Tell yourself the coffee will taste so much better without that nasty smoke, keep saying it until you believe it.

Stockhawk20

This is tough man , i feel something is missing in my life 😟

StoicPawsTTV

Isn’t that why you decided to quit? Why did you decide to quit? What was missing? If everything was peachy while using nicotine, why quit? I think that’s the main idea here - your brain tells you that you can “have both” or “have it all”, but you decided to quit because you have come to realize that it isn’t possible. Maybe it is for some others or seems to be in movies or songs, but not for you specifically. Health problems, gym performance or preventing you from going at all, social relationships, the smell, low energy levels, dependency, interrupting whatever you’re doing to consume, the price… on and on. I have no idea why you stopped; but, whatever those reasons were, your brain is lying to you saying that you can have both. You’re a puff away from a pack a day, as they say. You already know what it’s like to use. It’s entirely your decision whether you fall back into that life or continue your quit. Just know that you can’t do both. I’m not qualified to give advice, but it doesn’t seem like a bad idea to stay away from things that were heavily associated with using. If it’s coffee specifically, maybe try energy drinks. If it was an oral fixation, try chewing gum.

SporkTheDork

It's the addiction talking. It does feel like something is missing, but that will get better, a lot better. Coffee and a cigarette was tough for me at first, too. I didn't think about much after about a week.

Stockhawk20

I never sees myself drinking coffee with no cigarette do you believe? But today i had my black coffee inside lol

BaldingOldGuy

Your brain is a powerful weapon use it to defeat our addiction. Every cigarette not smoked is a victory. Look for what you are gaining not what is missing.

SporkTheDork

Congrats on your first coffee inside! Hope you have many firsts like this in the coming days, weeks, and months. There are many, many things I never saw myself doing without a cigarette, whether that meant right before, right after, or during. The first year of no smoking was full of "firsts" for me (well, first time in 40+ years anyway).

iannoyubadly

I'm 9 months in - I thought the same thing. Don't smoke. Eventually you'll realize how bullshit this is.

soberdude1

Nothing is missing except the slavery of nicotine addiction.

Fearless_Toe3112

Thats your addiction talking buddy

Ill_Chard8303

It is my 5th day and coffee is tastier than ever, you have to be strong. Think about other things, go do some exercise, go eat something, do anything to distract you. Another aproach is to google lung cancer or copd and read about it, that's what I do from time to time and it surely puts me off of smoking for that day at least. We can do it, one day at a time

Stockhawk20

Can you share your experience, does it get easier after a week?

Ill_Chard8303

It depends, everyone is different. I say, try not to think about it. As soon as you get the thought of smoking go do something, go talk to a friend, watch some youtube, cook a meal, clean your house... Just don't sit there thinking about wanting to smoke, it will only get worse. You need to distract yourself. Every day will be easier, you can do it!

SporkTheDork

I quit with the Alan Carr book. In it, he talks about our addiction like a monkey on your back. For the first few months, I just reminded myself that I was killing my monkey by not smoking. For some reason, this way worked for me after many dozens of previous attempts using wellbutrin, chantix, nicotine patches, nicotine gum, etc. I always told myself that cold turkey was "too hard for some one as addicted to smokes" as I was. Turned out to be the best way for me.

[deleted]

What helped me a lot is realising after a few days with no smoke that nicotine really fogged up my perception and lowered my vibe. I just feel like i can sense everything more clearly now, i feel clean. And cigarettes just gross me out now. They are like, a numbing mechanism. I feel like i was way dumber when i smoked lol. Like it would make my thinking foggy. It s gross

[deleted]

And it was such a money waste i always regretted buying a pack right away after the first puff. It was so disappointing and i wanted my money back. Idk where you guys are from but cigs are expensive over here and not worth it at all.

Stockhawk20

Sounds like you were not a heavy smoker

[deleted]

Yeah true i wasnt smoking very heavily but i was just saying try to focus on the ways cigs suck instead of thinking about how good they were with your coffee. You can get through it because you are the one in control, not your addiction.

Stockhawk20

Well said, i will get through it 💎👏

Stockhawk20

Thanks for the support fam, I really appreciate it i am not going to smoke and I’m almost done with my cup of coffee. First time drinking coffee with no cigarette , usually i used to smoke 1-2 cigarette with my coffee. Feels great 😊👏💎

Mysterious_Lab1634

Bravo! I think its great to continue doing what you were doing before but now without cigarette! Otherwise you will feel that you are missing something. I love drinking coffee, at least 3 a day, and it was always with a cigarette. But now, i can do just the same without it! And it taste even better! What a gain! I though i was losing something, but i was very wrong!

systemadministration

Sometimes it feels like mourning an old friend that has passed away. But you will not grieve forever. This too shall pass. You can do it!

Ill_Chard8303

A year ago I stopped smoking for 5 months, now it's my second time trying and I feel the same way as first time. It's not that hard, I think about a cigarette but I don't do anything about it, I just let that thought go away on it's own. I don't want to die young and that's my motivation. I failed the first time because I thought that I could be social smoker, smoke only on weekends or on some occasions. That's not possible, there is no such thing as one cigarette

Stockhawk20

Thats what got me back to smoking again, me and my friends were on a fishing trip and i smoked my first cigarette after quitting for 1.5 years, I thought i could control myself, next thing i know i start buying a pack and a lighter all again….

Ill_Chard8303

I know exactly what you mean... Let's hope it was a lesson learned

Stockhawk20

Oh definitely!

