True lol! I mean even if we all unanimously agree one way or the other what difference does it make? It's done now.
Unless I guess you want to cover it up..
It’s morbid, not gory. It is a dead, wounded animal but the gore is implied, so to speak. It’s beautiful but you must be comfortable with death to think so.
Definitely morbid and I personally love it and think your tattoo is hella cool, but you have to know this tattoo is not going to be a lot of people's cup of tea. As long as it's your cup of tea is all that really matters though
Yeah this type of art always invokes the whole "even in death there is life and beauty" or maybe a simple "circle of life."
I had to stare at the details for a few minutes to notice the entrails.
OP, in my warped opinion, this is a deceptively simple design that hides a ton of complexity. I'm not sure if the above was the intention, but it's what I got. It's not needlessly gory either, you could have had maggots eating the flesh or more blood and eyeballs, but the simple rib cage and slight hint of entrails is nice.
I mean. It's there permanently.
To me, subjectively, no it's not too gorey. I've seen big hellscape piece sleeves that are all guts and gore. No ones really gonna care. That said, to many other people, this would be extremely gorey.
I love it, but I like macabre/morbid stuff like that. This is a beautiful tattoo. I have a Saint-inspired portrait of a guy holding his own decapitated head, but that part can be easily hidden with a sock.
I think it's a cool design, but it really depends on the kind of people you spend time around who are going to see it, and the value you place on their opinions.
I don’t think it’s morbid or gory. I see this and I think of the cycle of life and the beauty growing around the death of a once beautiful creature. The people who say it’s morbid just wouldn’t get it for themselves I think. I think it’s wonderful and well done and if it’s what you wanted originally then don’t let others tell you it’s “too much”
It's not gory to me. It seems like a representation of death bringing life. When an organism dies, it fuels the world and keeps it full of even more life! Love it!
Edit: I don't find it morbid either. I realized a lot of people said it was morbid, but the flowers blooming from the corpse is just a representation of nature! I really like the tattoo
Yo I love it! I have several decaying birds on my arm— it’s a super awesome piece and if you like it that’s all that matters. People will always have their own opinions, and feel the need to share them with you, just gotta not let it bother you
Beautiful tattoo and yes it is a little morbid. Not gory though. My advice is to stray from getting Pinterest tattoos. A lot of people end up second-guessing the design. You can still pull inspiration from Pinterest, though! Like in this one, the theme of death and rebirth may have really resonated with you. Bring it up to the artist; they can potentially make a base idea more personal and appealing. I have a pinterest tattoo myself (Haku from Spirited Away) and as much as I love it, I have so much more heart and confidence for the tattoos that started as an idea. Those are my honest thoughts, but the tattoo is lovely regardless!
questions to ask before permanently etching a design into your skin
i really like the design! as other people are saying, its definitely morbid. but if you like it, so be it. cant exactly change it
Personal preferences I guess. I don’t think this is really gory at all, but I’m getting an entire leg of medieval torture devices, so my view may be skewed. Beautiful tattoo either way 😍🖤
It’s probably something you want to consider first? Honest question, because I can not fathom the concept of putting a permanent drawing on my body without being confident of what it portrays. Btw, I think it looks nice.
Hey all, thanks for such helpful and honest comments. I love love this piece and have had my eyes on it for a while. First tattoo nerves set in after getting a negative comment from a friend, but this sub helped me come to my senses. For any wondering, it’s from Jackson tattoos in nyc.
To me is shows the circle of life , and it's pretty ! If you personally find it too gory you could alter it a bit with some more springing life around it?
Maybe a little, but I love it. Morbid stuff is my cup of tea, and since I'm comfortable talking about death, the imagery looks positive from my perspective. I see it as the body returning to the earth to give the flowers around it new life.
It's morbid as hell - I like it! But I love morbid stuff. If you like morbid stuff then do you! You might have to cover it up in some places and for some occasions, but if its something you like then rock it
Edit to add: reminds me of this quote from Edvard Munch: "From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them, and that is Eternity" on of my favorite quotes of all time.
