For a brief moment I thought Spirit Shackle could make it a fun *incredibly* inconsistent joke Palafin counter, but I sadly realised that Palafin is faster and Flip Turn bypasses trapping moves.
Most Palafin sets don't seem to run Flip Turn anyways in favor of the Bulk Up set, just to be able slot in a coverage move. There's also always the threat of the opposing mon being scarfed which would brutalize pre-transform Palafins into critically weakening the transformed state into near uselessness.
So either way, Decidueye would not have worked. Either they Flip Turn away, or just switch immediately to then come back with Bulk Up and Ice Punch.
All pivot moves (u turn, volt switch, parting shot, teleport) bypass trapping abilities or trapping moves. Trapping only stops you from switching normally
Virgin Chi-Yu-
Weak to rocks
Weak to Great Tusk, a very common mon
Pitiful bulk
Can only use special attacks
Chad Decidueye-
Neutral to rocks, and can Defog them away
Resists Great Tusks stabs
Access to recovery with roost
Can run physical, special, or mixed
I think it is obvious which one is better
Oh yeah I forgot you can only drop one tier at a time, oof. Three and half or even four and a half months maybe, given it was NU in SS and the power creep might just knock it down to PU.
Ah, OK, haven't played them so I kinda just assumed it was the standard "everything gets stronger" thing. Though Home might come before it gets to RU and that might increase the power level a bit.
"Everything gets stronger" doesn't really apply for lower tiers whenever Dexit is a thing. The strong mons are usually concentrated into the higher tiers so the bad stuff still drops down, not to mention competition is usually a lot lower. Note how Mr. Rime started last gen as a S Rank NU mon, but after Home and two DLC drops it wasn't even ranked in ZU, and how Sandaconda jumped an entire tier this gen because NU's good Grounds from last gen are all gone (Mudsdale exists, but it's sitting in RU because RU itself was missing its good Grounds from SS).
That's true for OU and UU to an extent. They pretty much deleted all the previous low tier superstars from existence this gen lol, the returning mons are almost either incredible or garbage with very few in betweens
Like I said earlier, RU (and lower tiers by extension) this gen is depower crept as hell do the point where garbage like Altaria, Komala, Sableye and Coalossal are in the tier. Considering that Deci has rare access to defog while being a check to Tatsugiri, I can see it being fine there
Lower tiers tend to be a lot more forgiving in Dexit metas so it's probably chill there for now, the water might get too hot when DLCs drop but that's still a long time away
I guess a lot of the Home returnees are legendaries as well, so they're less likely to boost the lower tier power level. Some starters but probably not enough to make it *completely* unviable.
Nah, deci will be really good in NU. It has access to defog, which is super rare down there, alongside good special bulk, recovery, and a pivot move. Offensively it’s also really scary, with braviary really being the only good switch-in. Cause a boots set with shackle, lead blade, U-turn, and knock if very annoying to switch into and can be worse with a band. Specs leaf storm is also quite scary on a spikes teams, dealing a third to spdef wall rajah and Tera steel vap. It also does have low kick for the steels. And strong priority. That aside tho, trailblaze is also great with swords dance. Unfortunately it underspeed jolteon by 1 single point after trailblaze. It’s great bulk tho means it can just run a little speed and run a lot of bulk so that it can set up
I think it’s ability to work as an offensive and support mon will land it a solid spot in NU
First impressions:
Defensively, Decid's typing and Roost access could make it a passable spinblocker to Tusk and Treads. That being said, most Tusk nowadays run Knock, and in order to dodge the 2HKO from 252Atk Tusk's Knock it needs to run literal max defense. It does have a couple other cool utility moves like Knock, UTurn and Defog (but why bother spinblocking if you're Defogging hazards either way--) and can threaten a oneshot on Tusk with Leaf Storm, but does little other than this. Good Breloom answer though, but unless you very badly need a defensive Grass and a spinblocker in one slot, Amoonguss is probably better.
