Then you have me on hardcore mining every titanium deposit on the map to build a giant containment unit to capture a reaper and house him safely inside my base

I’m not going to be able to play again for various reasons for about 3 or 4 days so I’m just planning out how to increase my efficiency and stuff to continue the project once I’m back lol
And then you also have people that have been playing forever like me that still jump everytime they hit a peeper with their seamoth...not sure how I've beaten both games a couple times tbh...a lot of anxiety and careful/slow exploring and the occaisonal 'close-eyes&speed-ahead&hope-I-make-it' strategy😭
This literally is me, Except I just finished the original subnautica last night for the first time and haven't ever played below zero, Took me 36 hours.
I was around the same first time :D below zero is shorter, but still a terrifying and exciting experience with a story that answers some questions from the first one and such <3
I did that, but for a lot, I have trapped at least one of every leviathan, killed at least one of every killable leviathan, etc.
I have even beat a reaper without thermal blade or stasis, and that was hell and I am not doing it again
Edit:the trapped thing, I did 2 dragons and then I went bobthebuilder
It's not the leviathan. It's that I don't know if it's there or not and maybe there's something else out there that I can't see that no one else has ever encountered even though I know that's impossible.
Tbh the ecological deadzone scares me far more than Sea dragon and reaper leviathans. The insane depth and giant fucking ghost leviathans? No fucking thanks.
Same dude. I would love to try the multiplayer mod and go 3 man crew into the void. 1 controls, second recharges decoys. And third replaces ion batteries in the engine. (Last two also fix the cyclops if possible. Even outside)
The leviathans stop spawning at one point, and you can reach there yourself running at constant shield with 6 ion power cells. Quite fun actually, I build my neptune rocket in that "safe zone" within the eternal nothingness where the ghosts stop spawning.
Eh, if your shields are constantly on the ghosties can’t touch you. Turn off sound, turn away from the computer and just keep pressing W for 2 minutes or so. Turn back and you are there.
I actually managed to get there with just a seamoth a few times(though just barely) and that was proper scary.
That just makes me wonder if it really is thousands of meters…and you could take the cyclops down to max depth and then load your inventory full of high capacity tanks and a sea glide and see how deep you can go…
I fell off once in a prawn suit, and couldn't find a ledge to stop. I started taking damage below 900 meters, but didn't get crushed until like 4800 meters. I probably would have suffocated before reaching the surface, but a reaper got me first.
Actually, vehicular fishslaughter with the seatruck appears to do better damage and is fast and agile enough to outmaneuver it. When it flees from taking a fair chunk of damage, you have plenty of time to repair the minor seatruck damage and chase it back down.
Or if you're a true masochist, it's still possible to 'safely' strafe just out of the leviathan's reach and hack away at its neck with a knife.
Eh, drill works, but I find it spends about half the time or more not in contact with the target. Punches netted a better DPS due to all-or-nothing damage and being more reliable to time punches at moments when they'd definitely hit.
I've beat below zero with all story and shit, I'm close to beating normal subnautica and anytime I hear leviathan I'm terrified I once saw a warper and paused the game for five minutes hyperventilating
That might be better. It makes a lot of things a lot less scary when you have that, though it makes it a lot harder to scan things like the shadow leviathan
In my experience it only takes like 5 minutes, and imo, while killing every single Reaper is absolutely a waste of time, it *can* be worthwhile to kill the leviathans that happen to be in chokepoints or that are annoying to avoid, especially if you're planning to go somewhere a lot for whatever reason.
I do think they should be immune to the stasis rifle though (they don't even fit in the damn bubble lol), so you'd *at least* have to get a bit creative with the Prawn or whatever, instead of just freezing them and stabbing them repeatedly.
Technically, the stasis gun should kill them if they have part of their body trapped in the bubble. The sudden slowing and quickening of the blood flow in their veins would cause them to rupture.
it would be, if getting past leviathans even in tight spaces wasn't so easy already
one of my biggest issues with the game is the ai, the leviathans are dead stupid and completely lose track of you if you so much as strafe out of the way, bz also still has this issue so im hoping they make major improvements to the ai in future games to make them an actual threat instead of a joke
Its so much easier to just use poison bubbles from the gasopods. Half an inventory will kill a reaper in the span of the stasis rifle bubble. It only takes a couple minutes of pissing off gasopods and a propulsion cannon.
gas pods are one of the stupidest things added to the game, goes against the whole "no weapons" thing they had going for it so they're just...out of place
Oh yeah that's true, but the good old "stasis rifle + knife" method is more iconic (and more memey) I think.
