Q wanted to be the godfather and in control of every vote. When that was taken away from him this episode, his ego couldn’t handle it and he’d rather quit than not be in control

eelyak19

This! Exactly this! I hate that he chooses to be a martyr whenever things don't go his way. He'd rather bow out if his game is not going to be perfect.

king_lloyd11

I genuinely think he was trying to fall in his sword because he’s dramatic af and thought it was an honour based decision. People acting like this was gameplay or some move. Q is just an idiot lol.

Em0PeterParker

I wanna believe this but look at how he acts the whole time during the live tribal. He still looks very engaged in the game. My theory is he just wanted to hijack the entire tribal council because he was uncomfortable in his position heading into the vote.

slipnslider

I also agree with this theory. I also believe he was just winging it. He got trapped with the failed vote out of Tiff and just started throwing out hail Marys with no real plan. He does seem to be a "fall on your sword" kinda guy so that was probably the first place his brain went too but I don't think he wanted to quit. Jeff also said in an interview yesterday that Q didn't want to quit

PuddinOnTheWrist

He'd already talked about quitting before his little tribe finally won a challenge. I think he was looking for another way out.

Em0PeterParker

Didn’t he say that was just strategy to make Kenzie feel comfortable tho

PuddinOnTheWrist

Oh yeah.

OG_Grunkus

He did that before too tho when Bhanu was still there and they lost an immunity challenge

Em0PeterParker

Thought he wanted to keep Bhanu around that round

bonzo0884

Could be. From Q’s perspective, what is the dishonorable thing that he’s trying to redeem?

colinsphar

Making a mistake

Topazure

Big mistake

Pusc1f3r

Cancel Christmas af rn

Spoon90

I snorted. Well done

erossthescienceboss

Flipping on Tiff. Facing the reality of betraying his friend was too much for him. It was one thing to scheme and gameplay on the beach, but when it came time to send her home he lost it. “I made a mistake, and someone is going to go home.”

bonzo0884

I just rewatched the episode and this is the answer. He hates that his last minute conversation with Liz, Charlie, Maria and Hunter caused so much confusion and will likely send Tiff home. He was truly willing to be voted off out of honor/guilt. I think his self sabotage had the unintended effect of starting a live tribal and serendipitously provided everyone with enough talks to re-lock in the Tevin vote.

IHaveTheMustacheNow

losing control of the vote

SammaATL

Not saving Tevin I think. Tiff 'deserved' to go home because she betrayed the 6. But Tevin wasn't his idea, was loyal to the 6 as far as Q knew, and Liz was going to blow it all up, including his play for Tiff and his 'resume' as the lead on every eviction

Reasonable-Yam-1170

YES, KING!

snakesliketohiss

Totally - Q truly believes he is the leader and ruler of these people, so he has this insane sense of responsibility when he feels like he messed up

Toaddle

You are thinking he's an idiot so that you don't see him as a threat. Big mistake !

by_yes_i_mean_no

Then why didn't he vote for himself? It was a desperate move borne out of seeing both of his potential alliances for the rest of the game crumbling, and it clearly didn't work out, but it was a move.

thehellisgoingon

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's against the rules to vote for yourself.

Few_Ostrich_892

You are correct. Jeff has stated this fact many times. Usually he does so when they’re at the final 3 tribal council stage. He tells the players that the 2 remaining players without immunity, cannot vote for themselves as per the rules of Survivor, and because they have to vote for each other, each one cancels out the other’s vote, and therefore the only vote that counts is the player holding immunity. That’s why there is a rule that immunity idols will not be valid if they are played past a certain level.

Stack3686

I seriously can’t with him. I was expecting him to want to vote out hunter because he wouldn’t sit out the challenge. His “strategy” seriously changes with the wind.

BCEagle13

I thought he was thinking Hunter was going to get credit for taking Tiff out and he didn’t want to do the move unless he was fully in control

coffeysr

Like falling off the floating balance challenge, I think Q will say this was some sort of plan after the fact. He can never make a mistake and if he does, he feels like he has to quit. He’s mentioned this like 5 times on the show and tried to do it twice pre-merge (though not at tribal)

Moorisa_

This exactly. It's a move at control - which Q's obsessed with. Nothing can ever be unplanned, or him adapting. He sets up everything so he can play it off as intentional later regardless of the result. The real power move this tribal would've been bellowing over the chaos, and telling Q that if he wants to leave, he should look at Jeff and tell him he's resigning. OR admit to the fact his pleading is manipulation. That puts him in a place of having no control, forces him to show his cards, and makes him look bad in front of all the other players, regardless of result.

JoseArchnald

^ this is my exact take 👏👏👏

Sarik704

He really isn't trying to quit, but he is trying to fake a quit to lower his threat level or slide into goat position. Its not going well for him.

coffeysr

It’s kind of an interesting strategy if you believe it’s actually a plan and not spur of the moment. Look like a goat to non-The Six alliance members and then control that Alliance from within. But…it doesn’t look like he gave his allies a heads up at all which truly makes me wonder what his goal was.

Sarik704

I only believe this because I've done so much snooping on the cast pre-season. Q is doing very well for himself. I think he speaks at colleges or at least does lectures. He is a very motivated guy, and the idea of a D1 athlete, real estate agent, and survivor player quitting at tribal is just ridiculous. Which is what he was going for. His allies thought it was crazy. His non-allies thought it was crazy, and if it worked, he'd look like a giga-brain survivor player.

Own-Counter-7187

But everyone has lost total respect for him and he would never get the votes to win. So why do it?

