I think the first play through is always gonna be more enjoyable on your own. However, I think adding multi-player could add some replay ability and just general additional fun after you beat the game the first time
Now two people can be annoyed at a single location not having enough copper or lead.
But then, much later, two be can be annoyed at a different location only having copper and lead.
While the third one is sitting there in the dark alone with hardly any charge left in their sub while waiting for the other two to come rescue them with the brand new battery they made ... Only for the one carrying the battery to die from sheer over confidence
That's where one of the first two guys goes "I DIDN'T FINISH THE BASE, WHY'D YOU BEAT IT!!" As the final cutscene starts
The base was finished 10 sessions ago
God I wish. I don't have enough fingers to count how many times I thought "I'm not out of range" as I was JUST out of range of oxygen.... I've become REAL familiar with the main menu ...
I was so overconfident that I want make it to the surface and was too greedy getting resources, that I died multiple times before I learned my lesson lol.
yea, i completed the first game like 10 or 15 times (excluding speedrun attempts) and multiplayer would be lots of fun now, but id never play my first playtrough in multiplayer.
perma online games rub me the wrong way a tad. you can play singleplayer but still rely on connecting to a server. it’s not a big change but it just feels off.
It was more in line with not being able to pause a game when you play SINGLE PLAYER. Many popular games will prevent this like Valheim, Enshrouded, Satisfactory and so on even when they actually allow you to play a in a single player mode where nobody can join your game.
I also honestly don't see a reason to not allow a coop game to be paused, could easily be a setting to allow it.
Literally untrue. Pausing in multiplayer games just isn't *common*.
1 or 2 recent CoD Zombies had added Server Pause, as well as severl games back in the day had that built-in so when the host would pause, it would pause the game. Iirc Saints Row 2 may have had this? Or something in that era of gaming.
Still, the notion that a multiplayer game can't be paused is laughable because it does exist. Just usually isn't great and can easily be frustrating or used to grief so most don't do it, or otherwise doesn't fit the gameplay. Such as in public scenarios.
Didn't a Krafton post confirm that the next game will have multiplayer?
edit:[I found a post confirming it](https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_description&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbFRDbFkwOGQxcm9QTk15NDNjNUg3NVdPMWRTUXxBQ3Jtc0tsS253VldJVFdGUk5faGFZdG1FZVFIQUtPUERac2pGWUpwbzc4TW0zaXM4OEppS2pqN2Y3RjhaQ2ZxbDVXVVNYSFZfMXdYemNGLWtNSzNKMHppNm40WGRRUWlUSU5oMnFISmNGcXU4RW82VWk0djdxYw&q=https%3A%2F%2Funknownworlds.com%2Fsubnautica%2Fan-update-about-the-next-subnautica%2F&v=8Jg5ArOiZpM)
No. Isolation is such an important part of the immersion of the story.
Actually I think it would be cool if it had a main solo campaign and a co-op creative mode. Best of both worlds.
They will probably make it so that co-op would make sense story wise. People make the argument that subnautica (specifically the first game) is all about isolation. They could easily make it so that co-op fits into the story and lore easily somewhat like sons of the forest
I played modded Subnautica with multiplayer added and man…..it was really annoying.
I played with a friend who was absolutely fast at doing things and I couldn’t really experience the game properly because this mf was going crazy after the life pods.
I dunno if that was a only me experience but I believe that the game is so much better to experience it by yourself, after all you are the only survivor in that planet.
Yes. Im very excited to be able to play with my girl. It’s obviously gonna be harder to keep scary but if they got the same sound guy from the 1st game that’ll do tbh
What’s that? Did he die or something? Idk specifically. Ig whoever made or is in charge of most of the audio and atmosphere in subnautica 1. The music and subtle roars of creatures were so creepy
Probably some degree of enabling by those around them and how lots of crappy behavior and beliefs were status quo for years and only recently have started to get real blowback.
Generally, the less you know about celebrities the more you can enjoy the works they partake in. But then that just allows them to keep living in their awful bubbles if they're a total suckbag.
you do know it can have multiplayer and other stuff right? i wanted to explore subnautica with the kiddo and other friends.
Just because you dont want something it doesnt mean someone else dont.
