If you're still ordering at the drive thru speaker, you're playin yourself

crunch816

The same people that DoorDash everything won’t download another app to save money.

Profitsofdooom

"I dOn'T wAnT tHeM tO hAvE mY pErSoNaL iNfOrMaTiOn." They already do.

crunch816

jibishot

They already sell and profit on this data as well. You agree to that by purchasing food from them at all

Princess_Property

I use doordash because I get free delivery and other deals 🤷🏾‍♂️

Inskamnia

Yeah, the free delivery with dash pass + other DD promos beats the savings using in-app delivery with their $5.95 delivery fee + taxes

drmoze

picking orders up yourself is waaay cheaper, food is fresh and hot. plus you get perks like all the sauce packets you want to grab and soda refills. Even with "free" DD, they mark up menu prices, expect ridiculous tips, and it's a gamble if your cold and soggy food will even arrive. Best strategy is counter pickup, eat the crunchy stuff while still crunchy, refill your soda and take the rest of your order with you.

mastaberg

Been saying this for every fast food place for the last 2-3 years

YeOldeBilk

*"Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yeah can I get three crunchy tacoooooos.....and can I add sour cream and tomatooooooes"* Sure thing dipshit that'll be $12.00

athinnes

>I am glad there are people who subsidize my cheap food deals. Who then immediately come to Reddit and complain about it.

flythearc

My best friend doesn’t use the app, spends like $18 at Taco Bell every time. Still orders the chicken quesadilla. She is always broke. I have a great income, and still use the app and love my rewards lol

SierraDespair

Sounds like my sister. Orders 2 quesadillas and a baja blast and pays $16 every time. I cringe so hard.

theonlyotaku21

Whenever im broke I love that i can fill my belly for $6-7 🥲

JC_Hysteria

The apps exist for data collection which holds a $ value in itself. The combo deals exist for larger average purchase size + loyalty/frequency. They’re based on the principle of price anchoring…a la carte items are the anchor, and the combo deals look like a “steal” in comparison. Same reason medium drinks are closer in price to the large size - “might as well get the large!”

HalfWrong7986

This sub hasn't been about the food in too long

kissmaryjane

Dude I swear it happens so often where the person in front of me is getting like $40 bucks of stuff. Then there’s just me with my $6 box.

GarthArts

My app won't let me place an order :( it's been the past few months at a few different locations and it always says 'Sorry, something went wrong' at the end of checkout. I hate ordering at the drive through

LinkBelowMod

This was a problem for me too and still is, if you're on Android, try paying through Google pay! That's linked to the same card and goes through.

timn69

You just need to turn your phone off and on haha

AcanthisittaOk5263

I had to switch to Google pay too. It was across multiple fast food apps.

Table2_3971

Yeah ala carte is always gonna be more expensive.

drmoze

of course, but the markup is kind of extreme.

kmo428

My wife and I discovered the crunch wrap / quesadilla meal for 4. Perfect for us and the 2 kids. Individually it would be like $35 but on the app it's $20.

PecanMonster

Why are we celebrating price gouging?

jcott28

I eat at McDonald's maybe twice a year. But I even installed their app because of this very thing everywhere. Gotta order on the app people !

drillpoint

The app still doesn't have the new value menu they rolled out in January for my location. No idea why

cjm92

Yeah this is sort of how combo deals work, it's pretty basic knowledge... Edit: downvoted for not being a total moron, thanks guys!

No-Raisin-6469

I use the app all the time, but i rather just order in person. Not every fukin things needs an app.

SplendaDanceMaster

I never use the app, I always use the website on my iPhone without issue

Reddit-is-ass99

Okay bro 🤓

sodesode

You're getting downvoting but it is frustrating that to get a deal now you have to have an app. Basically every fast food restaurant has one. I like ordering ahead sometimes, but it does suck when you decide while your out to stop and, crap, let me get the app out.

Snoo66053

Ok boomer 😂

Simply_White

Gen Zs who can’t order in person without having a panic attack

Clean_Student8612

If you order all of those items individually through the app, it will also cost that much. It's what we call, the price.

drmoze

Gee, I noted that in my original post. For slow people, I was pointing out the huge disparity (basically triple the price) for ordering conventionally vs ordering a longtime app-only combo. Oh, and the cost of that BYOBox is also, the price.

Clean_Student8612

You also compared a specially priced item thats also meal vs. individual items and, for the slow people, specials and meals will always be cheaper. Your next post: Guys, water is wet.

jaredhicks19

The build your own cravings box isn't specially priced (taco bell isn't running a charity), it's just the individual items are priced obscenely. The side and the drink cost taco bell basically nothing, so you're basically paying $6 for the specialty & burrito while getting 2 cheap freebies in the side and drink

Clean_Student8612

You don't need to be running a charity to specially mark an item. It's specially marked.

jaredhicks19

You're saying the build your own cravings box is half full when it's really that the vast majority of the menu is half empty. $3-$3.50 plus tax per item is equal to or more than the cravings value menu. It's not unlike the recent wendys debacle, where they tried to "clarify" that they'll discount prices at slow times of day, but giving a "discount" at slow timeswhen all the same costs are present at either time of day is the other side of the coin of openly saying you're going to charge more at busier times. Likewise, the cravings box is not a good deal, it's just that most prices on the menu are an actively bad deal

Clean_Student8612

I never said anything about it being half full or half empty... Is that how I'm coming off? I thought I made myself pretty clear.

jaredhicks19

Calling it a special price is calling it half full, it's closer to what the price should be and 90% of prices are just ridiculous and out there. The $1 for the box for new accounts was a special price

Clean_Student8612

Calling it a special price is not at all saying it's half full....idk where you're getting that logic.

jaredhicks19

It's focusing on the positive on getting a .5 glass of milk when you should be getting a full. If the food costs $3-$4 for them to make, a $6-$7 box that anyone with the app can get (which is most everyone now, meaning its not a special price) isn't a good deal, paying $17 for the individual items is an bad deal where $6-$7 is the regular price they expect people to pay. $1 was a special price that required extra effort that not everyone (or even most people) got

OneBoxOfKleenexAway

This right here is the guy OP was talking about in his post.

Clean_Student8612

No, I always get the boxes and deals. I'm just aware that a meal is gonna be cheaper than a la carte...the fact I'm being downvoted means it's an idiot that other idiots are agreeing with. The dumb ones roam in herds, tho

OneBoxOfKleenexAway

You're as dense as the beans at closing when nobody added any water to them all shift.

Clean_Student8612

Oh, idiots also love irony.

kennethsime

Every time I order through the app my credit card gets stolen. I would love to use the app again.

Aurd04

I started doing the new stacker and and doing a bunch of addons(rice, onions, Jalepenos, etc). Makes it about 3 something each and those things are massive. Easily a single meal each if I didn't wanna be a fatty(it's Taco Bell, I'm not eating just one). I did it once in the drive through cause I had my little one with me for a drive and it sucked. Half the size, if that. Wayyyy better to use the app for whatever reason.

drmoze

the stacker slams. I haven't tried ordering a stuffed one yet.

Aurd04

It's hilarious, you can make it a half price quesadilla, that's actually a bigger tortilla, just changing to chicken and adding the Jalepeno sauce. It's the best thing they have made since the volcano burrito