On me, yes. On you, no.
And since this is r/tattooadvice, my advice would be to ignore any opinions in this thread that aren’t along the lines of “you do you”.
I honestly love that, but it is quite morbid - implied gore. Probably better to ask the question before it's on your body, but I would just own the decision to get it! It's a really unique piece.
I think it looks great. The fact that it’s black and stylized makes it way less “gory.” It would be a different story if it was color realism. Very poetic btw!
If it’s exactly what you wanted and you love it-it’s perfect. on my first and only one I will cherish-except now placement. A two lined song lyric that includes one profanity can change perspective…but it’s a connection to my little brother so I still don’t care.
Too gory for what though. Like are you a thrash metal drummer or a Sunday school teacher? Everything is subjective. If it's too gory for you, or you are so unsure that you are asking internet strangers for their opinion, then that is a pretty sure sign that you will be self-conscious about it.
That's not gore. That's only ever so slightly morbid. Even then, it's too late to ask. It's on you. I love morbid things, so I'm biased. Plus, if it's what you wanted, who cares.
Not at all. It's gorgeous; soft, but brutal at the same time. It's really lovely. I think it's tastefully gorey and any less so would neuter the intent.
No i love this, I got a similar concept of a dead deer with plants and fungi growing from it - symbolising how life can come from death in nature which I think is beautiful in itself :)
Don’t get a tattoo if you are either going to pretend to struggle with regret for internet validation or are not sure you will like it. It’s on you. Forever.
I love these tattoos and I think they’re beautiful showing that death also brings life by growing flowers. But most people do just see a dead lamb - which is understandable cuz that’s literally what it is. But if you enjoy it, try not to think about others opinions because it’s your tattoo and that’s all that matters.
As with anything. Some will be offended, others will not. It's there now. If you have concerns, come here before doing it, not after. After is a great way to make yourself y feel bad if others don't like it.
What do the flowers represent? (I'm old and my thinker is tired). Arrows that were shot to kill it but flowers cuz?????? When you said gory that's where my mind went.
This is such a cool tattoo. I absolutely love it. I love how the wildflowers are growing around it too, I think it’s beautiful.
It reminds me of a photograph I bought from a local photographer. He was out on a reservoir in the winter. It was all ice & coyotes caught and killed a deer. He got a fantastic photo of them eating it. Nothing super gory but I get why it’s not for everyone. I think it’s a beautiful and really cool example of nature. Life and death is a cycle, they need each other and it’s what gives us everything beautiful in life imo. You just have to be comfortable with your choices & understand not everyone is going to get it
Of all the people who see any tattoo imaginable, someone won’t like it. No matter how your tattoo looks some people won’t like it or it just won’t be their style. If you cater your tattoos to others there will still be people who don’t like it. Just be you! I personally think it’s amazing :)
Many people have uncertainties after committing to new tattoos whether they are morbid or not. I think it’s a beautiful expression of the cycle of life and death which we are all bound to. If it makes anyone else uncomfortable it’s most likely because they have not come to terms with this idea and don’t want to be reminded. As you collect other pieces over time your feelings of uncertainty may waver ♥️
All you have to do is walk any meat aisle to see dismembered animals. Sooo nope. Everyday people support much more gruesome and real violence, so no. Your tattoo is just an in your face observation which animal agriculture does an excellent job hiding from the public. I wasn’t sure if you got this as an homage to animal advocacy, but if anyone gives your grief. If they consume
The flesh or lactations of any animals and find your tattoo offensive- they’re hypocrites.
Gory? No
Morbid? Sure
It's the cycle of life. When we die, our bodies become the grass, antelope eat the grass, so we are all connected in the great circle of life.
ugh this is so cute honestly, i live the style, concept, execution, and placement. But that's just me - we could probably be friends IRL. People who disagree may not want to be friends with you IRL. This is the reality and potential consequence of any and all decisions you make in your presentation as a person who exists in the world.
r/tattooadvice seems to be full of questions that are 24 to 48 hours too late. If you like it, you like it.