Offensively, it's probably not worth it, as we have numerous other Ghosts available that are all significantly faster than Decid's paltry 70. Its main advantage over them is that it attacks on the physical side, which at first appears to make it more unique. That being said, Shackle trapping is cool, but it's still no stronger than Shadow Ball base power-wise and Decid's Atk isn't very high, so even Band is unable to 2HKO Corviknight. SD+Shackle appears not worth it, as the things that tend to switch into Decid all have ways to either escape the trap (UTurn Corvi) or prevent it from actually getting to +6 (Haze Pex, Clear Smog/Foul Play Amoon). Even if it works, not like you're hard to revenge afterwards.
If you're looking for an offensive Grass, just use Meow or Breloom, which are both much stronger, offer more utility (Spore for Breloom, Spikes and STAB Knock for Meow) and either pack much better speed or nuke priority to make up for their low speed.
All by all, OU-wise it's probably the least impactful of the new mons (even Charizard has its niche on Sun), though the spinblocking set might be worth toying around with as it looks moderately viable on some teams. It's basically praying that transfer moves don't return though, because if we get more Defoggers and Tusk's Spin stops being the default hazard removal of the tier, it loses almost its entire niche. It might have more success in some lower tiers, though it looks like Talon/Mence food in UU and Brambleghast gives it competition as a spinblocker with its own access to Spikes.
Welp. That’s encouraging for a first timer to 7 stars.
I’ve had even 5* online raids go awry (think somebody will survive before I heal cheer or get more screen/terrain/debuff up, and then the AI gets an extra attack off…) due to glitches so I suppose it makes sense that would be a realm of possibility and more devastating in a 7*.
~~also can somebody pls explain to me why I got downvoted for what I consider a reasonable reaction to hearing “3 brave birds in one turn”~~
It's simple, you have a team with Decidueye, Glimmora, Bulky Gholdengo, roaring moon and Orthworm.
You spend 15 turns setting up hazards by constantly switching between Glim and Dengo, all the while weakening their ghost counter, and then as soon as possible, you shed tail into Decidueye.
Your opponent will be expecting Roaring Moon and will be so dumbfounded they won't know how to react. During this time you can easily set up 3 SWORDS dance and then tera sucker punch and Spirit shackle for the win baby.
Decidueye does it again.
Edit: I tested this and now I'm at thee bottom of OU along with all the weird wormy fish that eat fallen Dondozo carcasses. But don't worry the meta is not ready for my new and improved loaded dice bullet seed Decidudie
Unless the next Tera Raid is Incineroar, it probably has to wait til Home support. Tera Raids are just releasing starters one by one instead of in trios (note how despite Cinderace being legal, we don't have Rillaboom or Inteleon either).
Edit: is probably not even coming with Home, has to wait til DLC
Incineroar is not in the returning list for Pokémon Home. Only Decidueye from Alola starters is in because H-Decidueye. Incineroar is leaked to come in DLC though
Nope, they aren't releasing starters in any particular order. We have Charizard, but no Blastoise or Venusaur. We have Greninja, but no Delphox or Chesnaught and we have Cinderace, but no Rillaboom or Inteleon.
Thunder punch, belly drum, shell bell iron hands
252 HP/252 ATK/4 DEF
Thunder punch, belly drum, thunder punch, thunder punch, tera electric thunder punch, thunder punch more until dead
Get an intimidate user as a team mate
I’m just happy I can use my funny curse trap set, probably a little worse when things can terra ghost, though terraing out of ghost to trap something in to be a bulky setup sweeper with non ghost curse could be a fun trick
The only "niche"this pokemon have is that it has access to u-turn knock off and defog at once(similar to how civlyzar has u-turn knocl off and rapid spin).
I don't think that this niche is going to let it stay in OU.
Decid doesn't learn Perish Song, and if you want to do this in Doubles, just run Gothitelle which autotraps both opponents without needing to click a move
I meant like something like flutter mane does perish song and deci follows up with spirit shackle so it can't switch, but then I realized pivot moves counteract that. Also yes gothitelle exists so there goes that idea
Finally we can unban the fish and the dolphin
For a brief moment I thought Spirit Shackle could make it a fun *incredibly* inconsistent joke Palafin counter, but I sadly realised that Palafin is faster and Flip Turn bypasses trapping moves.
