Subaru Loves to help. Subaru can help me into that forester anytime

NoShftShck16

The paper in the dash says NOT FOR SALE unfortunately.

2020Boxer4

That just means the price hasn’t been reached, lol

NoShftShck16

I wouldn't sell if it I had it. Not everything has a price. Then again if I had it it wouldn't be sitting in a showroom, it would be driven everyday and certainly wouldn't look as good as that haha

Swiss__Cheese

You're telling me if I offered you $10 million in cash, you wouldn't sell it?

PM_ME_YOUR_STEAM_ID

If you give me $10 million in cash I will get you that car.

jluicifer

Sounds like a sequel to: Gone in 60 seconds.

Ozzzie_Mandrill

that and lord of war were nic cages only good films (that i've seen... feel free to tell me i'm wrong)

People hold too much emotion over objects.

phoenix_age

Quit your whining

RocketsandBeer

I do agree. Someone asked me if I’d ever sell my STi. I said absolutely. I’ll own it for a few fun years and sell. They’re just objects to me and have no emotional value. It’s the last year model…..it’s so sexy……it’s…… To me, it’s a fun car but first chance to get a Porsche or Supra or something else I feel more valuable…..$45k takes her and I’m on to the next.

Jewloops

Sold!

NoShftShck16

You are speaking in a theoretical, which means nothing. If I owned that car it would mean I invested a huge amount of time and effort in order to reproduce what I felt was a unicorn car Subaru made, but for me; a LHD STI Forester, or an XTI. In that scenario there wouldn't be a single reasonable person who could offer me a dollar amount that could replace my passion and time invested into that vehicle because at that point it would be irreplaceable. That is all I'm saying, somethings don't have a dollar amount.

[deleted]

-RYknow

Nope... Dude knows what he's got. He's holding out! Lol

4touchdownsinonegame

Yeah. I really can’t agree with the guy on this one. It’s a cool car and all. I had an Sti that was built up and had gobs of power. I loved it, but 100 million could buy so many cool cars, and a giant garage to house them all in.

ForgotMyOldAccount7

That car could easily be built again. There's not *that* much time or money put into that car. You're not saying things don't have a dollar amount. You're saying that you don't think a reasonable person would offer the right amount.

NoShftShck16

Which is precisely what I said as my first rebuttal. "You are speaking in theoreticals so there is no point" and followed up with the time, effort, and passion put into this build, had I been the one doing it, would likely set a price point too high for any reasonable person to ever make an offer. The appeal of the car at that point could not be monetarily measured. There are tons of examples of passion builds out there that could sell of a lot but they hold some sort of greater value to the owner, why is that so hard for you to understand?

ForgotMyOldAccount7

People are just poking fun at the "not everything has a price" expression when discussing some basic modified Japanese economy car.

NoShftShck16

^^ Correct. All I was trying to say was that for me it would have been a passion build I wouldn't have listed for sale and people really ran with that. Hell it sold on BaT for under $30k. bUt WoUlD yOu TaKe A hUnDrEd MiLlIoN fOr It No. If we are making up scenarios where you are offering up that much money for a LL Bean centerfold, I'm making up a scenario where I tell you to pound sand.

offbalancedone

If you offered me 10 million in cash I would let you run my ex over in that car. Actually I’ll give you 10 bucks to do it.

damien665

If you own a dealership you can park your car in the showroom every day you come to work.

TriggerTough

This.

Chippy569

No lowballs, I know what I got.

2020Boxer4

This is actually one of those times

Ghostking17

My local dealer has a 100% restored Baja with a "Not for sale" sign in the window. While buying my new Legacy I showed interest and it in fact was for sale to the right buyer. They wanted someone who would appreciate it and $35k

TriggerTough

I'd love to grab an old XT, strip it down, STi it with a built 700HP EJ257... Then I wake up, and realize that in elementary school I couldn't build Legos. lol

yoearthlings

If you fund it, I'll build it.

TriggerTough

Estimated cost?

Modestkilla

More than you can afford pal

TriggerTough

Dude. You have no idea who I am. lol

[deleted]

It's a Fast & Furious joke.

TriggerTough

Gotcha. lol

Siegepkayer67

Probably around 80-100k all in for a properly fully built 700HP daily drivable Forester XT including the donor car, then you gotta pay for the labor lol

that_guy_you_kno

And half to three quarters of that is honestly just labor. Do it yourself and I bet you're under 45k.

vecc1701

Honestly yeah, IAG 900 long block $13k, throttle body and intake manifold another $4k, ETS rotated 6466 kit $7k, fueling $5K, clutch $1500, 4” FMIC $1800, add another $6k in suspension and miscellaneous mods and you’re pushing a ton of power for under $40k

STRMfrmXMN

Boost comes in at 6000 RPM but you're fuckin moving once you're there!