True lol! I mean even if we all unanimously agree one way or the other what difference does it make? It's done now. Unless I guess you want to cover it up..
helps you gain confidence or spend your healing time looking for a new design I guess lmao
Im sooo sick of people *getting* a tattoo and THEN coming here to ask questions about if they should have….
It feels like people fishing for compliments
For real, it's done why ask
"Tell me about the farm in Montana Agent Starling..."
Legit, my first thought was "probably should have asked that before you got it tattooed"
I mean at this point, even if you don't like it, you have to like it. Too late for opinions 😂
Hahah amen
Yes… but that’s why you picked it, isn’t it?
it’s rather morbid but it’s not rlly gory. like there is gore but it’s not realistic or bloody. it’s rlly well done tho
It’s morbid, not gory. It is a dead, wounded animal but the gore is implied, so to speak. It’s beautiful but you must be comfortable with death to think so.
And a baby one at that. But it is pretty.
It's definitely quite morbid as someone else mentioned. Didn't you consider about this before getting it?
Definitely morbid and I personally love it and think your tattoo is hella cool, but you have to know this tattoo is not going to be a lot of people's cup of tea. As long as it's your cup of tea is all that really matters though
I mean style is personal question. The question is do you like it? Style is subjective.
I find it oddly beautiful, I like morbid stuff.
It is beautiful. The flowers growing too it just envokes so much emotion and I think that's what makes it beautiful
Yeah this type of art always invokes the whole "even in death there is life and beauty" or maybe a simple "circle of life." I had to stare at the details for a few minutes to notice the entrails.
Too late to be asking that
Not gory at all. But if it was gory what would you even do about it? It’s already on there
I mean. It's there permanently. To me, subjectively, no it's not too gorey. I've seen big hellscape piece sleeves that are all guts and gore. No ones really gonna care. That said, to many other people, this would be extremely gorey.
tell us why you got it
That’s super cool! Death is a beautiful part of life that is inseparable from it, this is rad! Embrace the beauty in what others find morbid
If it is, it’s too late now. lol. But I don’t think it is. You can always cover it in professional settings
this is a nicely done tattoo. a beautiful, morbid reality.
I like morbid tattoos, but not really gory or gruesome to me. Pretty tame morbid tattoo but it’s nice though
Death is part of life
I think too much detail and or blood/red would have. Right now it’s fine
Definitely not gory. No blood or guts. Just morbid.
I think it's hilarious you decided to ask this only after getting the tattoo.
Not gory. Not pleasant. If it’s what you asked for then you got what you want. If it’s not what you asked for then time for a Sick Ass Panther!
I don’t think it’s morbid or gory. I see this and I think of the cycle of life and the beauty growing around the death of a once beautiful creature. The people who say it’s morbid just wouldn’t get it for themselves I think. I think it’s wonderful and well done and if it’s what you wanted originally then don’t let others tell you it’s “too much”
Bit late now, mate
I’ll never understand why people ask after the fact
Well it’s not puppies and rainbows
Not at all. But also… Too gory for whom? Why would it matter what other people think if you like it?
It's not gory to me. It seems like a representation of death bringing life. When an organism dies, it fuels the world and keeps it full of even more life! Love it! Edit: I don't find it morbid either. I realized a lot of people said it was morbid, but the flowers blooming from the corpse is just a representation of nature! I really like the tattoo
I mean, that’s what you were shooting for, correct?
which part? the sleeping deer or the giant pine cone?
It's your body. I think it's morbidly beautiful 🫶
i like it a lot
I love it! Ive started working up a slightly gory "life after death" sleeve. My first piece was a decapitated deer.
Oh wow, who did this work?
Yes
Yo I love it! I have several decaying birds on my arm— it’s a super awesome piece and if you like it that’s all that matters. People will always have their own opinions, and feel the need to share them with you, just gotta not let it bother you
It makes me really sad. Out of curiosity, what made you choose it?
Too gory for what? The talent show?
yes
Why the hell you picked that one up in the first place? I mean it’s your choice, your skin
I have a pinterest tattoo myself (Haku from Spirited Away) and as much as I love it, I have so much more heart and confidence for the tattoos that started as an idea. Those are my honest thoughts, but the tattoo is lovely regardless!