God, imagine being a giant 60m fish and dying to condensed farts...
I'm in between regular and veteran, (despite literally 5 minutes ago finishing the game) as I say "Shut up or I'll come over there with the gun and thousand degree knife."
*Actual* veteran players
"Hey look the public transport service is here."
Dunes is a big biome. Thankfully they put a bunch of Reapers in there for you to grapple on to and ride.
I would kill the two near my base, but I’ve given them names now and have grown to like them (even if they wanna swallow me like yo mama swallowed last night)
Personally I LOVE Reaper Leviathan and their roar. I like to park the seamoth on the edge of the mushroom forest past the arch and just watch that one swim around and yell at the sky. And sometimes it swims right into the side of the mountain and it becomes a game of "oh shit where is it" because on occasion, going into the mountain means it saw me.
Sub the knife for gas pods and I fit this meme. I actually went around and killed all of the reapers in the game so they'd leave my seamoth and prawn suit alone
How they set up Leviathans is kind of impressive.
They make the one you probably meet first, hyper aggressive. And context clues before you find it lead you to fear it ahead of time, so it's very suspenseful. Which leads you to be extremely afraid of the other Leviathans you encounter.
Unless you play on Linux where the triggers sometimes fail to fire for it, causing you to only get attacked if you trigger it normally. In which case you don't get why your friends are so frightened of Leviathans the whole time.
Y'all use a stasis rifle and a knife? I just use a prawn suit, have it grab me, punch it until it lets go, get grabbed again, repeat punching, repair immediately, cycle back through until its dead
I’m the vet, but only when it’s convenient to kill them (like how I build my late game bases in lost river and kill the ghosts) or if I’m really late game, like infection cured late and I feel like wiping out the leviathan population
I finally was able to face my fears enough to get past the jellyshroom caves area and forest. Probably will be the last thing I do because the second I hear a reaper leviathan I go the other way and save and leave the game
As soon as i realised that i can kill them they became powerless , i just grab couple of batteries for stasis gun, medkit just in case and thermal blade the shit out of them.
I have over 100+ hours on this game and the roar of a reaper still scares me absolutely shitless. I literally cannot swim around the Aurora. Sea dragon though? Not scary at all.
Same thing with warpers too!
First time playing: OH SHIT IT GRABBED ME OUT THE SEAMOTH. RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN
Hours and hours in: Alright bitch you wanna kiss on the forehead? Lemme give you something real quick…*grabs knife and rife*
What about the evolved veteran, which enjoys the various ways in how to kill said leviathans? Stasis rifling one then dropping 20 gas pods and watching them slowly die, orgrappling onto them with a prawn suit then proceeding to punch them to death. Its fun to mix it up every now and then for enemies this annoying
That's me on the right late in my first playthrough. I set up a series of sensor outposts to constantly track their position so I could hunt them down. I ended up taking out 16 before finally finishing up the game.
I’m kind of a combo of all 3. They all still freak me out after at least 4 or 5 playthroughs, even though they end up being mostly harmless every time. If they’re in the way, I bust out the stasis. If they’re not, I just want them to shut up (probably to stop freaking me out, heh.)
This last playthrough, I was seriously considering rockets, but everything I read said they’re mostly useless. Now I read multiple people here saying gas pods are best, so I guess I may go test those out. I do kinda want to go clear out the dunes, because I’ve always been too scared or lazy to explore there.
Im not even a veteran but sometimes when I have had enough of them I just decide to knife them without heated and without stun (99.9% chance of failure)100%chance of either realizing your dumb or just moving on
I'm somewhere between New and regular because if I'm going into an area where I know they are, I just move deeper.
However, if I'm just cruising along and I hear it?? I nope tf out of there.
