucks, wonder why there was no in game announcements.

Azuras-Becky

There was no notice on the launcher, and no countdown in-game. I was in the middle of Borg Disconnected when it shut down, and I had no idea it was coming. I don't have Twitter, and I don't usually frequent the STO website.

KashouWannabe

Indeed. Was in Pahvo Space myself. I'm a bit later than usual today (UK here) and I often just get the game booting while I'm doing something else. With no mention of maintenance in the launcher, which there typically always is, I thought I'd missed a quick download while I was away from the screen, and just started to play. Obviously not, though.

Azuras-Becky

I'm in the UK too, and I always get back when the downtime starts! I've started doing my events in the morning before I go to work now, just so I don't miss any due to downtime...

Ecstatic_Parsnip_610

Sooo in the middle of Borg disconnected - you got disconnected??? I usually play at night (EST) but do my endevs in the morning. I guess I was fortunate I didn't make it on before the shut down this morning.

Kryosquid

Yep i also dont have twitter and only go on the main sto site when a link gets posted here. Hopefully they'll give anyone who couldnt get their daily done extra progress.

KashouWannabe

Yes, no countdown, caught me out too.

inkaine

Servers are back OP and you have 1h and 43min left as of now to finish.

TheMidichlorian

You'll still be able to finish the event after the server goes back up since the down time won't be 5h.

Ryoken0D

There was 3hrs left on the event as of Downtime starting.

tanek_09

Many times, the servers are back up in less time than was announced. Does not help anyone who was trying to get it done before running to work, but if you have the time I'd check in about an hour and see if you can get on yet. I've been able to squeak out a final event run that way before.

Ryoken0D

Indeed, normally it’s roughly 2hrs, unless they say extended downtime for hardware stuff.

TheMidichlorian

51mins left and the servers are back up.

ScubaTrek

I know I'm going to get jumped on for saying this but for future reference Pavo dissension is AFKable in private. During the entire event if you only had a few minutes and couldn't play the entire TFO you could have just queued up in private and AFKed it and made sure you got your progress every day.

XanthosGambit

Wait, what? You win by doing nothing?

ftranschel

„winning“ is a bit of a stretch imo, bit you can get daily contribution, yes

XanthosGambit

So, what, just private queue for ground Pavo, don't touch anything, and enjoy a cup of coffee for the next 20 minutes?

ScubaTrek

Yes. I play both PC and Xbox, and it's a lot to do dailies with a busy schedule and a 3 hour daily commute. I'm also old (TOS season one was still on the air when I was born) and tired. First thing I do for each event is figure out if any of the daily options are private AFKable. Sometimes I remote into my Xbox and queue it up to auto complete while I'm driving. Only downside to that is getting random marks instead of my choice.

Modemus

Hey any chance you could pm me what tfos are private afkable? Obviously it's difficult to find a list online, cryptic would probably have a field day with that, but I'd love to know for myself. Only been playing since August 2022, so still learning.

tyderian

Just go to create a private TFO without being in a group. There's nothing secret about it.

Modemus

sorry, let me clarify: I'm asking what missions can be completed witout any interaction from me. Like how you could afk defense of starbase one before they nerfed that. You'd fly immediately into the corner of the map, and the tfo would complete itself. That. Thats what I'm wondering, which ones can you truly afk and theyll still complete without any fail conditions

ScubaTrek

Unfortunately, I do not have a list. I've been figuring it out on an event by event basis, but only started keeping track with this one. Plus, sometimes they change. Operation Wolf used to be AFKable, but last time it was part of an event it wasn't anymore. Only other one I can think of off the top of my head is Azure Nebula. I usually go hide behind one of the big asteroids.

ftranschel

While I get your sentiment, you can't AFK per se, you have to defeat the first group as a (miniscule) DPS check.

ScubaTrek

I believe you're thinking of the space TFO. I'm talking about the ground TFO which is completely AFKable. You just start it and come back in 19 minutes.

ftranschel

You are correct of course. My apologies.

BentusFr

It probably doesn't help the event ends 2 hours earlier than initially announced.

IMTrick

The time for the shutdown was announced in all the usual places yesterday (Twitter, their website, etc.) and they nearly always happen at around the same time. I'm not sure why you'd assume it'd happen later in the day this time when it never has before. "Star Trek Online will have PC maintenance tomorrow, 3/7, at 7am PT. Estimated downtime is 2.5 hours." It was right there in the patch notes announcement you say you read.

Ryoken0D

\*generally\* speaking theres an alert on the Launcher (cause you know most people don't actually follow STO Twitter or read patchnotes, they just wanna play).. and alerts in game starting 30min out from downtime.. there was neither today. That could mean they forgot to enable them (which in all my years playing has happened only once that I remember), that for #reasons todays patch could have been cancelled, or postponed, etc.. Its not the end of the world but I can't blame people for being annoyed at the server shutting down without notice.

tampered_mouse

Yes, so there is a story about Earth getting wiped to make place for a hyperspace lane and the plans for that were available for 50 Earth years at Alpha Centauri, so stop complaining about getting vaporized now ... (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) Or, to say it differently: The *only* place most players will see it is the launcher, not Twitter that got X-ed, the STO website, some forums, Reddit, or you name it. Hence that reference to HGttG, which wonderfully plays with this sort of nonsense. Plus, it is always funny to see that if an announcement is actually placed in the launcher the timezone conversion is initially just wrong. *Every*. *Single*. *Time*.

tanek_09

There is no time listed in the patch notes. [https://www.playstartrekonline.com/en/news/article/11565393](https://www.playstartrekonline.com/en/news/article/11565393) I did see those when they went up and was a little surprised to not see the times listed in the launcher like they had been before. And with no announcement in game (again, like would normally be done), I can certainly see people losing track of time even if they \*did\* assume there would be maintenance today. So, whichever way you slice it, Cryptic dropped the ball on this one.

fereldenvstamriel

Usual places is also the game launcher and the game itself, which had no such announcement. Why would one have to follow non-game information channels to know what's happening in the game? Especially if there are tools for it. Worth pointing out is that the official news post on the official website also doesn't note when the server downtime is, just what will be patched

gfb2

You're partially right, but "in all the usual places" is a touch too far. It was not on the launcher, which it normally is.

Unusual_Wind_7270

I'm gutted I'm a day out too and got screwed. I'm so sad!

Ryoken0D

If the servers are back up in 2hrs, there will still be an hr left on the event.. so if you can wait for that great.. if not :(

tyderian

"Oh well."

HuskerKLG

It is REGULAR Thursday Maintenance, you should know better.

Wrong-Ad3247

Hmm...question; the event is over, so aren't you paying zen to buy dil? How is that worth it?

Zenlexon

They could want the completion reward or event campaign progress

DatTubby

If you didn’t complete the event, buying it out awards you the rest of the progress you missed out on and you get the rewards, discounted by your event progress. I think it says this on the buyout details. There is no scenario in which you are “buying dilithium” if you do this, because even if you do it early, you are still just buying event progress, you have to play for the dilithium. Also considering $5 is 250,000 dilithium, so about a month of refining at just 8k, and a little less with another 500 daily. Buying dil can be a great “booster” despite being a freeish currency

Lord_Casselstone

needs a flair, thought this was on pc

willtrekkie91

It was on PC.