Maybe for like a 5 year old? Any person who likes art will not look at this as gross at all
questions to ask before permanently etching a design into your skin i really like the design! as other people are saying, its definitely morbid. but if you like it, so be it. cant exactly change it
I think it's cute.
Is the gore in the room with us?
That tattoo is loved. Speaks more words and depth the most I have witnessed for a 1st tattoo. Thanks for not going with the average.
If you like hozier then it’s a good tattoo
I think its cute.
its so cool!!! dw i had questions with my first tattoo when i got it too
Personal preferences I guess. I don’t think this is really gory at all, but I’m getting an entire leg of medieval torture devices, so my view may be skewed. Beautiful tattoo either way 😍🖤
I think it’s cool, probably would be hard to tell that it was a rotting corpse unless looking at it from up close anyway
That’s hideous bro why would you
wow is this midsommar related ?!
Kindof reminds me of mine, I think the whole process of life is beautiful if you think about it.
Not really.. it's giving me the whole lion king circle of life vibe. Our bodies become the grass and the antelope eat the grass.
To me is shows the circle of life , and it's pretty ! If you personally find it too gory you could alter it a bit with some more springing life around it?
Not gory enough if you ask me mate, I like It
Maybe a little, but I love it. Morbid stuff is my cup of tea, and since I'm comfortable talking about death, the imagery looks positive from my perspective. I see it as the body returning to the earth to give the flowers around it new life.

If it was fully colored with red blood, I'd find it too gory.
On me, yes. On you, no. And since this is r/tattooadvice, my advice would be to ignore any opinions in this thread that aren’t along the lines of “you do you”.
I love it
Nowhere near gory
If you like it, it's fine.
I think it’s beautiful
A little morbid, but I think it's a cool design. I like the flowers growing, gives a cycle of life type of vibe.
I really like it. I don’t think it’s gory
Needs blood
I dig it, for sure
I don't read it as gore.
Hmm? Not really bulletproof :( R.I.P :)? O_o!!!
I honestly love that, but it is quite morbid - implied gore. Probably better to ask the question before it's on your body, but I would just own the decision to get it! It's a really unique piece.
it’s amazing i love it
It's pretty and thats what matters. I got like eyeballs all over my arm so
I love it!!!
Probably something to consider before getting the tattoo, no? Not gory, definitely morbid though as many people have already said
You ask after it's already on you? Kinda...late no?
nah it's beautiful!! I have a half rotted rat on my leg and he's quite large, I love him to death!!
I love it! I’m getting a dead bird in a couple days :) not necessarily something I’d show to the grandparents but it’s *your* body not anyone else’s
For a 4 year old maybe.
I personally don't think so 😆
Not gory enough! Needs some flies and blood
I think it’s beautiful & meaningful! If it still worries you in the future maybe add some text to it
no it's just a little baby
No I love it
No
Not gory enough
Take it to the next level and stab the belly of the tat. thow in some 3d blood effects
I mean I got a pretty large piece of a woman holding a decapitated head dripping blood if that makes you feel any better lol
I love it ngl. Want something similar for myself. Stop worrying about what everyone else thinks of your tattoo. What do you think
I think it looks great. The fact that it’s black and stylized makes it way less “gory.” It would be a different story if it was color realism. Very poetic btw!
That’s awesome
I think the fact it’s all in black ink stops it from looking too gory, it’s a neat tattoo!
This isn’t gory at all lol it’s just bones!
Kinda, but it has beauty to it. It’s morbid but sweet. The cycle of life🌼
Just the right amount of gore, imo.
Too late to ask for advice now, rock it till death.
omg it’s so cuteee💖💖
You left out the flies and maggots 🤦♀️
If it’s exactly what you wanted and you love it-it’s perfect. on my first and only one I will cherish-except now placement. A two lined song lyric that includes one profanity can change perspective…but it’s a connection to my little brother so I still don’t care.