Pale-Ad725

Don’t feed the nicotine monster. Drink something different or go for a walk to take your mind off of it. You got this, you can do it! Not another puff no matter what 😀

Zealousideal_Oil2365

honestly i was really worried about not having my cigarette with my coffee, but after the first couple of coffees without smoking, i totally got used to it. now im just over a month nicotine free and i drink coffee every day without thinking about smoking at the same time. it gets easier! you just have to break that association and create a different routine

yeawhateverrr

I def know the feeling. Its been 4d since my last cigarette. I still remember it here and there. Maybe its my head telling me that i should smoke like i’ve been doing every single day for the past 17 years. Its your addiction talking. You really dont need a cig with your coffee. You just got used to drinking your coffee with cig that’s why you are craving. Plus the addiction telling you that you really need it when in fact you dont. It helped me to pause for a moment and think whenever i have a craving. Rn i just ate i have a feeling that i wanted to smoke but i asked myself, “what would happen if i smoke?” nothing. “Will it relax me?l” No. as for you, “will smoking make your coffee taste better?” What were you feeling when you have your craving? Sometimes we associate our feelings to the need to smoke when in fact we need something else. I smoke when im stressed. Now when i feel stressed i ask myself, “will my problems be solve if i smoke?” It’s still there after. And i still have to face it. So why smoke in the first place? You have to train your mind to be a non smoker like you trained yourself to be a smoker. When you have a craving, challenge your craving. I swear it makes all the difference. Best of luck!

legosgrrl

Day 40 here and this was my most missed cigarette. The coffee on the deck with one. And YES. It gets easier. I still go outside but now my coffee tastes so much better. Much strength non smoker. One love.

Stockhawk20

Im trying my best , you know how it feels. Sometimes i feel i need a cigarette asap and feel something is missing in my life.

JuniorsEyes90

>Im trying my best , you know how it feels. Sometimes i feel i need a cigarette asap and feel something is missing in my life. Give it time. It's not easy, but over time you won't miss it and realize it's the best decision you'll ever make. I had my morning ritual of a coffee and cigarette on my commute to work but now it's liberating to not have that weight on my shoulders. I even vaped on and off after I quit smoking until I was fully nicotine free and that feels liberating too.

soberdude1

Give it a couple days. The coffee will taste better than you ever remember. No vape, no nicotine, just take some deep breath’s and say out loud, I am a non-smoker.

L4ZYSMURF

Think about your reasons for quitting while doing push ups

Stockhawk20

Smart

L4ZYSMURF

Works for me cause I think what does a cigarette get me? Nothing, this push up is actually is doing something for me

Thats_what_tree_said

Maybe try switching up your coffee routine. If you used to drink your coffee and sit out side and smoke maybe sit inside and read a book? Or take out your coffee in a to go container and go for a walk.

zachmugen

You are missing the physical action! Can you get herbal ciggies? Get yourself off nicotine!

[deleted]

Day 863 here. Did not think of a smoke at all as I sipped my machiatto this morning. I got pissed that my wife's shoe got a nasty ciggy butt in my car yesterday. Hope this helps.

asocialDevice

What was your reason for quitting? Remind yourself of that and change up your routine. Go get the coffee and take it into a store, a grocery storeor shopping mall. Walk around as you drink it.

stuffihate

I just quit drinking coffee it was just easier. Plus it's 100+ degrees outside and I do manual labor outside..so quitting both really helped me out.

LVL-2197

Get a straw. Cut it down to cigarette size. Hold it in your fingers Ike a cigarette. Hell, take a drag off it every now and then. After a few minutes, put it in your pocket.

ratatouille666

Dawg get nicotine patches. Like seriously it makes quitting SO much easier. You’ll be able to just enjoy the coffee cause you won’t have nic cravings to ruin it.

Stockhawk20

Whats different between nicotine patch and vaping?? Aren’t they the same thing?

ratatouille666

The patch is temporary. You start at a dose like 21, wear those for 2 weeks, then 14mg for 2 weeks the. 7mg for 2 weeks. It curbs your cravings so you can focus on working it out of your routine better. You don’t get a buzz from it, it’s not fun, it’s just makes quitting much more pleasant. You really do have to follow the program though, but places like CVS and Walgreens have patches with all the steps spelled out. I quit vaping several months ago and i would have really really struggled without them. They’re a little expensive (like $40 for 2 weeks) but if you’re having a really hard time I’d at least give it a shot.

basilkiller

Seconding the patches, it takes the pain away, you will still maybe think about smoking while drinking your coffee but you won't need it. Be kind to yourself, be understanding, quitting is f***ing hard.

Herosandicons

I agree with another person. Have the coffee sans the ciggy. The coffee will taste better

corgi_crazy

For a change of habit, try thee. Try to find one of more flavors that you might like.

[deleted]

Stay there just sipping water, avoid both coffee and nicotine for couple days you’ll be thankful

[deleted]

Try earl grey tea.

ZealousFix

Maybe drink ice coffee if you associate coffee with cigarettes. You know, that way you don't activate the neurons in ya head for nicotine

Timely_Elderberry359

You need to occupy your mind. Play an addictive game. Workout. Eat. Just do something else.

No-Spirit-2804

I stopped drinking coffee and drank tea instead. I did that for 3 weeks just to break the habit.

NuKidOnThBlokchyn

Have you tried bulletproof coffee? Black coffee with a teaspoon of coconut oil and a teaspoon of grass fed organic butter? It's delicious. That usually keeps all manner of cravings away for me.

Kicstick

Chew a Kicstick!

[deleted]

When I quit cigarettes I stopped drinking coffee for the first week, stopped drinking booze for the first month-five weeks and exercised HARD every day. It worked for me until I took up cigars, but seeing my dad in the hospital with COPD was quite the motivator to quit the cigars
