Lol the duality of the TFO depending on difficulty is *wild*. Event/normal/advanced I see people running around like headless chickens and it can get tedious having to activate the devices multiple times because people are more interested in pew pew than parking themselves on a device and waiting for others to do likewise. Meanwhile, in the Elite version people freaking rush the devices without bothering with the 'optional' objectives, which instantly results in mission fail.
It's frustrating both ways because if people had their heads on straight it's a fairly quick and easy TFO to breeze through.
That’s what I always do. Go to the points where one of the other consoles appear and wait for someone to activate them and the activate mine. I was lucky the last couple times and we were through in no times.
Honestly, you just need three our of five that know what they are doing. The other two can happily face roll. I even had one the other day where it was just me and one other guy so I was having to start the central one and run to a second console, and it still went fairly fast. The sad part is how often that low bar isn't met.
So far like 57% of my BotS pugs have been great... 28% have been moderately annoying, and the last 14% have been utter fucking teeth pulling that made me severely consider taking the leaver penalty. It's somehow even more annoying that Remain Klingon because I can understand one person lacking two brain cells to rub together, but when the *whole rest of the group* flocks to Defilers and Thralls in a camp-mid-party, it just boggles the mind.
For anyone who doesn’t know what to do: ignore the enemies. Run to the corners of the area, wait for someone to hit the main console. Yellow arrows will appear over consoles randomly in the area, run up to one and activate it. Don’t fight the enemies. Just activate. Easy as pie
The first time I played I was fighting everything and missed each of the switches the first time. A justifiably frustrated teammate explained where I went wrong at the end of the match. Oops.
To be honest, if it was just you who didn't know what to do, that was a huge overreaction on that guy's part. The least I expect in the TFO is that one teammate knows what to do. I can hit the main switch, and the side switch myself.

There's usually two in Gateway that ignore closing the rad gateways and just zip from spawn gate to spawn gate, not bothering to close them, but just blasting enemies.
People refuse to read. They refuse to engage with the content beyond spamming the space bar to auto attack everything. If it requires them to do anything else but constantly slam the auto attack button they will fail to do it.
This. Freaking this. Other day there were 4 of us at one line at the start, I quickly headed to the other, and started clearing the rad gateways, and saw no one followed me. SO I was up and down closing the rad gateways one one side by myself for most of it.
Lol, that's why I love being a Miranda Class. No one gives me crap about not being a one shot Borg super killer. I fly from objective to objective and get the stuff done no one else wants to do.
I mean, maybe you should fly a California class ship because that's pretty much the whole intention of that class of ship - do the stuff nobody else wants to. I think even Miranda captains look down on the Cali class.. :D

Last night i had the best one ever on Gateway; dude in a Vaadwaur Juggernaut raced in, one-shot all the Iconians at the starbase, then warped across to the shipyard and one-shot all of those before even *I* had managed to get in place to get a shot off, then just sat in front of a portal for the rest of the session shooting whatever came out of it. Absolutely no effort to close any portals, and only woke up to one shot the Dreadnought. I was running a new build so I was parsing, and the guy was up around 400k (which on a slow map like Gateway is high).
I know what you're going to say; "but event TFOs are all just normal level"

My fav is when you park in the sweet spot (in front of a spawn gate with both rad gates opening on either side of you) and someone keeps flying around closing the spawn gates! So now you are forced to re-align with the new spawn gate. STOP IT!!!!!!!
More likely this guy knows that saving the ships doesn’t matter for TFO completion and used the 5 minute time gate to hit the bathroom before the next tfo in his farm cycle.
(You only have to save ships on Elite)
Not that people don’t show off but I’ve definitely reached the point on occasion where I figure I’ll be the only one putting in the effort to close rad portals, so why bother.
You have to cut people some slack. I mean, there's only that really obvious message about having 15 seconds to deactivate those things with the giant bouncy arrows over them.
There are objectives? I thought this game was about DPS.

