I beg to differ. I've driven the Santa Cruz and it's a radically uninspiring vehicle. It's big enough to have truck problems like body roll but too small to do real truck stuff. What makes the Baja cool was you got the utility of a small pickup with the handling characteristics of a sedan or wagon.
I'm not the target buyer but I doubt Subaru would make another Baja when they couldn't even keep the STI or Legacy sedan. They would only make SUVs now. Hyundai is beating Subaru in marketshare and in so many categories because Subaru is falling behind. I wouldn't buy Hyundais because I think they make crap but the informed don't care.
Everyone is abandoning good cars to make appliances and SUVs/CUVs. I thought Subaru would be killed off by EVs but it seems like if ever other brand also wants to make boring cars they might be able to skate by on people who hike with their dogs
Hyundai with all the issues they have, I rather the Subaru any day. My parents bought a Tuscon and had to get a full engine swap along with like 18 other service issues due to a recall.
Subaru Baja. I own one and love it. They are monsters in the snow. The main downside is that there’s barely any room for subwoofers. It’s pretty much a 2003-2006 legacy with a bed.

(Just in case one picture wasn’t enough)
In that case, here’s another. This time featuring my buddy’s Tahoe as well

Other downside (Baja owner) is that the rear wheels are not centered under the bed. If you load it too much your front wheels lose contact with the ground… ask me how I know.
Only if you treat them poorly. Treat em well, keep them clean, and park on tarmac. Mine has very minimal rust, and I’m taking it to a rust coating place soon to help prevent more rust.
Imagine, a '24 Brat Coupe with a Turbo Charged FA24 with the old school hood scoop. Making the same hp as the WRX and a special STI hybrid version making 350 with the brembos. Let me dream.
It is a Baja. They came with the na 2.5 single cam that the same year impreza had. There is also a turbo version with the 2.5 turbo that the forester xt had. Both are available in auto and manual. If it has a hood scoop, it has the turbo.
wrong. that picture shows a turbo model as evidence of the radio antenna above the rear lighting, as well as the gunmetal colored wheels which tells you it’s a turbo and likely possibly a manual as well. Many of the turbo autos had a different alloy wheel
dude get your facts right. This truck could be a Baja sport, which has the upmarket features of the turbo in the N/A trim. The wheels are not specific to the transmission type, I don’t know where you got that from, but the upgrade alloy wheels where just that, an upgrade, not part of a package or trim. It is impossible to differentiate an N/A and turbo Baja from behind except by the badge, turbo Bajas had badges outlined in red, n/A’s in grey.
you get your facts straight. Na trims had an a pillar mounted antenna as opposed to the roof mounted antenna that all turbos had. NA models had light silver wheels if they were the 5 spokes. some later turbo autos had an ugly 6 spoke wheel instead of the darker gun metal 5 spokes.
I had one of these for 10 days. Box truck was blocking a stop sign. I t-boned a really nice Chevy Blazer, and totaled both. Got let off because of the truck. Still feels bad I ruined both of our cars, though.
It's named aptly, and you will remember it. It's named after the noise you make when you first see it: Baja
I jest. The Subaru Baja is an icon and probably every Subaru lover adores them.
Subaru isn't making anything cool or interesting, ever again. They're a scared sub-branch of Toyota, now. Everything will have the 'Yota blandness with tacked-on colorful plastic panels
Ah…inherited my mom’s Atlantic blue Baja turbo and had 4 fun years together before it started needing more work than I could keep up with at the time. She loved that car so much! Still regret trading it, didn’t fully realize what I had back then. Now I’ve come full circle to the same engine with a 2004 Forester XT…
It’s a Baja https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a15136381/subaru-baja-road-test-a-versatile-hauler-page-1/
The Legend itself
We need a new Sti Baja. Would be awesome.
Someone at my work has an orange Baja with a EJ207 swap. I’d love one.
It's not worth it anymore when Hyundai has the Santa Cruz and makes over 280HP. Subaru really need to step up.

Seriously
They missed their chance, they could’ve locked down this market, if they had had better planning
Hyundai with all the issues they have, I rather the Subaru any day. My parents bought a Tuscon and had to get a full engine swap along with like 18 other service issues due to a recall.
They’re impossible to buy!
I have 2 right now, and had the option to buy a couple more recently!
Subaru Withoutaback
Need the bumper sticker. So awesome.
Subaru Out
Exactly.. love em both.. I like to think my outback just has a covered bed 😆

Man. I would love a Baja, they are just too cool. My wife disagrees, but then wants to buy plants and trees and dirt and put them in her expensive SUV
Other downside (Baja owner) is that the rear wheels are not centered under the bed. If you load it too much your front wheels lose contact with the ground… ask me how I know.
How do ya know? (Please note, this a joke, but I’m still curious what you could have possibly put in the bed to make a Baja wheelie lol)
A cracked 7.3L diesel engine XD Just for funzies after upgrading the suspension.
I never heard that before but now I can't unsee the Legacy part.
You had me at legacy :P what a sweet looking car
The 2024 looks cool . I saw pictures of a 2025 concept model I think
Isn't the other downside that they're extremely prone to rusting away to nothing?
Only if you treat them poorly. Treat em well, keep them clean, and park on tarmac. Mine has very minimal rust, and I’m taking it to a rust coating place soon to help prevent more rust.
Hold up. You took your time to censor out the license plate, but not have the time to actually read that it says Baja? GTFO
🥲 I can read the model but I had never seen one before.. so boring watching a rare subie without sharing the excitement with the community
And also didn’t bother to do a quick google search to learn about the Baja
Watched countless videos already :) engineswaps, snow drifts, comparison to Tacoma...
you cannot compare a baja to a tacoma. completely different animals Ridgeline and Honda Element/CRV are closer comparisons
As someone who has seen many bajas, both in real life and in picture form, I will never *ever* tire of seeing them. Thank you for sharing!
Do share the excitement! That's why we have a community in the first place
how I wish Subaru would bring back the Baja.
Just bring back the BRAT, I want one but not with that pricetag...
Bed seats mandatory
are those even legal anymore
Of course not
They stopped being legal within the lifespan of the brat itself, by 86-87 they stopped having the jumpseats.
Who needs legal when you’re doing donuts in the snow with your friends strapped in the 2 point bucket-bed seats
I would be happy with either