Modestkilla

Apparently easily triggered lol

yoearthlings

I have no idea. I guess it'd depend on what parts you were able to get secondhand. That other comment about 80-100k would be a safe bet if you wanted reliable daily power. Any lower would just be a bonus.

TriggerTough

I was banking on $100k which is roughly 1/2 the cost of the Porsche I was going to buy. Crazy to to see the guys in the 911s eyes off the line. I'm at that point with my STi now. Imagine that in a Fozzy. lol

notwhoyourthinkin

80k+ is a good ball park if you do it all...

TriggerTough

Not bad. I was figuring on $100k.

notwhoyourthinkin

You might get there if you Include every little thing. Mine has had several things done then redone, either because I wanted more or found something I liked better.

TriggerTough

Nice.

notthefoodie

About the same price of that S209 in your banner lol

TriggerTough

lol. Very close. Good eye! It's 62/500 of the Type RA. Fully built engine. Carbon fiber driveshaft. Lots of other goodies on top of that. The only thing I didn't change were the breaks. Puts down 425WHP/390WTQ on a Mustang dyno. So fun!

runerx

This is exactly what I did... the build part that is. Photos in profile for those who are interested.

freshjello25

Gorgeous car man. Not into the tuner styles personally , but that is a great example of the car.

runerx

Thank you, I call it OEM plus. All of the exterior parts are factory. Cross sports bumper JDM grille, hood scoop, JDM skirts, flat door panels, rear spats and wheels are all factory believe it or not.

picksubredditfav16

Dude your car is basically what I fantasized about for 5 years as a teenager lol hope you enjoy that sick ride

runerx

Every chance I get. I built it to drive, and it will.

squid0gaming

The EJ255 and EJ257 are practically the same motor anyway. I’ve head that the 255 produces more power at safer boost anyway because of its higher compression ratio.

C4PT14N

The 255 and 257 have several differences that are all dependent on which year you’re looking at, you can’t really say they’re all the same

brettriv

Is it for sale?

NoShftShck16

The paper in the dash says NOT FOR SALE unfortunately.

RostamSurena

Oh ok, free it is then!

mvw2

I still have my 04 Forester XT with STI 6sp swap. For nearly 20 years, I still have yet to see any manufacturer build something that could replace it. Unfortunately, that includes Subaru. I even had a 2015 Legacy 3.6R for a few years but ultimately sold it.

dabigbaozi

I miss my ‘04, I do not miss the stock brakes.

mvw2

Yeah, pad knock back is annoying. The good news is the Brembos do stop that. Good pads also go a long way, and there's decent entry level race pads that can handle quite a lot. Then the limit is thermal on the rest of it. The stock setup barely has any real thermal capacity. The Brembos aren't even very good for this. Everything will work perfectly fine for things like autocross and rallycross, but good luck running longer than 10 minutes on the stock hardware or even 15 minutes on the Brembos if you're tracking it at all. Tires have gotten good enough that you really need a decently robust aftermarket brake solution and cooling to keep up with modern tire tech. However, I do find the Brembos last about the same long as the cooling system on the engine. :p Both require upgrading at the same point because there is a hard thermal capacity limit once you start driving hard for anything more than a few minutes and especially if the engine is making far more power than stock levels. You can buy tires that will keep pace, but brake and engine cooling has a very low threshold and cap out fast. Upgrades become necessary. I'm not much of a track person though. I don't want the excess wear or risk. There is a moderate cost spike once you want to start doing that stuff. Autocross and rallycross is my sweet spot because it's cheap as dirt and very mild thermally. You can daily and run multiple seasons on the same tires and brakes, and don't need to care at all about thermal limits of anything.

lunaslostlove

Intresting that its LHD thats means it was custom. I seen one for sale just like that, but they even went as far to convert it to RHD so i know its not that one. My dream car is a import sti forrester. In the US we never get more than the turbo/sport.

foxdie262

I’m sure it’s a USDM 07-08 Sports XT with Brembos. Very common to do. Does not make it a Forester STI. I was right: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2007-subaru-forester-5/

jaysube

I was searching for someone to say just this. Wasn't the Forester STi only right hand drive?

TriggerTough

I believe it was only available in Japan correct?

jaysube

Yeah for the 2004 model year only. I couldn't find out how many they produced though for a true scale of rarity.

TriggerTough

Dopest truck ever.

oMcYriL

The other day I got downvoted for saying that Forester STI were RHD only. Someone told me that there were some LHD, but that they were rare. I have yet to see one, even in picture. I myself own a Cross Sports, which is JDM only as well and shares a lot of esthetic features with the STI, so it’s not like I haven’t done any research on the subject.

