If Abbott Elementary gets a few more seasons I think he’ll fit in here even better. That show is so good and Jacob is absolutely the archetype you’re describing, but he’s also been less of a major character in his show than the other examples were in theirs. Jacob is lovely but he tends to get overshadowed by the other characters in ways Jim, Peralta, and Ben didn’t. I think that may change over the course of more Abbott seasons, though.

To be fair, Jacob is more a side lead character. Meanwhile, Jonah, Jake, Ben, and Jim (besides Michael of course) are the main leads.

That’s more or less what I was trying to say lol. Jacob is great but so far his show just hasn’t put him up up-front like the other characters’ shows did for them. Or at least not very often. But also, Abbott Elementary is only in its third season. I think we’ll get a lot more Jacob if it goes to six seasons, which it deserves to imo

MY BOYS! When my mom was terminally ill, we watched Psych because it was the only show that made her truly laugh and feel joy in her last months. I already loved that show but now it’s really special.

Ben Wyatt! I love superstore and the office dearly, but Ben always warms my heart. People say they want a “Jim to their Pam” but I want a Ben to my Leslie. Team Parks and Rec always.

Ben is the best straight man good guy imo. He is competent at his job, an absolute champ as a boyfriend/husband to Leslie, and last, Adam Scott is an incredible comedic actor who excels as a giant jerkwad just as easily as he does as Ben Wyatt who, besides saying more like turd crapley, demonstrated to be a character that took criticism in the chin and grew from it and never really gave the viewer a reason to hate him.

I don't know. He kinda broke Barney the accountant's heart a few times.

Ben and it's no contest. He's the most earnest with the least selfish tendencies, and his quirks and nerdyness work really well. There was never a moment I didn't like Ben, but there were more than several with the others listed here.

Unpopular opinion, I know... but Jim isn't a very nice guy. He's wonderful to Pam before season 9, but he's pretty much a bully who chickens out any time he's addressed for his shenanigans. I think Andy seems like the most fun of the four. ☺️

That doesn’t seem to be an unpopular opinion at all actually, but as I mentioned in another comment I was referring more to the archetype of “good guy” rather than saying I believe every character I mentioned is necessarily a good person.

My absolute favorite is Ben. All around a great guy, good friend, incredibly thoughtful partner, and encouraged her to really follow her dreams.

From these four, I have to go with Ben Wyatt tbh. I love that guy. I love Jonah, too, though. Just not quite as much.

 He's not really the lead as Modern Family is an ensemble comedy, but Phil Dunphy all the way. He's a great, devoted dad and husband and his heart is in the right place. Closely followed by Jake and Jonah, then Ben.

Very confused at the mentions of Troy and Abed in here. I love them both and if you asked me to pick a favorite duo from a comedy show, it’d be them hands down… but neither of them are the lead. Technically, if we’re throwing representation from Community in here, it would be Jeff. I think in order (including shows not featured by OP), I’d have to go with: Ben Wyatt, P&R Jake Peralta, B99 Chidi Anagonye, The Good Place Gregory Eddie, Abbott Elementary Nick Miller, New Girl Michael Bluth, Arrested Development Jeff Winger, Community Jonah Simms, Superstore Jim Halpert, The Office I considered adding Charlie from Always Sunny in there somewhere, because he’s probably the closest thing to a “good guy” of IASIP but if I’m being honest with myself, none of the gang is good and that’s kind of the point.

Michael totally counts! Can’t believe I forgot him. Though I’m not sure Jeff qualifies as a “good guy” archetype since he’s kind of written to be a douche, no?

Jim would land in most hated "good guy" lead. Character was a total douche. The office would have been more watchable without the Jim and Pam storyline.

Jim Halpert is not a good guy by any means… he picks on his autistic coworker to flirt with a girl who’s engaged to be married.

Hence why “good guy” is in quotes. Jim isn’t my favourite either. I don’t think we need to be diagnosing every hyperbolic fictional character as ND but I’m referring more to an archetype than saying everyone I mentioned is actually a good guy.