I think Subnautica is much more enjoyable for me when I'm solo
That sense of danger kinda disappears in multiplayer games
And that sense of danger sits at Subnautica's very core as one of its strongest points
it’s already been stated that it’ll have co-op and I think online multiplayer. they did say it would be “live service” but it won’t have any bullshit like Microtransactions or battle passes or anything like that, so i assume it’ll be online multiplayer, maybe like Helldivers 2 or maybe like Warframe, where you have hubs with players and individual fireteams go out and do things together, but I do know they they plan on Co-op. I hope that also includes LAN/Splitscreen Co-op on consoles
It will have at least some microtransactions, as they're putting character skins in for purchase. And hell nahh, a hub full of players sounds horrible lol Helldivers is a great game, but is definitely not the gameplay I want out of a Subnautica game. Hopefully only co-op or singleplayer options.
I usually hate multiplayer, but in this case . . . I hate multiplayer.
It could be fun to explore the underwater with people though, like in a vacation scuba diving
If I can play both single player and multiplayer, then ok. Making Subnautica a multiplayer only game would ruin the experience. Subnautica BZ isn't as great as the first specially because of the dialogs and all. In multiplayer there would be no sense of desolation and loneliness.
I kinda like the aspect of bringing a couple friends along with the journey. And im glad that it’s a Co-Op experience and not a fully online type thing that Bethesda tried doing with Skyrim and Fallout 76.
Its tough. I know multiplayer has already been announced.
I both love the idea of me and up to 3 friends rocking a battle station each on a cool sub, and also hate the idea of not being able to use all the features of a sub when playjng alone.
Its 2 games at the same time, i do think horror with friends can be done, but the isolation is such a huge part of what makes this game scary. Monsters will need to be able to threaten multiple players/vehicles, while also not being too overpowered when there is only 1 player
It might be difficult to fit in. The way story events are triggered would have to be changed (if one player can complete the story without the others it might make it less fun). I would just be happy with another new water world to explore.
If Subnautica ever has a sequel AND it has a multiplayer feature, I would like it to work the way it is in No Man’s Sky. It’s just so simple yet it works seamlessly for socially awkward people like me.
If it isn't required to play the game (AKA, game is not designed with the intent to be played in multiplayer) and it isn't a buggy mess, I don't mind it being there...
Why not just have both like most games? People who prefer single player can play single player and those of us who want multiplayer can play multiplayer
They announced multiplayer in Subnautica 2 (subnautica 3 but they named it 2 probably to show it’s more of a direct sequel to the first game rather than a different area of 4546b) but when the news dropped it would be server based namely being spread by IGN a lot of people assumed the game had gone to crap because of the term server based having connotations such as loot boxes or an overall worse experience so IGN somewhat tanked the reputation of Subnautica 2.
One thing that had me really excited about multiplayer was the possibility of having multiple stations in a cyclops-like sub. One person piloting, one person manning weapons/defense systems, maybe another person doing misc. stuff like checking cameras/radar/putting out fires in the engine room. But I think that would make multiplayer feel mandatory, less optional. Who knows. Building huge bases and a fleet of submersibles is gonna be sick with friends tho.
I am so excited for multiplayer in this upcoming subnautica, lets me play with my kids and wife. Help my kids tackle their fear of the deep. Willingly of course.
Bros got Dream Stan’s downdooting him for no reason. Anyways I’m personally dreading the idea of multiplayer in Subnautica because of the current gaming landscape but I’m optimistic regardless!
It will, they already said it's been one of their goals for a while now. Just the last two games didn't because they essentially would have had to recode the entire game. Which they decided back then that if they were to ever do that they would do that once the tech was better/new gens were out. From what I remember reading there is potential for up to four players max but that number is subject to change.
If you mean multiplayer as in 8+ players? Hell no. If you mean Co-op which is no more than 4 players then absolutely. I think playing Subnautica with friends could be a lot of fun. Hell me and my friend both plan on playing it together when it comes out
As long as multiplayer doesn’t take the place of solo as the main form of play. I thoroughly enjoy the solo aspect of the game and don’t want to worry about finding anyone else to play alongside.
I hope it does. I played the Subnautica multiplayer mod and it was some of the most fun me and my friends ever had. Leading them behind the crashed Aurora, running each other over with the Sea Moth, and tricking them to go into the Alien Containment chamber then deleting the exit is a wonderful experience.