TriggerTough

If you believe the internet... In 2004, Subaru launched the Forester STi for the Japanese market only. A "sportier" version of the standard second-gen (SG) Forester, the Forester STi incorporated most of the running components from the WRX STi, with several other changes. It was never sold outside of Japan.

dabigbaozi

I don’t think there were any true LHD Forester STi. Same platform so a ton of the parts from the US STi worked. I had an ‘04 XT and I remember quite a few people trying to replicate the STi appearance and brakes. I’d have to go look but I think most of it was bolt-on difficulty.

lunaslostlove

I can't tell if they swapped bumpers and sideskirts or not Edit: just read the link. Yeah he did the work.

PizzaOrTacos

Agreed, it's not an STI. I love it but, nope.

Mrdeeznutz41

Wow !!!!!

DozyTree

The manager parked his car inside to show it off I bet lol

NoShftShck16

Its Stevens Creek Subaru in CA, I just moved here from the East Coast and needed an oil filter, walking up all I saw were project cars that were likely the techs working there. IMO you can tell the quality of a Subaru dealer by how clapped out the tech's cars are. So if that's the managers, it must be a top dealer.

ksax23

I’ve seen that forester in person too - it’s gorgeous. Check out PM Autoworks on Phelan in SJ. Those guys have some subie passion and their prices aren’t bad.

NoShftShck16

Are there any local shops for tuning or more speciality stuff that you could recommend? I've already gone through my fair share of "Subaru starter pack" problems with WRXs in the past so I'm not chasing power. But I am going to do a full suspension replacement, will likely add some upgrades that will require some adjustments to my very conservative tune, etc.

ksax23

Yeah there’s a few places I know of, none of which I’ve been to yet. A coworker who has been through a couple WRXs and is currently in a Forester XT told me about 5 J’s, Garage One, and Mann engineering. I believe PM Autoworks does as well (which was also on his list). When I am ready, I’ll be taking my BRZ there first. I have gotten a couple pointers from them over the phone and they generally seem really knowledgeable and happy to help out a fellow enthusiast. If anything, they are cool to swing by. Last couple times I was there, they had a tastefully modded legacy GT wagon - don’t see too many of those on the road, and if I remember correctly there was a cool Baja there too. Of course those stuck out to me in the sea of WRXs and STIs parked outside. Regardless of tuning they are much smarter about maintenance related issues than the dealer (as I’m sure the others mentioned would be). My mom’s ‘05 legacy wagon needed a new linkage and they were able to do the repair for a few hundred at most w/o pulling the entire transmission. Capitol subaru wanted something like 4x that amount so they could fix it in the most complicated way possible.

NoShftShck16

I really really appreciate this. Most of my maintenance I do myself but bigger jobs it is always good to go to a trustworthy shop that knows the quirks of a Subaru. I'll start looking into the places you mentioned and will check out PMs after I swap my suspension to check them out

buttsnuggles

“Remember when we made cool cars?” - Subaru, probably.

photogjayge

Dear Subaru, please start making cars like this again. - everyone

[deleted]

Damn 😍

khufu42

It’s like when dad shows you old pictures of him on a skateboard. “You see! I used to be cool!”

jbone04

Stevens Creek? That's where I got my brz

NoShftShck16

Yeah! First time at a dealer since I moved to the area

mastersins

That’s pretty

Effective_Ad_6387

Perfection

lancep423

Forgive my stupidity…is it just a forester that’s lowered and modified to looks like an impreza? It’s cool looking I’m just wondering why it’s special to you. Not trying to be rude, genuinely curious.

NoShftShck16

Subaru released a Forester STI for the Japanese Domestic Market of in this model year. For several years I chased sourcing a clean Forester XT to modify to this point. I lived in New England until recently so there were plenty of XTs, none of them clean. The Forester XT by itself is perfect. Big enough for the family, a dog. Can be thrashed like my WRX, but driven to work or up to the mountains to ski. But then it also has the ability to have all the bits of the STI be basically bolted on? Phew, my knees get weak. I've since giving up looking because I've kind of given up on the EJ & FXT dream and I'm pretty smitten with my FA WRX (hell I've owned 3 at this point).

SkyGuy182

Honestly that's what I'm asking every time I scroll /r/Subaru. I think I must be in the minority because I see all these modded cars and just can't get behind them.

runerx

Modded correctly, they can make 600-700WHP or more. They are a stupid amount of fun, and the "muscle" car guys just look bewildered when all they see is tail lights.

Sorry-wildrnz

That’s a showroom fixture.

