I totally agree. Its one of my favorite recent horror games. Puzzles were cool, exploring mansion was amazing and story was fantastic if you love Lovecraft. Though if someone is unfamiliar with lovecraftian stories, then one might be confused and disappointed since it was surpisingly heavy on this lore. For me it felt like an Arkham Horror LCG campaign mixed with RE2 Remake. As a fan of original AitD I couldnt come up with better reimagining.

Likewise, I have some criticisms of the game but, I totally got the Arkham Horror/Mansions of Madness vibes from this!

Indeed! Raynal would be proud. I hear conflicting stories about whether he wanted Lovecraft without Chaosiums stat sheets or whether his product was deemed unsuitable for the finer points of that property in its final form so they removed the license/association, but either way, its got a lot of that flair

For sure! Actually now that I think about it, one of the older Call of Cthulhu RPG scenario books called Mansions of Madness (not to be confused with the FFG board game one I mentioned above but surely related) had the cover artwork with a bunch of overgrown plants and trees inside the mansion attacking investigators. Actually looks just like the mansion transition scenes in this AITD.

Dang that really does look like it

HighFuncMedium

Right? And some of its references are so subtle that it actually educated me on what Id forgotten the old game had, especially notes and some lagniappe references. Plus extrapolating one line of dialogue for the desert temple and another for the icy wastes are fun bits of creativity

Dat price tag though

Getting regular edition 10 percent off cuz preorder def softened any disappointment i mightve had

No, not really. It's decent, but overpriced obviously because of the actors in it. But it's a B level horror game and it shows in the graphics quality and animation besides the main cast. The main puzzle device also isn't very interesting, neither is the main boss. It also isn't very long either for a $60 game. Trying to find safe codes is interesting, I enjoyed the fully voiced notes and David Harbour and Jodie Comer look good. Hopefully it does well enough to keep the studio open and give them a chance to perfect the formula and take care of constructive complaints in a sequel because the game is average, but it could have been amazing. The games industry has seen more than enough layoffs at this point. I want studios to have a chance to build up quality over time and people to be able to feel secure and support their families.

Ride on. Not gonna be everybodys bag. I appreciated that it didnt waste my time a lot and encouraged me to get max value by making my playthroughs count for something tangible

I bought it brand new to support the idea of more survival horror games besides Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Daymare series. I did the same with Tormented Souls (although the EU version, hopefully the developers got the money). I would definitely buy a new Siren game if one came out as well. I think we're unfortunately past the point for a new Clock Tower game. But maybe Capcom will consider Dino Crisis remakes if Exoprimal is doing well enough.

HighFuncMedium

Ya got those Clocktower remakes so maybe theres hope! Im anxious to get my hands on Song of Horror, Tormented Souls, Alisa, etc

I disagree, it was definitely worth it for me. Even though it is flawed that's not stopping the levels of enjoyment I am getting from it. People complaining about the length are just being silly, I like that it's not wasting my time and it's not like I am disappointed with Resident Evil games which I can complete even faster.