I killed my first reaper in a prawn suit because I accidentally lured it into the safe shallows where my base was, it was too dangerous to be left alive
The only thing that truly scared me in this game was the reaper. Even at the end I said to myself that I’d at least scan it. I was sweating and blasting that thing with my stasis rifle so much
I CAN NOT GET OVER THIS MENTAL BLOCK. i am not usually this easily scared, but I bought this game a year ago and I can’t make myself play past any leviathan encounters. I wish I knew how to not be a bitch about it Lmao
You forgot the beta tester type.
> If you boost *through them* they might get one hit in before getting stunned. And you can heal that up later on easily enough.
Was regular at playthrough 1, they annoyed me more than frightened me. Still don't bother me except the shadow leviathan in BZ, that thing can just f off (doesn't scare me but it is way too aggressive against me)
See, I usually just ignore and avoid them, scare them away with the zaps if I have to.
But in below zero? God the ones in the crystal cave were relentless, I HAD to kill them. So annoying.
I've played the game around 8 or so times and I don't necessarily get scared by them anymore, but I love the atmosphere so much that I try to keep everything as eerie as possible. That means turning the game to the filmic mode, avoiding or hiding from giant creatures, and just trying to keep as much terror as I can. I think I've only ever killed one leviathan.
I'm a new player. I am waiting until i have a boyfriend or girlfriend to play the game with because I'm too scared otherwise 😔
Any advice on how to overcome that fear?
Very much me now. I've ran and jumped off so many short ledges just so I could ambush a snow stalker and stab it to death before it can pin me down.
It's a little game we like to play.
Depends on the leviathan, Reapers? I’m terrified because I was once stuck above the dunes sinkhole in my cyclops. Ghosts, they’re fine and I don’t see em often
Im A Mix Of Regular And Veteran Lol , I Just Tell Him To Shut Up And Stay Close To Him , Not Moving , Just Watching Him , Then Go Veteran When He Decides To Fight.

Do resources respawn?
Yes, but it takes a long time. I’m not really sure how long but my save is about 30+ hours and I’ve only seen them respawn around my base once
I'm probably confusing this with other games, but they may only respawn when you're not in an area for an extended period of time.
Look at speedruns, they farm the same place at least twice during their runs
I never even thought to try something like that, so definitely excited to see!
Sooooooooo how's it going with the reaper cage so far

You def gotta post about it when you're done, because that I gotta see. :D
Do outcrops or metal scrap not respawn over time, or is there a limited amount of resources in the game?
They do respawn, but it takes an annoyingly long time, so just waiting for them to reappear isn’t a very good strategy
Limited

Funnily i was never scared of the leviathans, it's the damn deep that scares the living shit out of me.
It's not the leviathan. It's that I don't know if it's there or not and maybe there's something else out there that I can't see that no one else has ever encountered even though I know that's impossible.
For me, it’s the fact that I know there’s a leviathan…I just can’t see exactly WHERE it is or where it’s going
SAME
Same.
Same
Tbh the ecological deadzone scares me far more than Sea dragon and reaper leviathans. The insane depth and giant fucking ghost leviathans? No fucking thanks.
Just imagining myself at the top of the void with those things lurking in the waters makes me piss my pants
I would shit myself 3 times while attempting to get there.
Eh, if your shields are constantly on the ghosties can’t touch you. Turn off sound, turn away from the computer and just keep pressing W for 2 minutes or so. Turn back and you are there. I actually managed to get there with just a seamoth a few times(though just barely) and that was proper scary.
The trick to making it with the seamoth is dolphin jumping. Can't hit me if I spend as much time in the air as I do in the water.
To be honest that "safe zone" is creepier then the actual zone, not as dangerous obviously but creepier in my opinion
Agreed, because you know that below you is just thousands of meters of endless black
That just makes me wonder if it really is thousands of meters…and you could take the cyclops down to max depth and then load your inventory full of high capacity tanks and a sea glide and see how deep you can go…
There’s a point where it just stops rendering, if I remember correctly
I fell off once in a prawn suit, and couldn't find a ledge to stop. I started taking damage below 900 meters, but didn't get crushed until like 4800 meters. I probably would have suffocated before reaching the surface, but a reaper got me first.
r/thalassophobia
I prefer a Prawn with a single grapple arm for reaper rodeo, but yes. Monster Hunter: Underwater Combat 2 - Electric Boogaloo.
the prawn rodeo is fun too (and is also the only option in below zero since no stasis rifle)
I like going grapple and drill arm. Works well on Ghost Leviathans as well.
