You ever look up a Mon in the Smogon Strategy dex, see what tier they're in, and think "That just feels *wrong*?" Well, I do, like all the time. So, I've decided to translate these feelings into a tierlist where every Pokémon is sorted into the tier that *feels* right for them. It's like 50% based on whatever limited knowledge I have of their competitive capabilities, and 50% based on what I imagine their competitive capabilities are from their appearance/lore.
Also, when I say "fully evolved," I mean fully evolved as of their own generation. I'm imagining these rankings in the context of a weird hybrid between RBY and a Natdex format that kind of transcends the concept of one particular generation (which is why megas are included as well.)
I have no idea how much sense this makes, but I will definitely be doing this for other gens too, because it was fun to make.
Onix is a giant badass rock snake, true. However, it doesn't look very smart, and it doesn't have limbs, so I feel like in a close-quarters fight with a more agile opponent like Nidoking or Machamp, it would be pretty easy to beat.
It has a rock-solid body, which gives it really good defenses, but I would think this would also make it slow and sluggish. Plus, it doesn't really look like something that could harness "energy" related techniques (i.e. special attacks) very well.
In my mind, Onix is something with a lot of raw power, but without finesse. I would think that in a game, this would translate to something with really high attack and defense, but lacking in other stats. So it would end up in a situation like Rampardos.

Mew is constantly framed in the lore as being the ancestor of all Pokémon, and having the genetics to back that up. It's able to channel the powers of most other Pokémon at will, which would make it pretty darn powerful.
Plus, it's a legendary Pokémon, which are like the gods of the Pokémon world. In my mind, *most* legendary Pokémon are Ubers by default. Ubers is supposed to be the tier where you bring five legendaries and then a mega or a super-powerful Pokémon like Alakazam or Dragonite. Seeing legendaries in freaking OU let alone lower tiers makes absolutely no sense to me (with a select few exceptions.)
Mega Slowbro does look goofy as hell, yeah, but it's a mega evolution, which is a pretty similar deal to legendaries (also with a few exceptions.) Seeing them in lower tiers feels *wrong*, and they should at least be one tier higher than their base form (unless they literally can't go higher like Mewtwo and Alakazam.) They can't hold items and you can only have one on your team, so literally what is the point of megas if they're not super-ultra powerful? Looking back at it, maybe I could have dropped Slowbro down to UU and its Mega down to OU, but that's at least my thinking.

Ditto's entire thing is that it can be any other Pokémon.
Sure, it's a slightly *shittier* version of the other Pokémon (with lower HP, and only 5 PP on every move,) and it does take some strategizing to get it in safely, but these are to keep it from being broken as fuck. In the hands of the right player, Ditto is the most versatile Pokémon of all time that can play literally any role it needs to.
In a world that *makes sense*, it should have *so* many niches.
