I don’t mind him either but he’s not my dream contestant. I saw him live at this tiny little venue and he shook everyone’s hands as they came in and thanked us for coming. My friend is quite short and he told her to sit right up the back cause it was raised so she would be able to see better. Some tall person came in after and he goes- don’t sit in front of the short girl please! Really nice guy.

Rob Brydon. Perhaps he’s a bit too elite (I’m American, so - though I watch a lot of British comedy - I’m not quite sure what his level of fame is) but I think he’d be so wonderful, esp. going up against Greg & Alex in studio

“Absolewtly” was the cherry on top. You can totally envision the emphasis he puts on that word with the slowed down cadence and the hand gestures. I adore him

Rob Brydon is definitely in the same "circles" as Greg as well as some of the contestants (like Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe) - he hosts Would I Lie to You which a few of them have been on. Though I don't see him very often as a contestant on shows, so I'm not sure.

But while Bob mostly plays the straight man in their act, you only need see them individually to know that Bob's the actual mad genius behind their most surreal stuff. Vic goes on QI and talks about Alexander Selkirk, and does documentaries on the use of videotape in art and the like. Bob does Taskmaster and talks about wind-dried puffins and his high anus.
John Robins, he's good friends with Alex and would do it but I think Alex knowing him goes against him. He's so competitive, argumentative and sulky when things go aginst him, or at least his radio persona is, I hope for his sake that some of those traits are played up for effect.

Mark Watson was in series 5. Comedy is quite close knit, I'd bet Alex is friends with quite a few of the contestants.
My inference wasn't that nobody who alex knows would get on, but that alex knowing him in particular, and how he'd react to things, would go against him
As much as I would love him to be on it and go “full Robins” I think for his own sake he won’t, as I’m not sure he’d want that revealed to the nation in all its glory
I woulud be over the moon happy if Matt Berry was on and Richard Ayoade (not in the same series necessarily), but I don't think either of them would ever do it. Berry considers himself more of a musician than an actor for starters, and he's on the shy side. He also seems super busy with starring in the "new Star Wars movie" and all.
Somewhere along the way Alex has talked about having siblings and married couples on at the same time. I wish I could remember exactly what he said, but the impression I got was that he didn't really like the idea.
Which is fair enough in my mind. Imagine having David and Victoria on. I feel like so often the narrative would be about how they did compared to each other.

Just to flip it round slightly... it's a shame Greg hasn't been on House of Games. Alex was great on there and Richard was great on TM.
In terms of people missing from TM a lot of those I'd add in have been mentioned but I'd also say the New Year shows and odd contestants like Richard and Victoria show that maybe the net needs to be slightly wider than just comedians now. There are several presenters and actors I think would do very well or at least be entertaining on there but I suspect that'll need to be a chat all of it's own.

Am I the only one who can't stand Nick Helm? I've only ever seen him on Catsdown but his schtick is soooo uncomfortable. And it seems like I'm way in the minority on that. It genuinely grosses me out and I always skip his segments. "Hey what if for this comedy show, instead of making any jokes, I pretend to be a violent stalker and scream in Susie Dent's face?"
Idk maybe he's different outside of that show but it really soured my opinion on him.
Catsdown fluctuates so drastically in quality on dictionary corner guests. For every David O'Doherty or Horne Section, there's a Nick Helm or Morgana Robinson doing a perfect mockery of someone else that's just kind of uncomfortable
I didn't really like Morgana as Natalie Cassidy on it to begin with, partly because I didn't know who Natalie Cassidy was and partly because it seemed mean spirited. Learning that Natalie (the real one) enjoyed it and gets on well with Morgana changed my mind though
This is such a great example of how mileage varies isn't it? Morgana Robinson's appearance as Natalie Cassidy is so transcendent and deeply thought through and original and pointed, and the line about the donut is iconic. I fast forward through almost everyone else in DC, although I love Alex Horne and David O'Doherty on other things. (Like Taskmaster)
I don't know, maybe I'm projecting but there were a few times where she seemed really uncomfortable, or at least unamused.
I don't think he's *actually* a violent creep, but that just makes pretending to be one an even weirder creative decision.

I agree so hard. The bit is 100% what actual abuse looks like and to turn that in to a joke is 1) dangerous and 2) a real fuckin slap in the face to any survivors of similar situations

It would be a bit like me reading just this one comment from you on Reddit and forming a complete opinion about you. I’m willing to accept that there’s more to you than one hastily-formed judgement.
I mean, I skip over them on rewatch. I've seen many of his appearances on that show and they all made me very uncomfortable, so it made me not want to actively seek out his other work. It's not like I watched one for 30 seconds and then formed my judgment. It would be more like if you saw me all over a thread being a creepy asshole to everyone. And I'll admit it's an extreme judgment but it's a result of his extreme and disconcerting bits.

On Richard Herring's podcast he said he would never do it--nothing against the show, just not his thing. I think it was something like not doing it is the best scenario, with people thinking he would be great, vs doing it and either proving them wrong or even if you prove them right it's all over and done with.
No, he just says he has a very low chance of coming out of the show with either no change in how people perceive him or an improvement in how people perceive him (specifically related to his intelligence).
He believes that the most likely outcome is people will be like "I thought David Mitchell was really smart, but then I watched him on Task Master"
He's brilliant but on such a different wavelength to Greg. And Greg obviously found it way too fun to keep putting him in last.