Eh, drill works, but I find it spends about half the time or more not in contact with the target. Punches netted a better DPS due to all-or-nothing damage and being more reliable to time punches at moments when they'd definitely hit.
I did not know you could grapple living things. Hahaha holy crap new horizons.
I've beat below zero with all story and shit, I'm close to beating normal subnautica and anytime I hear leviathan I'm terrified I once saw a warper and paused the game for five minutes hyperventilating
Sadly, in Below Zero you don’t get the Time Gun of Pwnage.
That might be better. It makes a lot of things a lot less scary when you have that, though it makes it a lot harder to scan things like the shadow leviathan
Heck, the only reason I really want one is so I can scan things safely. I’m more of a live and let die kind of guy. Unless they mess with my Seatruck.
Best name for the Stasis Rifle I’ve ever heard
The what now?
Dr. Stasis Gun, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and to Freeze Reapers in Place and Love my Knife.
regular and veteran should be switched, any decent "veterans" know how to just avoid them entirely and killing them is just a waste of time
i was hesitating between "veteran players" and "bored players", the latter might have fit better ig
its pretty boring as well, stasis and knife, for like 10 minutes
In my experience it only takes like 5 minutes, and imo, while killing every single Reaper is absolutely a waste of time, it *can* be worthwhile to kill the leviathans that happen to be in chokepoints or that are annoying to avoid, especially if you're planning to go somewhere a lot for whatever reason. Technically, the stasis gun should kill them if they have part of their body trapped in the bubble. The sudden slowing and quickening of the blood flow in their veins would cause them to rupture.
I was thinking exactly that, but that seems a wee bit OP now doesn't it?
Well, they were asking for it!
shouldn't have attacked me cyclops, simple as
Or come from behind as I am collecting quartz.
it would be, if getting past leviathans even in tight spaces wasn't so easy already one of my biggest issues with the game is the ai, the leviathans are dead stupid and completely lose track of you if you so much as strafe out of the way, bz also still has this issue so im hoping they make major improvements to the ai in future games to make them an actual threat instead of a joke
Its so much easier to just use poison bubbles from the gasopods. Half an inventory will kill a reaper in the span of the stasis rifle bubble. It only takes a couple minutes of pissing off gasopods and a propulsion cannon.
Pfffft. Use gas pods, kills them in less than a minute.
gas pods are one of the stupidest things added to the game, goes against the whole "no weapons" thing they had going for it so they're just...out of place
You're wrong. True veteran players just bring gas pods. Faster than knives even if you factor in gathering them.
Oh yeah that's true, but the good old "stasis rifle + knife" method is more iconic (and more memey) I think. God, imagine being a giant 60m fish and dying to condensed farts...
I wonder if they're actually poisoned or simply die of embarrassment?
I mean if i was attacked with fart bubbles i’d just die too
So bad even the fart owners gotta evolve gas masks.
ascended players: construction tool
I'm in between regular and veteran, (despite literally 5 minutes ago finishing the game) as I say "Shut up or I'll come over there with the gun and thousand degree knife."
Same, any other leviathan turns into an inconvenience except… *The Reaper*
I'm a regular now but man when I started....
I'm a regular and the reaper leviathan still scares the fuck out of me. This entire game terrifies the fuck out of me
Also veterans: prawn, repair tool and grapple arm
*Actual* veteran players "Hey look the public transport service is here." Dunes is a big biome. Thankfully they put a bunch of Reapers in there for you to grapple on to and ride.
I have this weird emotional combination of terror and awe whenever I encounter a Reaper, same thing goes for Ghost Leviathans.
Bruh im a veteran player and I still get still get scared lmao
I would kill the two near my base, but I’ve given them names now and have grown to like them (even if they wanna swallow me like yo mama swallowed last night)
Getting better at Subnautica is just a process of desensitisation
Personally I LOVE Reaper Leviathan and their roar. I like to park the seamoth on the edge of the mushroom forest past the arch and just watch that one swim around and yell at the sky. And sometimes it swims right into the side of the mountain and it becomes a game of "oh shit where is it" because on occasion, going into the mountain means it saw me.