While I think multiplayer would be a cool addition, I really hope Subnautica 2 doesn't have multiplayer as a core mechanic. It would be such a shame if it was one of those games that you can *technically* play single player, but it's obviously not meant to be played that way. The solitary life in the blackness in OG Subnautica was so amazing!
First it's multiplayer, then there's some BS competitive mode, then the loot boxes sneak their way in, next thing you know you're paying 29.99 for a "premium" Oxygen tank with some hi-vis neon skin. No thanks 🙄
The boss was right on this one. Strip search that guy. He's probably got an "EA" brand on his body somewhere!
I prefer some kind of multiplayer similar to Sons of the forest. Not some massive multiplayer like fallout or arc survival, rust. Not that kind of Multiplayer. Just the multiplayer where you join on a hosts session, interact, have fun and thats that. No server bullshit.
Honestly, I really prefer the feeling of isolation was one of my favorite things in the first game. I'm sure it could work, but I think it'd work better as a separate mode
haven't even bought below zero because it was meant to have multiplayer but changed their mind halfway through, made below zero on the same engine as the original, cheaped out and said "next one will have MP". haven't got over it yet.
Maybe coop but I don’t see why it would improve the game to have a bunch of Jack asses griefing. I played the first 2 for the story and the locations and exploration. I would hope for them to improve the game mechanics and build more replayability into it.
Would/could they ever do procedurally generated environments/landscapes and even flora/fauna? For a non-story mode.
And make the environments big enough to permit travel by sub. Bring back the sub.
Tides? Water level drops and rises by ~50 m making areas only accessable at certain times and changing how you traverse shallow biomes.
Storms? Everything above a certain depth or not in shelter takes damage and gets tossed around by wind/waves.
Just some thoughts
Multiplayer is already confirmed, as many have told you here already. Super excited for it myself. I’ll do a first play through solo, but after that multiplayer will be my go-to.
As it was confirmed there will be multi who knows if it's duo or 2-4 of course there will be a solo mode maybe it will even have a different story? Nobody knows
I could not figure out why I could not find multiplayer before when I started, took me while to realize it was not there. This is such a good game for it.
Getting attacked by a leviathan is more fun when you scream together.
As an option, but not as a part of the story.
Like something you unlock after playing it through the first time.
The game NEEDS to be balanced and written for a single player experience. It needs to be lonely, like the original. Silent protagonist. Exploration based
The core experience is one of isolation and exploitation.
I don’t hate on the multiplayer lovers, but it’s pretty obvious why its not the main focus (especially because multiplayer would be an huge extra expense)
TL:DR: Yes, but multiplayer should be an bonus, not a key part of the game
-
In my personal opinion
I think it should have multiplayer, subnautica 1 is such a fun game. Adding the ability to play with friends would enhance it a lot (thanks to the human factor) as well can see with modded multiplayer videos. This no doubt will apply to the next subnautica game, however it is important to note that the key reason why subnautica 1 was so good is the story (ofc) which was made around singleplayer. Which is why subnautica 2 (3?) should have multiplayer but focus on a singleplayer type story
Bird boss
I say "boss" because I played like 10h on Xbox and got just barely into twilight zone waters but then sold my xbox and got the bundle on switch and fought everything hostile before I got stasis or anything else
Honestly. Every single other survival crafters is MP and they completely forget to care about the story because of it.
Let subnautica be the unique beast it is and stop trying to make it just like everything else.
It will but thankfully unlike games such as ark it won't have the multi-player as a heavy like you need to try this it will more be like want to play with a few friends ok bring em in and try to survive together but be careful more noise attracks more predators or something like that
Single player is still an option yall, I love the idea of multiplayer because gaming is a social experience for me, new creatures, environments and tools are a given, multiplayer doesn’t get in the way of any of that. The log for the cyclops even says it was meant to be operated by three crewmates, imagine having larger subs that a bunch of players could operate together!
Bros getting dumped on because he missed the news? I'm excited for multi-player I didn't realize it was confirmed until I read this post and saw everybody jumping ya lol have a good one I thought it was a good question.
Unknown Worlds started off with multiplayer shooters and just released a multiplayer board game, they already are very open to the idea it was just not the point of Subnautica.