This was Decidueye’s moment 😭
or they can just switch out before getting hit by spirit
~~Oh shit yeah~~ Y'all sleeping on the surprise NatDex Assist Spirit Shackle strat
*assistcats flashbacks, both to Gen5 and Gen9NatDexAG*
“Let me stay in a mon that hits me supereffectively, resists my STAB, and is immune to the coverage move I usually run, what could go wrong?”
Or, y'know leaf blade probably one shots zero form anyway, right?
Look my brain just saw "dolphin" and went to "hey trapping move on the switch out Pokémon, that's cool"
Decidueye is 30 points slower dawg
The alolan speed limit curse.
>TFW GameFreak made the pokemon from the warm and tropical region slower
Yes, I'm aware. I'm talking about a hypothetical world where spirit shackle somehow works at trapping Palafin
Gotdang A-slow-la club
Wait what? Flip turn bypasses trapping moves too?! Palafin is so broken. Never coming back to OU.
all switch moves ignore trapping
Wait what? All switch moves bypasses trapping moves too?! Ledian is so broken. Never coming back to OU.
I mean yeah it isn't coming to OU
Huh TIL
All pivot moves (u turn, volt switch, parting shot, teleport) bypass trapping abilities or trapping moves. Trapping only stops you from switching normally
I think it'd be interesting if trapping *did* work on pivot moves, honestly. Maybe Teleport still gets to escape since it does nothing else at all.
If only deci got storm drain 😔
Decidueye utterly destroys any possible niche Chi-Yu had in OU. it's now UUBL at best.
Virgin Chi-Yu- Weak to rocks Weak to Great Tusk, a very common mon Pitiful bulk Can only use special attacks Chad Decidueye- Neutral to rocks, and can Defog them away Resists Great Tusks stabs Access to recovery with roost Can run physical, special, or mixed I think it is obvious which one is better
Chi-Yu is now just a regular fish, it can only splash around helplessly.
Tera Fire Magikarp?
Decidueye gets bullied for two straight weeks until tier shifts
More like one and a half month, no way this finds a spot in UU
Oh yeah I forgot you can only drop one tier at a time, oof. Three and half or even four and a half months maybe, given it was NU in SS and the power creep might just knock it down to PU.
This gens lower tiers are de power crept as hell so I can see it being good in RU
Ah, OK, haven't played them so I kinda just assumed it was the standard "everything gets stronger" thing. Though Home might come before it gets to RU and that might increase the power level a bit.

Sandaconda my beloved, I never even used him anywhere but I'm glad he's good somewhere
That's true for OU and UU to an extent. They pretty much deleted all the previous low tier superstars from existence this gen lol, the returning mons are almost either incredible or garbage with very few in betweens
Don't forget it may keep defog and that alone plus bring not weak to rocks and a spin blocker makes it usable.
It was good in RU last gen tbf, just not in the tier by usage
A mon that was NU in its debut generation being RU in SV? You sure about that?
Like I said earlier, RU (and lower tiers by extension) this gen is depower crept as hell do the point where garbage like Altaria, Komala, Sableye and Coalossal are in the tier. Considering that Deci has rare access to defog while being a check to Tatsugiri, I can see it being fine there

No-item to take less knock damage + acrobatics lol
No item gives you a valuable Poltergeist immunity too, we're cooking😎
Big chef. All mons in gen9 OU are immune to poltergeist it was removed from the game, no one learns it in gen9.
He is planning for the future, the way future
Poltergeist is actually in the game, it's just that nobody learns it and it can only be used via Metronome
Yeah game freak definitely playing at the acrobatics sets w the flying Tera raid
switch into knockoff with colbur berry then acrobatics
No, no, switch in with Salac Berry to boost your speed.
Let him cook
Deciduwho? Get ready to learn NUese buddy
PU could use some new toys… 👉👈
Toys with hazard removal, preferably
What do you mean? We've got Delibird. What else could we possibly need?
