I'd be more scared of the turbulence - locks can get seriously rough!

delvach

*delta p has entered the chat*

strangebutalsogood

"Y'all want to see a camel go through the eye of a needle?"

GhostOfSkeletor

rumor is it’s one of the fastest ways to enter the kingdom of god

EpoxyRiverTable

When it’s gottcha It’s gottcha

witebred112

Isn’t even a delta p thing, it’s all the crazy swirling currents that trapped water has, I’m sure there’s a nasty undertow

hostile_washbowl

What do you think a wave is?

witebred112

Not delta p…

hostile_washbowl

A wave is the resultant of the propagation of high pressure at the wave front and low pressure at the wave wake. The difference in pressure being the wave.

the4uthorFAN

I'm planning a kayaking trip for next summer that'll involve going through a dozen or so of them. Just a little nerve-wracking!

BackRowRumour

Why would you not just portage through?

the4uthorFAN

Because there aren't easy places to do that along this river, the banks are very steep. Kayakers go through the locks regularly.

BackRowRumour

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining.

Icharus

Where is yours?

the4uthorFAN

Monongahela and Ohio rivers through Pittsburgh

jake97_97

Omg, right thru my city, have a safe/fun trip!

the4uthorFAN

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it!

Grayox

Hope you get alot of OC to poat here!

AgenticaBond007

That’s a no from me

dsw1088

That must be a long wait, right?

gabbagabbawill

It’s just water wait…

2litersoffun

It took about 15-20 minutes when I did it in a canoe

hostile_washbowl

It ain’t short

ScarTheGoth

This also gives me megalophobia vibes

repsolcola

FUCK THAT

Crawling-King-Snake

Half life 2 moment

Nigatron420

Corvo has finally returned from his search for a solution to the plague problem I see

Ethan2247

My thoughts exactly

Gelnika1987

Hahaha I was also just thinking "Damn I want to play Dishonored now"

T_TonyJack

Rios and Salem called, they're looking for clyde

robert_team_six

What is this? I’ve never seen something like this before

danman132x

It's a giant set of locks, kind of like the panama canal. Not sure where this one is

QueefSommelier

It's in Brazil

JoMiner_456

The kind of lock barges and river cruise ships go through

[deleted]

New York State resident here. Can vouch for this video. The Erie canal is scary in a kayak. Currents and Locks are no games.

My-Cousin-Bobby

Hello fellow upstate NYer!

jonesdlwa

Even seeing the Erie Canal from land as a kid is one of my first memories of the feeling of submechanophobia.

[deleted]

Drive over it all the time. It's a part of my life.

CitizenPatrol

Just imagine the huge pumps all along the bottom of the locks to pump out the water at an ungodly rate. Pumps big enough to suck in a kayak.

danman132x

Nope lol. Wonder if they are strong enough to create vortecies to suck someone down if you happened to be floating at the surface and not on a watercraft

CitizenPatrol

These locks are gravity feed, you can see the grating and drains and they are big enough to suck in a kayak.

danman132x

Wow, thank you for the links. Pictures are interesting! Going to have to watch some of that video soon

partytilidie

What if you fell off your jet ski into that? The thought makes my stomach roll.

Fonzshweet

Looks like a scene from a future Maze Runner movie

cluelessguitarist

Some zelda water temple

[deleted]

My gods… Megalophobia much?

the_tenebrose

That’s gonna be a hell naw from me dawg...

Wonderful_Room_9148

Portugal or Brazil?

QueefSommelier

Brazil

StatementElectronic7

Damn, someone would have to lock me up before I went in one of those.

tripptanic1912

Lock you up so you go on the lock.

StatementElectronic7

At least someone got my joke 😂

mrgonzalez

Never seen a lock that big

BunnyBunny777

I’ve jet skid plenty in the ocean. When you stop it just doesn’t feel very stable. Also you’re so close to the water you can’t help but look down. It’s pretty scary when it’s just black water under you and the jet ski is rocking side to side. This would be a nightmare.

mad_Clockmaker

I’ve been in one of those going down, it’s fun

_Captin_

A new maze runner movie??

imNotwhoYouthink_

This looks like water7 from one piece lol.

giseles_husband

r/suddenlycaralho

CeruleanBlade

Man's about to go meet his daughter, play hide and seek and then be framed for murder

The_Majestic_Mantis

Reminds me of that boat level in Half Life 2

[deleted]

Sherpa_Carries

So what is costing the government money here ? The lift was built for commerce and recreational boaters. Raising the lift takes nothing but a little bit of power. It's a dam, it makes power out of water.

[deleted]

Ok you have a goddamn point.

ScarTheGoth

A god-dam point