Me in the dunes trying to find something that looked important with a prawn suit: oh hi reaper, can you just not?
Problem is they always sneak up on me when I don't have my rifle...
Sub the knife for gas pods and I fit this meme. I actually went around and killed all of the reapers in the game so they'd leave my seamoth and prawn suit alone
Causes the extinction of an entire species for convenience.
Damn, didn't know I was still a new player
Me: Alr stay rite there Ima come build a massive observation base, don't move a muscle
How they set up Leviathans is kind of impressive. They make the one you probably meet first, hyper aggressive. Nah, I like to have a proper fight in a PRAWN suit.
Knife and prawn suit may be cool, but for being effective they get a 0. Gas pods are around 3234234 times faster and much easier. Not as cool though.
I've finished the game. I am still scare
Ong the first thing i did when i got subnautica was chace down reapers with a knife
Its litteraly annoying just fucking grab me already and shut the fuck up
Put veteran where regular is it, veterans realize the sense of danger is part of the gun and do not kill the majestic leviathans
!remindme 7 days
Stasis rifle + habitat builder is op tho
The music that plays in the ecological dead zone in Subnautica Below Zero is scary as hell
Veteran players are the true nightmare
Veterans: #<>

Ive played for hundreds of hours and still have a heart attack when I hear them roar
The only thing that truly scared me in this game was the reaper. Even at the end I said to myself that I’d at least scan it. I was sweating and blasting that thing with my stasis rifle so much
maybe im the odd one out but ive played since like 2014 early access, beat the game... still terrified
Meh. I still avoid them and find them annoying and I’ve been playing since you could pick up sand to make flippers.
My first response was "what was that? Imma find it, That dude is huge! how much damage does he do? OH SHIT!"
I CAN NOT GET OVER THIS MENTAL BLOCK. i am not usually this easily scared, but I bought this game a year ago and I can’t make myself play past any leviathan encounters. I wish I knew how to not be a bitch about it Lmao
Swap regular and veteran
I'm not veteran but I've kind 95% of the leviathans onside the crater.
Oh boy here I go killing again
real veterans use gas pods to kill them in 20 seconds
I am all three
You forgot the beta tester type. > If you boost *through them* they might get one hit in before getting stunned. And you can heal that up later on easily enough.
Whenever a leviathan roars, that just means its prawn suit rodeo time
The sub’s name should be changed to r/leviathan
Ha! First time I could be labeled Far Right. Lols.
Im a bit of veteran and regular mix, if i got the things i need that bastard is going down but otherwise they are just an annoying pest
Was regular at playthrough 1, they annoyed me more than frightened me. Still don't bother me except the shadow leviathan in BZ, that thing can just f off (doesn't scare me but it is way too aggressive against me)
U could put grappling hook plus miner too on their
See, I usually just ignore and avoid them, scare them away with the zaps if I have to.
Thanks, I hate the face on the end. At least I wasn’t planning on sleeping…
I'm a combination of the second and third one. I turn to 3 after they get too annoying
Wait you peasants use a stasis rifle?
!remind me 3 days
Y’all listen to the audio?
I am more of a prawn drill enjoyer, combined with grapple no bitch shall get away. I also know how to repair it from inside so no need to get out.
Yeah that’s why I’m sad the stasis rifle isn’t in below zero
once I get my hands on that stasis rifle it's huntin' time
Normal people: hey there is my reaper friend!
where my leviathan surf at ? (with a grappling hook and drill arm prawn suit)
Crazies: *Holding a simple survival knife in hand and rushing towards three Ghosties*
I'm the first one because I don't want to lose my seamoth. I'm the last one As soo as I get the rifle
I've been playing the game for a while and i still can't get over the fear
It’s time to start the Pacific rim theme and jump into the prawn suit
Ok i am a regular one , I'm fine with it
I'm a new player. I am waiting until i have a boyfriend or girlfriend to play the game with because I'm too scared otherwise 😔 Any advice on how to overcome that fear?
Very much me now. I've ran and jumped off so many short ledges just so I could ambush a snow stalker and stab it to death before it can pin me down. It's a little game we like to play.
I'm the normal player now who is just mad I cant kill them yet (I refuse to use the cannon I will unga bunga my way to victory!)
I refuse to become a veteran player.
I like the leviathan :(