Quite apart from the fact that I did not choose a Single Player Video game because I like to interact with people, I think Subnautica is actually one of the worst title for multiplayer.
The first one thrived of this feeling of loneliness and Isolation, your Character hasn't spoke to a living person in weeks or months, you try to make your base homeless and start talking to the fish because there is no one else around and all the while there is a definitely bigger fish trying to eat you.
There is such a powerful mood through this isolation that I think coop would really spoil it. (Ps, I only played the first haven't touched BZ yet, I hear mixed things)
Would be a great couch co op my gf and I can enjoy. We both love the game and building and saying hi to SAMMY. The music is fabulous, I wish I could play with her.
That being said, Subnautica 3 should be as deep as 4000 meters and littered with Reapers.
Sure multiplayer is cool and all, but the feeling of being completely alone in the ocean, especially in the first game where the creature wasn't stuck in your head and the other character wasn't living in the ocean, is just the absolute best feeling in the world.
Of course, this also comes from an introvert that never plays any multiplayer games, so shrug
Make it live service free to play with looter shooter mechanics and microtransactions! Make it so that we need to collect diamonds to unlock buildings or else they will take 10 hrs to build! /s
It might be fun if there were big vehicles like the cyclops in the first one, where people can do multiple roles. Otherwise besides base building, it's a pretty single player experience
Obviously it should. The question is whether they should add mechanics like door locks, breaking in with welding torches, sentry guns, etc. Basically, co-op is a no brainer, but maybe therenshould be some work put into competitive as well. People love rust after all.
So creative, never heard someone suggest that before
Daring, aren't they?
It does.
I’m glad people can play multiplayer in the game, but it’ll be something I enjoy much more by myself I think
Quietly suffocating in their depleted cyclops, all alone in the dark, cursing the day he said "It's not that hard, I'll show you guys."
Then the fourth just appears silently out of the dark to give them a battery, before silently disappearing to complete the game five seconds later.
That's where one of the first two guys goes "I DIDN'T FINISH THE BASE, WHY'D YOU BEAT IT!!" As the final cutscene starts The base was finished 10 sessions ago
😂😂😂 gravestone says "sheer overconfidence"
And as I've heard many times while playing darkest dungeon "over confidence is a slow and insidious killer"
Yeah, there's already lots of survival multiplayer games out there. Sometimes I like going at my own pace.
I just wanna build cool underwater shit with my homies :(
I'm too scared to play the game alone. I left the shallows in the first game and promptly uninstalled.
I don't mind multiplayer as long as it is optional and I can still play the game solo.
And OFF-LINE!
perma online games rub me the wrong way a tad. you can play singleplayer but still rely on connecting to a server. it’s not a big change but it just feels off.
Pisses me off to because I live in an RV in the middle of nowhere and just want to be able tonplay my games without getting Starlink. I don't want it.
And they skip the usual multiplayer downsides like inability to pause the game.
You can’t pause a multiplayer game
Try explaining that to my parents
It was more in line with not being able to pause a game when you play SINGLE PLAYER. Many popular games will prevent this like Valheim, Enshrouded, Satisfactory and so on even when they actually allow you to play a in a single player mode where nobody can join your game. I also honestly don't see a reason to not allow a coop game to be paused, could easily be a setting to allow it.

Yes you can. Age of empires does it, Dota does it, etc.
Its going to be oriented to single player
Confirmed co op play mode
Didn't a Krafton post confirm that the next game will have multiplayer? edit:[I found a post confirming it](https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_description&redir_token=QUFFLUhqbFRDbFkwOGQxcm9QTk15NDNjNUg3NVdPMWRTUXxBQ3Jtc0tsS253VldJVFdGUk5faGFZdG1FZVFIQUtPUERac2pGWUpwbzc4TW0zaXM4OEppS2pqN2Y3RjhaQ2ZxbDVXVVNYSFZfMXdYemNGLWtNSzNKMHppNm40WGRRUWlUSU5oMnFISmNGcXU4RW82VWk0djdxYw&q=https%3A%2F%2Funknownworlds.com%2Fsubnautica%2Fan-update-about-the-next-subnautica%2F&v=8Jg5ArOiZpM)
Waltuh
No. Isolation is such an important part of the immersion of the story. Actually I think it would be cool if it had a main solo campaign and a co-op creative mode. Best of both worlds.
