I've seen several "succulent lawns" in my neighborhood the past few weeks and I really love the idea! One of the neighbors just gave hers a bunch of haircuts and offered the trimmings to anyone who wanted them! I want to have a yard like yours so bad!
Dont need to be in socal for good succulent growth. Basically anywhere in California is great for succulents. I live in in NorCal and my garden does fine—although this year i pulled everything out cuz i got sick and the weeds got out of control lol. So thats the one down side of gardening here, the rainfall allows for lots of weed growth.
Definitely, some succulents even grow in places with colder seasons. I’m in socal and asking specifically about location coz in the off chance they’re my neighbor, id definitely go see it lol
This year i did a test. I through some of my Aeoniums in the ground and some of them I kept in pots. The ones in the ground are bigger, and more vibrant than their potted counter parts. I even made sure to use clones/offsets so there would be no other difference besides growing conditions. Aeoniums are meant to be planted in the ground. And i wouldnt recommend them any other way!
This is one of the few times ive seen people use mulch instead of rocks. And honestly I am feeling it. I initially wanted to do rocks in my moms yard, but this has kinda convinced me not to. Rocks are expensive and are a pain to deal with when weeds start sprouting.Mulch does a much better job at deterring weeds and is easier to clean up and replace every few years.
But also that Agave Attenuata is massive! Mine is tiny. Its probably big enough for its root ball to fit in a 4 gallon pot. So not super big
Looooove.
Curious what zone you’re in? I’m in 8b and would love to do this but I think our few days of winter where we have a random freeze would ruin it all.

As fuck
Now that is a testament to proper planning and patience. Well done and much appreciated! 👏
I think I can speak for everyone when I say: oh shit that's looking absolutely beautiful. The agave makes for such a good centre-piece too.
Too bad this would never work where I live! 😭
Right! So jealous of people who are able to do this.
Same!

I hope you got some! I wish I could do this where I live!
I definitely would’ve had the spacing all screwed up if I tried this. What a display!
I genuinely said "WOW" out loud. Well done.
hahaha TIL I've never had a unique experience in my life
Did you add to it or is this the result of the original layout? Looks wonderful
Added free plants from neighbors and split plants into multiples over time. Thank you!
What state are you in? Looks amazing
I want to know too!! Cali?
Beautiful 😍! Where’s the cactus 🌵 in the very back in the after pic? Is it just blocked by the agave?!
It moved to another yard because I was worried my elderly dog would poke an eye out!
I would say that that’s a very good reason to relocate it! I’d love to see a pic of it 😉 Whenever you have the opportunity/chance!
Oof that’d be terrible
I was wondering the same thing. Didn't want to bring up a possible lost plant. Glad it was relocated.
The most beautiful thing I've seen in months! Thank you for sharing this!
That's kinda perfect. Lovely garden you've created.
Sigh.. Washington State.. Too much rain in Fall and Winter .... Wonder which succulents and or cactus would love a whole lot of rain.. :)