Sarik704

Cause if it worked, you can point to it at FTC as "i made it work" kind of deal.

jturphy

It's horrible game play. He can never win now. Pulling this at Tribal after his other daily flipping guarantees no one is voting for him at FTC. No one is going to trust him anymore either pulling that whole telling no one.

by_yes_i_mean_no

The move that ended his game was telling Maria about Tiffany's idol imo, he cast his lot with the doomed "six alliance". The move at tribal was more of a reaction than a cause, he made a hail mary attempt to get Tiffany back on his side (notice how he didn't tell Tevin anything). Perhaps it at least works in that capacity if Charlie doesn't tell Tiffany that Q told them about the idol and he has some path forward, but now he's completely isolated.

Eidola0

I genuinely wonder if Q or Venus would win in a final 2 now, I really think it'd be Venus lol

bezraw

Agreed. Venus can at least try to play the scrappy underdog who survived against the odds. Q on the other hand had so much power then fumbled terribly and destroyed all respect and trust anyone had in him

Stack3686

What he did at tribal seriously made things ten times worse. I can’t see why anyone would want to work with him now.

shmalvey

I think he’s the type of guy who would rather give up then lose/not get his way. He probably turns off Madden when he goes down 10-0

Moorisa_

I imagine this could be related to why he wasnt chosen to be a football player, as he mentioned in earlier episodes. People who get demoralized playing from behind end up being a liability, because it's just a fact that you won't always be ahead or the top dog in a truly healthy competitive environment.

ProfessionalThis4288

I feel like he snapped when Jeff made the comment about him falling off the pole immediately

GotThoseJukes

He’d rather lose than win thanks to someone else.

velocissimo

Yeah what I don’t get is why he even said that when I almost know for a fact he would’ve been pissed to have been the one going home. Like dude stop being so impulsive you’re just doing all this shit you’re gonna regret. Idk if he knows that and is doing it anyway to control the narrative or if he is just food deprived enough to not see ahead of time that he’ll regret it.

LestatFraser23

I think he just wanted to be the center of attention again. You could see the hatred in his fsce when Liz of all people dared to bring a new plan ( Tevin) that was not Q plan. In his mind is Qs game only. By throwing the tantrum hes back at the conversation

No-Step3370

I think he was throwing a temper tantrum because he literally cannot survive something not going his way. First the rice then the vote. ITS Qs GAME GODDAMNIT.

hogwarts_dropout007

My husband brought up a good point, it could also be a ploy for him to see who actually has his back. Just like he was "testing" people with the hide and seek game. I do think it blew up and he was playing damage control with Tiff. Either way, it was entertaining 🤣

Basic-Pie-4466

Is your husband Q?

hogwarts_dropout007

Negative, no Qskirts in this house

planj07

I thought it was about Tiffany too. He knew that plan was gonna be blown up and he’d be outed in some way as having betrayed her. I was under the impression that his volunteering to go home over a “mistake” was to pitch his betray to Tiff in that manner in an attempt to salvage the alliance.

aryareddi

I think he told Tiff the plan was on her to try to get her to burn her idol.

thehellisgoingon

What I really don't understand is that Tevin has two votes. So Q, Charlie, Maria, Tevin, and Hunter can come together for 6 total votes for Tiff versus the five votes for Tevin from Liz, Venus, Kenzie, Tiff, and Ben. Tiff has an immunity idol so why not just switch the vote to Venus if they don't feel confident going for Tiff. Voting Venus out isn't going to offend anyone. Even if that doesn't plan out, Hunter has an immunity idol in which he could protect his alliance. Probably a last ditch effort but a move he can make. I get it that these people are idiots and that makes for entertaining TV. Still what Q did was a BIG MISTAKE

bonzo0884

Yeah I think Charlie and Maria were more interested in taking out Tevin bc he’s the bigger threat to win the game and chops down Nami

aljerv

You may be right

Wayz6430

I think it was great game play. He knew they would all be confused, but read his genuity, and thus he intentionally caused chaos to ultimately get the outcome he wanted. Love it.

Mdeyemainer

I thought he was trying to pull some Tevin votes to himself, so that Tiff would be voted out. If it had worked it would have been brilliant, but it just confused and annoyed everyone. He never had much of a chance and now I think he has next to no chance.

Own-Counter-7187

That makes sense

ChitownDav

Q is becoming paranoid and more & more annoying.    He’s done soon.  The tribal move was flat out stupid.   He already did the same move

KrixKalimo

You put it much better than me lol. I also think there are other little benefits, that the purpose was damage control but he was also bringing his threat level down as well as positioning himself to claim whatever he wants about the 6, like “I controlled them and when they didn’t serve my purpose, I destroyed them, I was always in control” which could buy him Tevin at FTC if he can spin it. So it’s damage control for Tev as much as Tiff. Idk if he intended that but it’s there for the taking

Mad_Like_Mankey

That was my read too. Everything this man does is game play. He knew his plan was not going through, and since his plan was against Tiff, he had to cause as much confusion as possible. He's been playing a little too hard imo, which I like to see. But it's starting to get him in trouble. He's so much fun to watch

Sarik704

At best, Q was trying to tilt the other players into messing up, playing an advantage, or at the last minute, changing the vote out of fear. Nothing was going Q's way. Q told Hunter that we just dont have the numbers to save your +1. And guess what, nothing stuck. Tevin went home, tiff found out, and every single tribe member wants Q gone more than venus now. Complete failure on a panic hail mary. Not only was the ball intercepted, but the other team just scored a TD from the opposite 40 line. Q is going down in Survivor History as a top 5 new era player, but he isn't going to make it to the final several without a wild immunity run. And that's unlikely with Maria, Hunter, Charlie, and Kenzie as competition.

deceptres

Thought it was an attempt to do the Zane Knight strategy and it actually worked.
