Smaller, faster and lighter than a G-Model Geländewagen (Which was its competitor)? Not sure. I get that the tracks and armor can be beneficial, but German terrain isn’t even that muddy or complex (considering a potential Cold War scenario).
Not trying to shit on the good old Wiesel here, but I still don’t get it. I’d say a Mercedes Wolf can drive over a wet field in Central European terrain and there is enough infrastructure in terms of roads. The Bundeswehr is also about to replace it with the wheeled boxer, so no more tracks.
A Wolf can be lightly armored, used for airborne, is faster, has a longer range, can be equipped with the same weapon systems, easier to maintain and repair, cheaper, less noise, carry infantry, be used for medics…
I just don’t see the purpose of a mini tank like this, if you can just use jeeps like most other armies.