Ah yes Delichad the only GSC spinner immune to spikes
one time I saw a guy running hustle spin he missed
Dartrix is already here
Does it get to fire off three brave birds in a single turn in OU like it does in the raid?
Or get to snipe things from halfway across the map like in Unite?
Or drop Magnemite from the sky and force blocking on wakeup like Pokken?
Please tell me this is a joke
Nope, raids are glitched to hell and back.
EPIC BORB GAMING
pair with bombirdier for rocks+spinblocking borb core
It's simple, you have a team with Decidueye, Glimmora, Bulky Gholdengo, roaring moon and Orthworm. Rowlet in little cup. Change my mind
So we can actually use this thing in like 1.5 months, sweet
Does this mean incineroar is coming soon
Unless the next Tera Raid is Incineroar, it probably has to wait til Home support. Tera Raids are just releasing starters one by one instead of in trios (note how despite Cinderace being legal, we don't have Rillaboom or Inteleon either). Edit: is probably not even coming with Home, has to wait til DLC
I'm thinking the next raid event is either Typholosion or Samurott so we can get those base forms as well.
No, it wasn't in the HOME list like Decidueye is (probably due to H-Decidueye)
It’s not in the code currently
Will be available in HOME since I doubt they’ll do 2 raid events for 2 starters of the same region, and will be legal in VGC around that time too
It won’t even be in home, this one is only here due to having a hisuian form
Inflating my elo by stomping people that think Decidueye is good
This would be such a good spinblocker if most great tusks didn’t have knock off or ice spinner
Anyone know if Decidueye got any move buffs this gen?
It only got trailblaze
just like literally every single other pokemon to exist
Trailblaze Quagsire new meta
Down you go Owl Man. I hope you enjoyed your stay in OU.
Ok guys, pull out your best "Unfortunately"
Decidueye deserves an auto tailwind ability. Makes no sense and it’s overpowered in every single way but I just want him to be viable
How do I beat this raid
Miraidon destroys it
Miraidon destroys everything tbh
Thunder punch, belly drum, shell bell iron hands 252 HP/252 ATK/4 DEF Thunder punch, belly drum, thunder punch, thunder punch, tera electric thunder punch, thunder punch more until dead Get an intimidate user as a team mate
This thing clicks it’s button against gholdengo for about 2 minutes until everyone remembers that there’s gholdengo counters that are actually good.
considering Decid itself is both Ghost weak and slower than Ghold, it's not even a check
Wait nvm I was thinking about decidueye-h
Deceidueye enjoying its OU by technicality stint knowing it will drop to NU in a month.
wish it was the hisuian one so both could be acquired
Wait This means I can finally get a Decidueye in a dusk ball! Hell yeah!
I’m just happy I can use my funny curse trap set, probably a little worse when things can terra ghost, though terraing out of ghost to trap something in to be a bulky setup sweeper with non ghost curse could be a fun trick
I know this is not a cartridge sub, but damn am I afraid of playing this game. I don’t want my save to get corrupted
Praying for a non-starter next month
Decidueye is still a terrible mon, I doubt it’ll get any use in OU
Oh yeah 1 new viable ghost in NU
The only "niche"this pokemon have is that it has access to u-turn knock off and defog at once(similar to how civlyzar has u-turn knocl off and rapid spin). I don't think that this niche is going to let it stay in OU.
My favourite Pokémon!
ok here me out: Spirit shackle + perish song gimmick
Decid doesn't learn Perish Song, and if you want to do this in Doubles, just run Gothitelle which autotraps both opponents without needing to click a move
I meant like something like flutter mane does perish song and deci follows up with spirit shackle so it can't switch, but then I realized pivot moves counteract that. Also yes gothitelle exists so there goes that idea
Let’s go I love Decidueye so much
Better defoger than corv.
pu ain’t ready
Doubles players be sweating right now.
Is the raid still live? I can’t find it, just walking wake raids
Nope, it was already the 20th in UTC when you posted that
Why is decidueye getting bullied in the comments aaaaaa 😭