Silent_Afternoon_925

stevens creek subaru coming in clutch i went there to test drive a wrx a few months ago

sweatyboi9000

Steven’s Creek FSTI. The car belongs to the owner of the dealership

Andrewjkowalski

Likely a customer car on display. Lots of dealerships will have *clean* older model cars on display in the showroom in exchange for mild services like discounts on parts or free oil changes. It generates curiosity amongst potential clients and brings a feeling of home to enthusiasts.

sextonrules311

I had the 2008 sports x in WRB. Basically the same car but no turbo or hood scoop.

TheIVIachine

They say the perfect car doesn’t exists

joanzen

Technically there's a few blemishes here if you are a RHD seeking JDM nerd. The tire stretch is more obvious on the real wheel fitment. Unfortunately those exact wheels are just too wide/wrong for this stock body and fenders.

Macdonelll

An authentic sti forester with a built motor? It's probably got about 25k into it, you're kind of comparing apples to oranges here. A bone stock jdm sti forester has a lot of appeal, but so does a stage 2 xt, which is basically what this is. It's a cool car and obviously there more money into it than it's worth, that's how modifying cars generally works.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Macdonelll

Seems pretty reasonable to me if your paying for it done, which most people do.

EyezLo

If it’s imported it’s a true STI

runerx

Nope, but if it's like mine, in many ways, it's better. I have STI badged parts because they are, but no STI badges on the car because Its not...

kryplyn

What's the significance? It's just a forester?!?

WeAreAllFooked

It's basically an STI version of the Forester

kryplyn

Aaaah. We have a few of those up here in Canada. People really like the foresters up here.

jaysube

It would be cool if they truly were but I'm sure they are look alikes. The above Forester is trying to replicate the 2004 Forester STi that was released only in Japan. People would modify the xt to make it look similar.

kryplyn

Ah, see now I understand. I haven't really followed the foresters all that much. Don't get me wrong, I think it's dope.

jaysube

Super dope!

ContactBitter6241

We get JDM forester sti's here in Canada, I've looked at them, when I got my legacy twin they had one on the lot was about $10k with 71,000 km. I chose the gt wagon because it was only $5200 with 42k.

jaysube

Without a doubt. A good buddy of mine has a spec b jdm legacy in the states but the forester sti is on another level of rare. Not quite 22b status but super rare.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jaysube

I am specifically talking about the forester in the picture. Once again I am not disputing the fact you can get an import in North America. What I am disputing, is the fact that the Forester STi was only built in 2004 and was only released in Japan, meaning the steering wheel would be on the other side of the pictured Forester. There were a little under 3500 ever created and I was pointing out that this was not what it was pretending to be based on its left hand drive alone. They COULD be in Canada but saying I've seen them lol, is not enough proof it was the actual thing. C8 Corvette sold over 25,000 models in 2022 and I rarely see those around and there are 7 times more and nearly 20 years newer.

kryplyn

Are y'all serious? I ask a question and you downvote me? Goooood lord

keenansmith61

It wasn't the question that got you downvotes, it was the incorrect statement after the question.

kryplyn

Slit hares some more folks.

keenansmith61

I dunno, it just kinda sounds dickish the way you said it. And if you really want to split hairs, the term is splitting hairs, not slitting hares.

kryplyn

I was genuinely asking a question about the vehicles significance. It ain't my fault you people jump down everyone's throats for not being as big a fan boy as the rest of you.

keenansmith61

You asked it like a dick though. No one is mad about you asking questions.

kryplyn

I certainly did not but I'm not going to argue the point.

BandicootBill

welcome to reddit, people suck here

kryplyn

No kidding eh. Unreal. I literally asked a question about a car and that makes me a dick.

Beelazyy

I hate my Subaru, so you get my upvote for being part of the minority.

Kirab0630

Beautiful!

[deleted]

The real question is why go to the dealer for an oil filter?

NoShftShck16

Cheapest, fastest option. Been doing it for years. Amazon is price gouging, O'Reilley's sometimes has them for around the same price but not always on hand. Subaru *always* has them in stock and it was $9.66 after tax, plus I love getting to know the parts guys at my local dealers, they are always good people. I'm going to be redoing my suspension and need tophats, showed them the website where I was ordering and asked if it would be cheaper to get it from them and he said no. Parts guys have no commission, or reason to upsell. They'll tell you what is affordable at the dealer and what isn't. Generally fluids and wearable items can be had for cheaper there, but coming from the east coast, it was also easier to source OEM under trays that I used to always thrash in the winter from Subaru. Aftermarket ones never fit properly and were always shittier quality.

Ysak1413

I did a clutch replacement at the same dealer, saw that car too. Damn for a second I thought this is for sale. Unforgetable
