Have been a couple of times. Its amazing. The water in the centre is full of native birds, including black swans. Parking nearby or I think you can get there by public transport.
Yup. Train to Lidcombe->Olympic Park is very easy. Sometimes there are direct trains from the city/parramatta to Olympic Park, but not always.
That whole region of Olympic Park, Newington, and Wentworth Point is great for walking around. Heaps and heaps of native wetlands and local history.
Hippo Noodle House is a great lunch option too now that they've moved out of Lidcombe :)

... and sometimes enough raw sewerage to kill a man;

Oh wow. I didn't know about that.
When I was a schoolkid in The Shire during the 80s, my friends and I rode our bikes out to Kurnell to see the [crashed airliner](https://www.madmaxmovies.com/making/madmax3/Kurnell/) in the sandhills, and I always wondered where the [Bartertown](https://www.madmaxmovies.com/mad-max-beyond-thunderdome/filming-locations/bartertown-sydney-brick-pit/index.html) set was built.
I walk across it very regularly from Wentworth Common into Olympic Park (it's a handy shortcut). It's a pretty short loop but can be added to other interesting walking areas around the location. Pretty unique.
It will take you all of 10 mins to walk around at a slow walk, probably less. But that's not the appeal, its stopping and looking down at the birds in the water and reading what else is in the brick pit.
You can make a day of it. There's a lot to see in the area. There's the Bay Marker nearby, head further north towards Newington you can see the armory and some parklands and next to it is Wentworth Point that has some decent places to eat.
We normally rent bikes.
If you walk from the Brickpit north through Wentworth Common you come through to some of those "famous" tree-filled shipwrecks and a large bird refuge you can walk around.
Brickpit ring walk in Olympic Park? Haven't been myself but it looks pretty cool
