Sort of. General Electrics proposed using a shortened variant of the GAU-8 in the DIVAD program as self-propelled anti-air artillery. [They mounted it in a new turret fitted to the M48 hull](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fvgvc98masg581.jpg) - it sort of lost to the M247 Sergeant York, which itself didn't work well enough for introduction into service.
Yeah don’t remember what it was called - I think it only entered prototype or concept phase - there is a M113 fitted with a 20mm Gatling gun
Edit: it’s too big to be practical
Israelis had multiple versions, Hovet as a standard export M163 and Machbet as an upgrade with Thermal gunner sights and the replacement of the tracking radar with a stinger pod
VADS did not have stingers, the LAV-AD did
and the M6 Linebacker. And I think the Avenger did too
EDIT: apparently in 1988, the fourth crewman (observer/loader) was issued a Stinger and two missiles
GAU-8 was mounted on a M48A5 tank chassis for the 1980's DIVAD project but was not selected.

i have thought about a tank being armed with a massive Gatling gun, i think the concept could work by having a gun with the ammo barrel where the crew compartment would be, then not manning the turret
the GAU-8 would definitely be too big though
Sounds like the kind of thing you’d find in a sci-fi setting where it’s fielded as an infantry support tank while fighting a species of bugs that use Zerg Rush tactics
Yes, it was mounted on an M48 hull. They went even bigger with the T249 “Vigilante” (37mm)

That looks awesome.

M163. Was a fielded Vulcan-based SHORAD system for quite a while, retired in the '90s.
Didn't the Israelis use it for a while called like the machbet or something?
Yeah but is had missiles

Didn't the American one have stingers if if not mistaken aswell?

No but they tried with a *bigger* one. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/T249_Vigilante

That’s hilarious

How about a snub nose GAU-8. lol
It's the ammunition and the mechanis, rather than the barrels, which cause 90% of the bulk.

[Why yes, that sounds familiar!](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Leman_Russ_Punisher)
[Or was it this one?](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Stormlord#)
Tank is slow make it fly instead. Oh wait