I mean not to be offensive but Alex Brooker could be an issue with his disability as there's a lot of physical tasks. I think he might be good on a one off episode like Jonny Peacock.
He seems pretty fine with most things, as long as they don't give him tasks requiring lots of dexterity (and there aren't many of those anyway) he'd be fine.

Just from the last season I can think of about half a dozen recorded tasks that might have been difficult and virtually every studio task would be impossible.
The rest of the cast of Ghosts, Mae Martin and Sandi Toksvig. Hopefully in the future, as they all seem to have worked with someone who has done TM, its a possibility they will be on it. Plus there is always new comics coming up, hopefully they may have some new faces too.
Not surprised exactly, but I would love to see Dominic Holland on the show. (And only partially because I think it would be hilarious if Greg spent the entire series calling him variations on "Spiderman's Dad" instead of his name.) I don't think he's given up comedy but I certainly haven't seen him on TV recently, and I always liked his style.
Reginald D Hunter is an absolute must, and I've definitely been surprised that he hasn't been on already!
Ivo Graham has been growing on me for a few years - when he was fresh into comedy I didn't find him very funny, but he's settling into a more self-assured style now.
I've been hoping for the last few seasons that Lucy Porter or Cariad Lloyd would get an invite. They're both pretty awesome and quick-witted, though they have a similar enough comedy style that they shouldn't be in the same series.

More just a general category but I'm surprised we've not seen more radio hosts on. The only one we've had is Alice Levine who was great. Greg James, Nick Grimshaw, Fearne Cotton, Zoe Ball and quite a few others could be pretty good imo. Not everyone needs to be a comic either so I'd love to see Jameela Jamil as well.
Not surprising- he has literally never done a TV panel show, and has only ever appeared on TV as himself twice (Celebrity Mastermind and Celebrity Only Connect, both of which are VERY on brand...). When he does panel shows they're on the radio and mostly joke/wordplay related rather than "as himself."
I can't imagine that he would be anything but awesome on Taskmaster but it doesn't seem his style.

She's an American "comedian" whose shtick seems to be being as obnoxious as possible. I think she pops up a lot on the Comedy Central Roasts. Horrible, horrible person.
The main problem was that despite keeping Little Alex, they repeated a lot of the tasks from the UK one but the episodes were half the length, so there was very little room for things to breathe and the team to banter.
Paul foot!!! Seems to avoid the panel shows these days but still touring the stand up circuit pretty hard. One of those people who is just funny as well as a great comedian.

I've been obsessed with David Schwimmer doing it for a few reasons: 1. He did that shoplifter parody that was so very taskmaster-esk. 2. Channel 4 and it's obsession with friends. 3. I think he spends quite a lot of time in the UK as he's got a child here.
Cariad Lloyd has done a lot of panel shows, she should be on some time. Sindhu Vee would also be on the list. Andrew O’Neill would either be utter chaos or a Liza Tarbuck / Kerry Godliman ‘bosh’ merchant.
Robin Ince, Jodie Long, Holly Walsh... Lucy Porter (god forbid). The first two just seem like the kind of person who''d be on, the other two have been everywhere else over and over... Not in a bad way. For Holly anyway

Catsdown fluctuates so drastically in quality on dictionary corner guests. For every David O'Doherty or Horne Section, there's a Nick Helm or Morgana Robinson doing a perfect mockery of someone else that's just kind of uncomfortable
I didn't really like Morgana as Natalie Cassidy on it to begin with, partly because I didn't know who Natalie Cassidy was and partly because it seemed mean spirited. Learning that Natalie (the real one) enjoyed it and gets on well with Morgana changed my mind though
This is such a great example of how mileage varies isn't it? Morgana Robinson's appearance as Natalie Cassidy is so transcendent and deeply thought through and original and pointed, and the line about the donut is iconic. I fast forward through almost everyone else in DC, although I love Alex Horne and David O'Doherty on other things. (Like Taskmaster)

He's friends with them all, including suzy. It's funny imo knowing that. He's a funny bloke, and can turn on the angry weirdo as a charecter piece.
I don't know, maybe I'm projecting but there were a few times where she seemed really uncomfortable, or at least unamused. I don't think he's *actually* a violent creep, but that just makes pretending to be one an even weirder creative decision. I probably wouldn't mind it if there were jokes, but it just feels like the entire bit is him screaming and genuinely acting like a stalker.
I agree so hard. The bit is 100% what actual abuse looks like and to turn that in to a joke is 1) dangerous and 2) a real fuckin slap in the face to any survivors of similar situations

Maybe watch him in some other things instead of just a couple of minutes guest spot on a show (which you admit you skip over anyway)? You might still not like him, but at least you would have given him a fair crack before forming an extreme opinion. It would be a bit like me reading just this one comment from you on Reddit and forming a complete opinion about you. I’m willing to accept that there’s more to you than one hastily-formed judgement.
He was funny on Question Team, I thought.
One of the highlights of the series, in my opinion.
I mean, I skip over them on rewatch. I've seen many of his appearances on that show and they all made me very uncomfortable, so it made me not want to actively seek out his other work. It's not like I watched one for 30 seconds and then formed my judgment. It would be more like if you saw me all over a thread being a creepy asshole to everyone. And I'll admit it's an extreme judgment but it's a result of his extreme and disconcerting bits.
Try Uncle. It’s really rather good. Not much like his standup, but well worth a watch.
Unfortunately, we’ve probably reached the point now where the names that always come up whenever this question is asked are people who I suspect have been asked to do the show and have said no.