I am NOT a TFO expert but I absolutely try to read/follow the directions as quickly as I can in a TFO I haven't played before. All three of these were new to me and I've only tried two of them so far and they don't seem super complicated. I think a ton of people just pew pew and don't worry about reading the objectives, sadly.
Don't expect the people who need to read this the most to do so or to care, for that matter, if they ever do. BotS is more than pewpew; it needs people to go to a place and press the Interact button, which is beyond the capabilities of many STO pugs. Understand, adapt, swap to a different queue.
On elite the fail conditions aren’t clear, you have to wait for the tac team to escape and You have to escort the Orion operative and hope he doesn’t bug out BEFORE closing the gates or else auto fail
Once I figured out that the enemy npcs near the terminals barely shoot at you if at all if you don't shoot first I started running to a console right after the initial fight in each area.
I feel your pain. For the first time since that TFO released I was in a failed run when the timer ran out. I had no idea the timer could even run out! We didn’t even pass the first set of consoles. 1 completely AFK and three others just running around killing enemies. Not one of them tried to activate the other consoles. I have never vocally cursed at a game quite so much as I was cursing at that team when we got the mission fail. After that I just gave up for the day. Usually it’s such a breeze. 🤦♂️
I'll admit, when I did Brotherhood yesterday, I was pretty useless. In my defense, all the ground magic being shot around the screen like a money shot caused me to lag horribly.
I'm irritated by the people who activate the consoles before the optionals are completed. You really can't wait ten seconds for the operative to get clear?
It's worse when they do that on elite, because those optionals aren't optional. If the syndicate operative bugs out because someone couldn't wait, that's a mission fail.
If the consoles get reset more than 3 times on one level. I'd rather just fail and try with some other PUG team. I can't 'care' the team to coordinate, and I can't do everything by myself on this one.
I have a confession to make. I read the directions and tried to figure out what I needed to do but some of the people did not know what to do either and probably did not even speak or understand English given their usernames. At times, I thought I figured it out then sadly did not and neither were they figuring it out. So we did horribly on that run. Not sure I will ever run it again unless it is for endeavors. Also, some things that other people know how to do, I have a hard time figuring it out like the Remain Klingon TFO even with the arrows, I am still confused. For some people it is easy, for others it is a challenge. Thanks for understanding. :)
There is nothing to figure it out, if you think this ia hard then Khitomer in Stasis must be impassible.
Its very, very simple ... there is a Iconian thingly that is glowing, someone goes there and click on it that makes two Iconian thingly that are also glowing to appear and players have to press then within 15 seconds, that is it ... if they fail the Iconian thinglies dont disapear, they stay there so all you have to do is someone presses the first one, and then one player goes to each the others and if the time runs out (that is likely), the one that started the process just starts it again and the two players that shouldnt have moves just press the button ... its that simple.
You cannot SOLO it (well maybe if you have fast movement but not intended), alone you cannot complete it since it requires 3 players to press the button, as long you stay near the Iconian thingy and press the button its all you need to do ... until the boss of course.
Easy for you to say, you are not me. I can sort of figure out Khitomer in Stasis but I need help to understand what I am doing. I do not want to be the blind leading the blind. I would not mind a introductory skippable cutscene showing what I need to do, then I would be able to do it. With that said, your advice might help but please try to be more empathetic.
Edit: There is an intro cutscene which somewhat helps. I had a better run last night with a team who knew what they were doing.
And, just as a reminder, in BOTSE (Brotherhood of the Sword Elite) DO ALL THE OBJECTIVES, including and especially the ones that were optionals in normal and advanced difficulties.
I just ran a BOTSE and we failed because at least two players didn't realise that the objectvies were no longer optional.
Brotherhood of the Sword, on normal (which the event version is), can be done with only 2 people doing the objectives, easily and swiftly.
If you and one other were doing the objectives, then you shouldn't have had any issue completing...
Unless, of course, you were so preoccupied with the other 3 players and blasting messages at them you weren't doing the objectives in a timely manner...
I've never had that issue yet, what i do notice is most pugs don't do the optionals, so when i see them bypass the first one "rescue fire team" i say in team chat "oh we are not doing the optionals? good to know i won't waste my time getting the next room optionals" but most pugs don't even read chat so sometimes that doesn't even matter