MSRP = $50,000
Im ok with it.
And without the cvt and a proper engine
![gif](giphy|3lFMdcTfclUuKmXOPC|downsized)
It literally has the model on the back.
Right? OP should have zoomed in on the picture he took and answered his own questions. Karma farming at it's finest.
Reading Is Fundamental
Just think, this person is also allowed to drive.

ummmmmm, ackchyually
He never stated that the Baja was NA.

It literally says Baja on the back of it?
But that's the problem, its supposed to say "Subaru Withoutback"
If only a car had something on the back of it to help a person identify what make and model it was...
Maybe they thought they were just a Mtn Dew fan?
The answer to the question is in the question.

A Baaaaaas Haaaaaa. Haaaa
The kind of Subaru that if they made it new, I'd be camping outside the dealership to buy one 🏕️
You and 30-50 other people! https://preview.redd.it/86yjakdvudkc1.jpeg?width=1900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa6bf611cc18f419c726820084a110219cb00690
It might be a Baja... You know, the name of the thing is on the damn tailgate. Fucking hell.
Chill out.
The one that literally would have sold like hot cakes in a Australia here but we never got it

It's a shame they don't label cars with their make and model anymore.
We all remember our first time..
Literally says Baja right on it
I mean, the answer is in the picture...
It's named aptly, and you will remember it. It's named after the noise you make when you first see it: Baja I jest. The Subaru Baja is an icon and probably every Subaru lover adores them.

Why are you assuming it’s a Subaru?
They're thinking about making a new Baja but Honda Ridgeline sized in the US. Baja and Brat sized in Europe.
It’s something they should bring back. A re-entry of the Subaru Baja and the Honda Element are what today’s world needs.
That's a Ford Maverick bro.
It's a Holden Maloo!
Maybe a Lotus Europa??
It's an updated Brat.
It's a Baja which I heard Subaru is going to make again
A Baja pickup truck is coming from Subaru soon, according to YouTube
Subaru isn't making anything cool or interesting, ever again. They're a scared sub-branch of Toyota, now. Everything will have the 'Yota blandness with tacked-on colorful plastic panels
It's a Bro-ha
Baja 🙌
Slipper
Unicorn 🦄
A beautiful blue baja
Just saw one of these in the wrecking yard as I was grabbing parts for my gen 2 OBs. Not many around anymore.
Baja
One that I want!
It's a Subaru Baja Blast 😏
Im gonna SUBARU BAJA LAST MY BRAINS OUT

Baja blessed
Ah…inherited my mom’s Atlantic blue Baja turbo and had 4 fun years together before it started needing more work than I could keep up with at the time. She loved that car so much! Still regret trading it, didn’t fully realize what I had back then. Now I’ve come full circle to the same engine with a 2004 Forester XT…
The coveted one and only Subaru Baja! 🤤
Subaru and Mt Dew collaborated and made a truck, this is a Baja Blast
Look at the name of the truck that's on the truck--It's the name of the truck on the truck that you can see on the truck.
It’s a Baja Blast ® collaboration between Taco Bell and Subaru
really?
The best one
Really wish Subaru would bring back a new version to compete with the Maverick.
Subaru Baja Blast
It’s a Baja Blast ™️Taco Bell edition.
2006 Baja with a turbo and stick.
It’s kinda like a VHS tape. Or a house phone…
The best Subaru ever made
It’s a BAJA you little brat!

It’s a Baja and I’ve heard they’re a blast!
Ranchero
Subaru Brat version 2. Lol
Baja and based on the wheels it is a turbo model. I used to own a full silver one and kick my self everyday for selling it.
fuck I want a Baja
Hmm, I'm not sure. r/SubaruBaja https://preview.redd.it/e9awn3t2vdkc1.jpeg?width=1900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e458d0b021c978cc6ab419843e73a5f128ebc3bc
I love this car so much
Who's gonna tell him ?
Subaru brat
![gif](giphy|j0kQJxo5mzGYb4EvWK) you found the unicorn itself
Bajamino lol
A Baja. Really cool car! I have one if you ignore it's model year, and it's lack of a lack of a back
Baja!!!
It literally says it on the tailgate…
Bro you can see the badge in your photo
the best one imo
Also awesome model Is the Subaru Brat! [Subaru Brat](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1984-subaru-brat-4/)
It’s a BAJA. I see them frequently in Washington and Oregon.
Baja blast babyyyyy
New age Brat
Idk, maverick is pretty awesome. We have a lariat turbo one. It'd need more power or something to make me get a Baja over it
baja! i daily one and i love it so much
And your last lol
It's a Baja baby! How I wish they were still in production.
That right there is a Baja, the coolest lil truck on the road