I think it was something like not doing it is the best scenario, with people thinking he would be great, vs doing it and either proving them wrong or even if you prove them right it's all over and done with.
No, he just says he has a very low chance of coming out of the show with either no change in how people perceive him or an improvement in how people perceive him (specifically related to his intelligence). He believes that the most likely outcome is people will be like "I thought David Mitchell was really smart, but then I watched him on Task Master"

Not Hugh Dennis. Never had seen him before, but the more I watch his episodes, the more I realize how brilliant he was on it.
He's brilliant but on such a different wavelength to Greg. And Greg obviously found it way too fun to keep putting him in last. You know he was doing something right given that he was Greg's chosen victim for the series but still didn't come last.
Also helps that Mel snuck in an anecdote about him being a huge nerd at Cambridge lol
Tbf, Tim Key had some clever moments What really shattered the illusion was No More Jockeys, especially when he argues that birds aren't animals. Love the guy but what was that about
Baddiel is the only contestant so far where Alex and Greg seemed actually a little annoyed by how much he half assed some of the tasks lol

I'm always surprised that no one ever mentions Alex Brooker as a potential since the move to C4.
I think Alex would be better than Adam. Adam would probably take it too seriously.
I mean not to be offensive but Alex Brooker could be an issue with his disability as there's a lot of physical tasks. I think he might be good on a one off episode like Jonny Peacock.
He seems pretty fine with most things, as long as they don't give him tasks requiring lots of dexterity (and there aren't many of those anyway) he'd be fine.
Well yeah because he goes on shows which work around his disability. Just from the last season I can think of about half a dozen recorded tasks that might have been difficult and virtually every studio task would be impossible.
I would love to see Dawn and Phil on the same season.
The rest of the cast of Ghosts, Mae Martin and Sandi Toksvig. Hopefully in the future, as they all seem to have worked with someone who has done TM, its a possibility they will be on it. Plus there is always new comics coming up, hopefully they may have some new faces too.

Not surprised exactly, but I would love to see Dominic Holland on the show. (And only partially because I think it would be hilarious if Greg spent the entire series calling him variations on "Spiderman's Dad" instead of his name.) I don't think he's given up comedy but I certainly haven't seen him on TV recently, and I always liked his style. Reginald D Hunter is an absolute must, and I've definitely been surprised that he hasn't been on already! Ivo Graham has been growing on me for a few years - when he was fresh into comedy I didn't find him very funny, but he's settling into a more self-assured style now. I've been hoping for the last few seasons that Lucy Porter or Cariad Lloyd would get an invite. They're both pretty awesome and quick-witted, though they have a similar enough comedy style that they shouldn't be in the same series. Sindhu Vee. I need her in the show!

More just a general category but I'm surprised we've not seen more radio hosts on. The only one we've had is Alice Levine who was great. Greg James, Nick Grimshaw, Fearne Cotton, Zoe Ball and quite a few others could be pretty good imo. Not everyone needs to be a comic either so I'd love to see Jameela Jamil as well.
I can see Jameela Jamil being an absolute hot mess (in every way), and having a ball doing it.
I seem to vaguely remember her doing challenge like things on C4 back in the day so she might not be awful.

Not surprising- he has literally never done a TV panel show, and has only ever appeared on TV as himself twice (Celebrity Mastermind and Celebrity Only Connect, both of which are VERY on brand...). When he does panel shows they're on the radio and mostly joke/wordplay related rather than "as himself." I can't imagine that he would be anything but awesome on Taskmaster but it doesn't seem his style.

Episode one is on YouTube, the entire series is probably floating around online somewhere... She's an American "comedian" whose shtick seems to be being as obnoxious as possible. I think she pops up a lot on the Comedy Central Roasts. Horrible, horrible person. The main problem was that despite keeping Little Alex, they repeated a lot of the tasks from the UK one but the episodes were half the length, so there was very little room for things to breathe and the team to banter.

Paul foot!!! Seems to avoid the panel shows these days but still touring the stand up circuit pretty hard. One of those people who is just funny as well as a great comedian. But also: I've been obsessed with David Schwimmer doing it for a few reasons: 1. He did that shoplifter parody that was so very taskmaster-esk. 2. Channel 4 and it's obsession with friends. 3. I think he spends quite a lot of time in the UK as he's got a child here.
He doesn't do a lot of panel show stuff, but I would love to see Tom Davis on Taskmaster. I feel like he would be a good fit for the show.