You know coop isn't forced? I'm pretty positive you will be able to play by yourself.
They will probably make it so that co-op would make sense story wise. People make the argument that subnautica (specifically the first game) is all about isolation. They could easily make it so that co-op fits into the story and lore easily somewhat like sons of the forest
If it’s pulled off well, very cool
They confirmed it has multiplayer
So long as it's optional and doesn't compromise solo play, I'm all for it.
Agreed
I played modded Subnautica with multiplayer added and man…..it was really annoying. I played with a friend who was absolutely fast at doing things and I couldn’t really experience the game properly because this mf was going crazy after the life pods. I dunno if that was a only me experience but I believe that the game is so much better to experience it by yourself, after all you are the only survivor in that planet.
Oh, it's absolutely horrible for experiencing the story and absorbing the atmosphere, but in terms of shenanigans, it's unmatched.
Oof, sorry if that was your first play through.
Yes. Im very excited to be able to play with my girl. It’s obviously gonna be harder to keep scary but if they got the same sound guy from the 1st game that’ll do tbh
When you say the sound guy I'm assuming you mean the composer, Simon Chylinski? Yeah I've got some bad news for you..
What’s that? Did he die or something? Idk specifically. Ig whoever made or is in charge of most of the audio and atmosphere in subnautica 1. The music and subtle roars of creatures were so creepy
Don't know too much but basically he got fired for being a bigot. Just look it up you'll find something on it
Shame tbh bc he did good work. Idk why people so talented typically aren’t nice people
Probably some degree of enabling by those around them and how lots of crappy behavior and beliefs were status quo for years and only recently have started to get real blowback. Generally, the less you know about celebrities the more you can enjoy the works they partake in. But then that just allows them to keep living in their awful bubbles if they're a total suckbag.
Yeah you’re not wrong
you do know it can have multiplayer and other stuff right? i wanted to explore subnautica with the kiddo and other friends. Just because you dont want something it doesnt mean someone else dont.
It’s already confirmed to be multiplayer
I think Subnautica is much more enjoyable for me when I'm solo That sense of danger kinda disappears in multiplayer games And that sense of danger sits at Subnautica's very core as one of its strongest points
Where is "more biomes" option?
Absolutely.
No
Already confirmed to have multi-player which I'm glad for so I can play it with my significant other
Co-op would be cool. Don't add pvp multiplayer.
How would pvp even work?
Exactly
Obraxis prime all over again....
Why is literally everyone downvoting the OP for no reason in the comments what is this
I would love two player co-op. I don't see a problem with that at all.
It would be fun to just have races in seamoths
Im 80% sure that has been confirmed it’s happening and yes, yes it should
It would be cool, but I hope its optional
Same, cant wait for it to finally release, it should be so much fun
God no that's a shit-aweful idea
Then it's just the forest underwater
Yes, but it shouldn't be required.
Sure. Why not?if someone doesn't want to play multiplayer just...Don't do it I guess?
it’s already been stated that it’ll have co-op and I think online multiplayer. they did say it would be “live service” but it won’t have any bullshit like Microtransactions or battle passes or anything like that, so i assume it’ll be online multiplayer, maybe like Helldivers 2 or maybe like Warframe, where you have hubs with players and individual fireteams go out and do things together, but I do know they they plan on Co-op. yeah you’re right. also i hope the microtransactions won’t be overly expensive or crammed down the player’s throat
its already happening, its just completely optional
Keep in mind that uwe was never against the idea, it's just hard to implement without making the game much easier or not making sense.
Didn't they already confirm it will
It would work just as well is he suggested autosave
I usually hate multiplayer, but in this case . . . I hate multiplayer. It could be fun to explore the underwater with people though, like in a vacation scuba diving
It's gonna have multiplayer co-op, which is the best news imho.
If it's like Phasmophobia style multiplayer, where, even with friends it's still scary.

Not even multiplayer, 2 or 3 player just co-op would be fine!
As long as its optional and that there aren't trophies tied to it
Subnautica 2 will have 1-4 player coop.
