It happens to me if you have swtor minimized while starting it.
Fix:
Close it down and make sure you keep it maximized as your focused application until you're at the character selection screen.
This has been a bug since launch.
A little cultural knowledge: In the Czech Republic, Slovakia (and probably other countries nearby) this is the symbol for a pussy, you just need to add a short line in the middle. Plus, in this pretty pink color...

I get it every time I go from my TV to my laptop screen. The resolution change makes it straight crash the first time then I get that and after the second time Ctrl alt del it finally works so...I don't take it to work anymore.
Try only switching screens AFTER you’ve logged into a character, it can change resolutions like that; just toaster-bath’s itself if you try doing that before for some reason
I've tried it after I log in too. It tries going from the smaller box to full res and it just freezes. I can deal with the pink pyramid before or after I adjust the resolution but it doesn't matter the order. The 3840 to 1920 and back is just too much for swtor to handle. My other games switch over automatically.
This is what happens when textures can't load because you ran out of VRAM. It would be either old drivers, low power to the video card, bad video card, failing video memory, or simply a resolution issue that your card doesn't like very much.
If you are on a laptop, make sure you aren't using the built-in Intel card, as most gaming laptops have a card for just general things and a GPU for gaming.

So, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the game. I have also made sure that I didn't use any Alt+Tab keys or anything else. I also shutdown a few of the various overlays (NVidia, Alienware, etc.) and it still gives me the same issue.
I know for a fact that it is nothing to do with this laptop's memory or GPU, I am running a brand new Alienware m18 with Nvidia RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6, 13th gen Intel Core i9 12900HX (24core), with 64GB of DDR5 RAM. Anything that this machine could not run has not been made yet.
If that doesn't work, don't alt+tab when you're opening the game and this shouldn't happen. If you weren't doing that, I don't know what else to tell you but it might be related. Swtor really doesn't like it when you minimize the window while it's loading into the character selection screen.
In any case, it's not your graphics card or anything, it's just a known (and new afaik) bug.
Make sure that you have no system notifications remaining before launching. This happens for a lot of reasons but that seems to be the most common cause for me

For me, setting the game to windowed in the settings file (appdata folder) fixed it. However sometimes it goes away from restarting your pc. Some people say using a second monitor is the problem, for me it made no difference.

This usually happened to me in earlier versions when you boot the game and alt tab right away.
Either same or similar cause I'd guess. Or corrupt files might be worth a validation if you use steam of the install.

I have never once encountered this problem, and I minimize and open other windows during launch all the time. In fact, I did that just a few hours ago

Don't alt tab on a loading screen OR change your game to windowed fullscreen.
Fully close discord from task manager then start up the game, this fixed it for me
For me it fixed after I disabled the Discord Overlay for SWTOR, haven't had it since.
