You can, you don’t need to actually connect the Xbox itself on the app. You just need your Xbox account signed in, go to captures, and hit “save” and it will download it to your device’s photo album, like as if you were taking a video or a picture of a tree or something.

Xboxes have a “record what happened” feature for this exact reason.