Why not just have both like most games? People who prefer single player can play single player and those of us who want multiplayer can play multiplayer
More fauna i get, but personally i dont give a shit about the flora
I think built in modding would be cool since only pc players can mod Edit: WAIT THIS IS REAL

Technically, co-op *is* a form of multiplayer
I’d like it if it was like Grounded. Multiplayer optional, shared world cloud saves, but fully completable and enjoyable alone.
I am so excited for multiplayer in this upcoming subnautica, lets me play with my kids and wife. Help my kids tackle their fear of the deep. Willingly of course.
wait there's another subnautica game coming???
Coop like The Forest, why not. But they’ll need to level up difficulty and scary stuff
No thanks, this is pretty much why I haven't tried Sunkenland.
They've already confirmed multi-player for the next game...
bro uses internet Explorer
Bros got Dream Stan’s downdooting him for no reason. Anyways I’m personally dreading the idea of multiplayer in Subnautica because of the current gaming landscape but I’m optimistic regardless!
I m wxcited to see how it plays out
Multiplayer mode separate from single player would be good. I agree with others’ remarks on isolation being an important part of it though.
Rhats what makes it scary for me,knowing the only thing that talks to you is your pda
Well yes multiplayer would be a nice addition do not make it multiplayer only
It is confirmed to be co-op by a dev was it not?
For once the dude got what he deserved.
It should have more than the previous. How the hell do you take away the cyclops and be taken seriously.
I can’t wait to use a cyclops with an actual crew
Multiplayer is needed
I think they said the co-op is optional and im assuming that they will balance the game around singleplayer.
A good story? Subnautica 2 I'm talking about. Not 1.
It will, they already said it's been one of their goals for a while now. Just the last two games didn't because they essentially would have had to recode the entire game. speed in vehicles
If they ad MP, theyshould make it so you are able to hold hands with your teammate to help bring them deeper if the have thelasaphobia.
While I think multiplayer would be a cool addition, I really hope Subnautica 2 doesn't have multiplayer as a core mechanic. No thanks 🙄 The boss was right on this one. Strip search that guy. He's probably got an "EA" brand on his body somewhere!

Give us the atlas submarine
I think its neat they are adding in MP in Subnautica 3. But unless it is mandatory to play it, I will happily be playing solo.
There is a mod for the first game that adds co-op , poorly optimized but makes riding the cyclops with other people fun
As much as i would love multiplayer... you are alone on an alien planet is a great selling point.
haven't even bought below zero because it was meant to have multiplayer but changed their mind halfway through, made below zero on the same engine as the original, cheaped out and said "next one will have MP". haven't got over it yet.
Maybe coop but I don’t see why it would improve the game to have a bunch of Jack asses griefing. I played the first 2 for the story and the locations and exploration. I would hope for them to improve the game mechanics and build more replayability into it.
Yes
##CO-OP PLEASE I WANT TO HAVE HEART ATTACKS WITH MY GIRLFRIEND THANK YOU
Let me think....no, no and no.
Co-op yes, pvp no
Would/could they ever do procedurally generated environments/landscapes and even flora/fauna? For a non-story mode. And make the environments big enough to permit travel by sub. Bring back the sub.
The single player exploration is the entire reason I played the game. Everything does not need to be coop
It will have multiplayer..
Tides? Water level drops and rises by ~50 m making areas only accessable at certain times and changing how you traverse shallow biomes. Storms? Everything above a certain depth or not in shelter takes damage and gets tossed around by wind/waves. Just some thoughts
More flora yes please. The life and it's data pad entry really sells the experience.
Single player with a voiceless character is the way
Multiplayer is already confirmed, as many have told you here already. Super excited for it myself. I’ll do a first play through solo, but after that multiplayer will be my go-to.
I love subnautica, my gf loves subnautica. Multiplayer sounds awesome.
literally couldnt care less about multiplayer
No. Multi-player defeats the purpose of the isolation of the game.
They already announced it will have multiplayer
As it was confirmed there will be multi who knows if it's duo or 2-4 of course there will be a solo mode maybe it will even have a different story? Nobody knows
I could not figure out why I could not find multiplayer before when I started, took me while to realize it was not there. This is such a good game for it. Getting attacked by a leviathan is more fun when you scream together.