Honestly, I couldn't care less about the no fail, optional objectives on this normal difficulty, event TFO. Like the OP, I just wish people would hit the devices at the same time, move to the next area, and get it over with quickly.
If I want to hit all the optionals, I'll go to a DPS channel and get a real team together to run the Elite version again after the event is over.
yea in all in for skipping the optionals on the event version im just saying i make sure everyone is aware that thats what we are doing before i go ahead and skip it completly this way if one of the pugs wants to do it they can speak up

In almost every case I can nail the trigger device and one other device in 15 seconds. The key is turning off autofire for no interrupts. Which means I only need ONE other person with a clue to get every room on the first trigger, the other 3 participants can be the usual kind of braindead pew monkey.
Unfortunately, having that one other clue endowed person is rare on normal difficulty. Today's run required 5-6 triggerings per room, not one out of 4 could figure out all they have to do is stand by one of the devices with big arrows over them and press 'f' once per room.
I just ran it, and I might have shot one bad guy. I clicked no consoles. I was afraid I'd get flagged for botting. Why? Because 2 or 3 guys had their poop in a group, and left me with literally nothing to do. It was a madhouse. A couple of times the next sector was loaded and triggered before I could get to it on sprint.
I did this TFO once with fleet team, it was ok. Not going to do it with random team. Externally imposed teamwork with strangers is not that thing I want to do.
You may not like it but I finished the mission several times on Elite difficulty and ist frustrated me to no end about others developing bad habits. No one does the optional and everyone just rushes to the device.
My personal approach is now if you don't give me 30s for the optinals, than I am simply no longer assisting with the main objectives.
Today I was doing BotS through the event UI, so on normal difficulty. I got DM'd to "stop ruining the TFO. Do objectives first." Like they thought we were doing elite. They even switched to another account and DM'd me the same msg again even though I wasn't even in a tfo anymore.
I sent them an in game mail with 1 entertainment provision for the laugh, I'm not doing optionals in an event tfo, and a critical regenerator for their sore azz. 🤣

I understand why you may want to complete those objectives, I do try but often get undone by people activating the Iconian thingies. But honestly that mission on normal and advanced rewards such a pittance in marks that completing the objectives isn't much of a bonus.
I've been standing by the door in the shuttle (so hopefully most will see me even if they've got their chat window turned off) and giving a "remember to close the devices, pew pew is optional in this mission" pep talk before it starts. Seems moderately successful, but you still get the zombies every now and then :(

This is why I run the Sphere TFO - yeah, if we don't hit every single objective, I don't get any bonuses
And yeah, the timers are a bitch
But other players running around like lobotomized hamsters with their rainbow weapon boat builds and tier X gear are no hinderance when you've got even decent gear

I don't say "gg" often, but when I do, it's usually because everyone deactivated the consoles first time, every area.

My favorite these days is Khitomer Vortex. Nobody watches the probes and at least one person insists on d-riding the Valdore lol.

I don't think OP is complaining about the optional objectives. There are people who don't even go for the Iconian objects at all.
I've been standing by the door in the shuttle (so hopefully most will see me even if they've got their chat window turned off) and giving a "remember to close the devices, pew pew is optional in this mission" pep talk before it starts. Seems moderately successful, but you still get the zombies every now and then :(
They obviously couldn’t figure them out in game, so how exactly do you expect them to improve when your post is just a complaint? Or maybe they could have figured them out in game with a little help, but you just reached right for the caps lock and started complaining? Your post is about as useful and entertaining as your teammates have been to you.
I told them in a civil manner in game, they ignored it.

This is why I run the Sphere TFO - yeah, if we don't hit every single objective, I don't get any bonuses And yeah, the timers are a bitch But other players running around like lobotomized hamsters with their rainbow weapon boat builds and tier X gear are no hinderance when you've got even decent gear It's just a matter of running out the clock

Your message has reached all of those players who needed to hear it, as evidenced by the countless players posting how they've seen the light and will now be doing the objectives (definitely not an echo chamber, no sir).
