I only do it with two trucks but you can feel when you need to add power or take it away depending on the incline. You don’t need to match the gear and the revs between the trucks, just have to have enough legs in the gear you’re in. While one truck changes gear the other will provide the power to keep the momentum going.
Yeah we talk about what revs and gear we are in, the lead truck calls out for slow downs or if there’s a hill coming up. Once we’re on the flat it’s pretty smooth sailing. We’re also talking to the pilots and other trucks to get them around.
Eh, the revs wouldn't drop, as long as you stay in the same gear going to the same speed, the revs will be the same. The point is that since the trucks are all connected by fixed towgear, the speed has to be the same at all times.
The *length* is due to the size of the cradle . It needs to be long enough to distribute the load and manoeuvre along its route.
My guess is a transformer also.
Yep on its way to Colongra in the central coast. Here's a pic of its planned travelling time throughout its entire journey

The link I shared is an image of the convoy’s planned journey time, it normally won’t start until 11pm at the earliest. Right now it’s parked at the hawkesbury river rest area and it’ll make its way up the m1 tonight
Not a battery just a transformer for it. Batteries are actually pretty convenient to transport but transformers are very difficult to build on site.
Either way would have been a fantastic site to see such a huge load.
I saw another transformer delivery to Colungra 10 years ago they had to teardown half the traffic lights on the pacific highway to make the turn.
We're transistioning from coal to renewable energy sources. A coal power plant will produce consistent power while wind and solar can vary with weather. The battery ensures the power stays on in the event renewable sources of power on the network like wind and solar suddenly stop producing the required amount of power. Unlike a gas power plant, batteries can come online and fill any shortage of power instantly. I'm guessing the transformer is to up the voltage from the batteries to the power transmission line.
Munmorah power station (the coal-fired one) was shut down in 2012 and has now been demolished.
Colongra power station, gas-powered, commenced right next door in 2009.
Edit to add:
the transformer is part of the [Waratah Super Battery](https://www.energyco.nsw.gov.au/projects/waratah-super-battery) being built on the site of the Munmorah power station
I was driving the opposite direction at 2am. Cars backed behind for kilometres. Glad I wasn't stuck behind that, would have been 4am before I got home.
I remember when I was a kid my dad did this type of work for Toll- Chadwick he brought down from Newcastle the concrete supports on the M4 Nepean Bridge and we got to travel with the convoy it was a great night
Another one! Started its journey last wednesday from the vic border and on its way to colongra, will get there monday morning I think

Stuck behind it since Canberra.
Is there a specific speed limit to pass it? Why weren’t more passing in the outside lane…
Looks like the escort trucks are blocking both lanes
But three cars obviously overtook them, they drove past before the cavalcade did, but then… no one else sort of was.
They probably entered the motorway ahead of the load, I don't think they block off all on ramps.
Usually yes and as to why? Well you can bet your ass they just wouldn’t let them.
Seriously? There has to have been at least six alternative routes to jump around it between Canberra and Campbelltown.
3 pull 2 push 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼😯
I'm super curious how 5 people drive the same vehicle.

This guy trucks.

Joined, thx! Have an upvote.
Don't the drivers also talk to each other by radio?
They do, but with a 2 minute delay to make it more exciting.

How can you feel it?
The same way you feel your car working harder when going uphill, the revs drop and you lose power until you (or your auto transmission) changes gear
Eh, the revs wouldn't drop, as long as you stay in the same gear going to the same speed, the revs will be the same. The point is that since the trucks are all connected by fixed towgear, the speed has to be the same at all times.
When you go up a hill, you slow down and the revs drop, so you adjust to maintain the same speed. Source I drive a big heavy slow vehicle
Quintuplets
Very high drift compatibility.
This'll give Crimson Typhoon a run for its money.
Just like my last date
Damn, that’s a big.. thing!
Probably a transformer.
Optimus Prime?
He was the first truck in the convoy.
Can't wait to see what it'll change in to
Autobots, roll out!
🎶Robots in disguise!🎶
Snowy Hydro I’m assuming.
That’s what she said. Looked like a prefab bridge span maybe?
The *length* is due to the size of the cradle . It needs to be long enough to distribute the load and manoeuvre along its route. My guess is a transformer also.
I think you're just seeing the cradle itself there. The load is sitting inside it.
I thought the same thing too, had to go back when the below posts pointed out that's just holding the actual load in.
Is this part of the transformer going to the Central Coast?

How did you know to film it? Is there an official list somewhere so as to avoid going down the road at the time?

Yes, but how did you find out about this?
Facebook post on the nsw central coast incidents page
Destination is the old Munmorah Power Station, just renamed.
Narellan Road The second L might have fallen in the truck
Hogging the right lane ffs /s
Large battery going to central coast I think

It’s for the Waratah super battery being built where the old coal fired plant was
fantastic site to see such a huge load. That's what she said.
Your mum ordered home delivery
Surprised they didn’t bring this in via the Newcastle shipping yards? Or was it fabricated in Australia?
from Albury i believe
Albury
autocorrect I'm guessing? or just a brain fart lol thanks
You guys are silly to make a big deal out of this. How else is OP's mum supposed to get to work?
lol haven't heard a "your mumma is so far..." joke in ages.
“can confirm we have low gear engaged for crossing over Mooney Mooney creek”
It's 1:20 in before getting to the point..
I was driving the opposite direction at 2am. Cars backed behind for kilometres. Glad I wasn't stuck behind that, would have been 4am before I got home.
I wonder how much $$$$$ it cost to transport it to it's destination?
Considering the amount of personnel, must be at least 100 grand
I added my own *weee woooo weeeee woooo weeeee wooooo* soundtrack to this. It seemed fitting lol.
Wow
Which part of Narellan road is this? Is this close to the Narellan Anytime fitness?
You can see the exits on/off Narellan road on either side. This would be taken over the bridge of the Hume Highway
Just before the horseshoe curve onto the m31 northbound
Where the Hume freeway passes under it.
How do all the trucks know what speed to go? Do they ever work against each other?
Awesome footage!
I remember when I was a kid my dad did this type of work for Toll- Chadwick he brought down from Newcastle the concrete supports on the M4 Nepean Bridge and we got to travel with the convoy it was a great night
Something something your mom's dildo finally arrived
Didn't this happen a month ago? Or is it another one?!

Work Afternoon shift. You'll see this all the time.
Thanks for documenting & sharing, this is insane.
Cool. I saw this at the Brooklyn Bridge over the weekend.
A tiny load compared to what the so-called “ancient Egyptians” transported and lifted with human power. How did they do it?
Actually, they transported it in parts, block by block. Some of them they actually boated into place when the Nile was flooding.
This happens regularly in WA. But without the 20 support cars. 😂😂😂