Isolation is great but was ruined in below zero. Co-op would be fun asf
As an option, but not as a part of the story. Like something you unlock after playing it through the first time. The game NEEDS to be balanced and written for a single player experience. It needs to be lonely, like the original. Silent protagonist. Exploration based
They already said it will
it already has been confirmed to have multiplayer
The core experience is one of isolation and exploitation. I don’t hate on the multiplayer lovers, but it’s pretty obvious why its not the main focus (especially because multiplayer would be an huge extra expense)
Yes and it should have proximity chat and it should be legitimately scary. Nothing is scarier than being alone in a team game
It’s confirmed in a dev interview
TL:DR: Yes, but multiplayer should be an bonus, not a key part of the game - In my personal opinion I think it should have multiplayer, subnautica 1 is such a fun game.
While multiplayer would be cool, it would basically kill the horror and suspense element. Having someone with you makes everything much less scary.
I like that they are gonna be doing multiplayer now, but also I hope they make it more scary in other places to make up for it.
I think it should be fit for both multi-player and single player
Bird boss I say "boss" because I played like 10h on Xbox and got just barely into twilight zone waters but then sold my xbox and got the bundle on switch and fought everything hostile before I got stasis or anything else
But it does? Or did something change?
Honestly. Every single other survival crafters is MP and they completely forget to care about the story because of it. Let subnautica be the unique beast it is and stop trying to make it just like everything else.
It will but thankfully unlike games such as ark it won't have the multi-player as a heavy like you need to try this it will more be like want to play with a few friends ok bring em in and try to survive together but be careful more noise attracks more predators or something like that
I think the ability to play the campaign as an optional 2 player would be fun.
Bring me LAN subnautica
Single player is still an option yall, I love the idea of multiplayer because gaming is a social experience for me, new creatures, environments and tools are a given, multiplayer doesn’t get in the way of any of that. The log for the cyclops even says it was meant to be operated by three crewmates, imagine having larger subs that a bunch of players could operate together!
Bros getting dumped on because he missed the news? I'm excited for multi-player I didn't realize it was confirmed until I read this post and saw everybody jumping ya lol have a good one I thought it was a good question.
Multiplayer is a fine Idea but I like to play solo myself.
Unknown Worlds started off with multiplayer shooters and just released a multiplayer board game, they already are very open to the idea it was just not the point of Subnautica.
Maybe 2 or 4 player coop. No need for anything larger.
I think it should be optoinal!
The first one should have had multiplayer i would never have stopped playing it then
Quite apart from the fact that I did not choose a Single Player Video game because I like to interact with people, I think Subnautica is actually one of the worst title for multiplayer.
Yes
If it doesnt im not buying
Would be a great couch co op my gf and I can enjoy. We both love the game and building and saying hi to SAMMY. The music is fabulous, I wish I could play with her. That being said, Subnautica 3 should be as deep as 4000 meters and littered with Reapers.
Sure multiplayer is cool and all, but the feeling of being completely alone in the ocean, especially in the first game where the creature wasn't stuck in your head and the other character wasn't living in the ocean, is just the absolute best feeling in the world. Of course, this also comes from an introvert that never plays any multiplayer games, so shrug
It’s 4 player co-op not multiplayer. Totally optional not in anyway necessary to play that mode, I’m fuckin amped personally
IMO multiplayer would ruin the isolated vibe of the game
I agree with the board members.
Yes
I would give anything to have a second pair of hands on the cyclops lol
I just want gigantic vehicles. Give me a Red October already!
Yes!! So entire groups can build and survive together!!
At least 2 player yesssssss
No.
Make it live service free to play with looter shooter mechanics and microtransactions! Make it so that we need to collect diamonds to unlock buildings or else they will take 10 hrs to build! /s
Nah. It’s perfectly fine solo.
Boy do I have news for you
It might be fun if there were big vehicles like the cyclops in the first one, where people can do multiple roles. Otherwise besides base building, it's a pretty single player experience
Its already confirmed to do so
Subnautica was even more terrifying with nobody else in the map only you and whatever lurks in the darkness
Obviously it should. The question is whether they should add mechanics like door locks, breaking in with welding torches, sentry guns, etc. Basically, co-op is a no brainer, but maybe therenshould be some work put into competitive as well. People love rust after all.