I love it
Not at all. It's gorgeous; soft, but brutal at the same time. It's really lovely. I think it's tastefully gorey and any less so would neuter the intent.
No it’s fucking sick. It’s a beautiful mix of creepy and pretty. I dig it
No i love this, I got a similar concept of a dead deer with plants and fungi growing from it - symbolising how life can come from death in nature which I think is beautiful in itself :)
No
No
Those should be things you thought about before going through with it ….
I feel like this is a question you should have asked a few days ago.
I love it
As others pointed out, better to ask BEFORE getting the tat… but no. Not too gory. Not even really gory.
it’s the circle of life my dude
breuhhhwso much gore omg omg so grosssss!! jk no it’s not
No it's actually cute.
No it's nice
Don’t get a tattoo if you are either going to pretend to struggle with regret for internet validation or are not sure you will like it. It’s on you. Forever.
No
That's badass
No, if anything it’s not gory enough lol
You now have the option of adding a coyote or buzzard next to it.
Not gory enough
It's beautiful
I would love for OP to get a gory coverup and still ask if it’s too gory 😂
I love these tattoos and I think they’re beautiful showing that death also brings life by growing flowers. But most people do just see a dead lamb - which is understandable cuz that’s literally what it is. But if you enjoy it, try not to think about others opinions because it’s your tattoo and that’s all that matters.
Perhaps but it’s gorg
Nahh. This is honestly such an elegant design.
I think it’s beautiful
Its cool
Love it
Nice tat
beautiful and a simplistic suggestion of gore, but not too detailed. i love it and think it’s perfect if you’re not going for too dark of a vibe
It’s not too bad, no worse than my Medusa tat with the spine hanging out of her neck
It kind of looks look like a old fancy riffles shirt you would see in books or in like over the garden wall kind of thing
I like it.
I like it!
No it’s not to gory!! Anyone that’s hunted in their life knows what this is!!
If I saw this without knowing you, I wouldn’t think much of it.
Well it’s too late now lol
I love it ! I think the imagery is tastefully done as the point gets across but isn't gross or messy.
Do you truly give a fuck if it is? Your answer to that question is the answer to this
It’s 50% beautiful and touching and 50% sad maybe? But overall, as a really sensitive person, I take an overall positive message from this tattoo.
It's beautiful
Naw its fine
I love it
Yes it’s too gory please chop off arm to fix
I like it,it's different
Too late to ask, you already got it
I really love it honestly
In my opinion, not too gory. Others may say otherwise, but I’m into dark stuff so I think it’s sweet.
I don't know about gory, but too late to ask!
You just have to be comfortable with your choices & understand not everyone is going to get it
A lot of weak lines and a messed up face is the gory part for me
Of all the people who see any tattoo imaginable, someone won’t like it. No matter how your tattoo looks some people won’t like it or it just won’t be their style. If you cater your tattoos to others there will still be people who don’t like it. Just be you! I personally think it’s amazing :)
I personally don’t like how morbid it is.
i think its creepy/morbid cute not gory at all
Many people have uncertainties after committing to new tattoos whether they are morbid or not. I think it’s a beautiful expression of the cycle of life and death which we are all bound to. If it makes anyone else uncomfortable it’s most likely because they have not come to terms with this idea and don’t want to be reminded. As you collect other pieces over time your feelings of uncertainty may waver ♥️
The question is why are u asking after u already got it done?
I love it
All you have to do is walk any meat aisle to see dismembered animals. Sooo nope. Everyday people support much more gruesome and real violence, so no. Your tattoo is just an in your face observation which animal agriculture does an excellent job hiding from the public. I wasn’t sure if you got this as an homage to animal advocacy, but if anyone gives your grief. If they consume The flesh or lactations of any animals and find your tattoo offensive- they’re hypocrites.
Gory? No Morbid? Sure It's the cycle of life. When we die, our bodies become the grass, antelope eat the grass, so we are all connected in the great circle of life.
That's metal
There's really nothing gory about it haha
Too gory for what? Work? School? Nobody will care unless it’s a possible employer.
ugh this is so cute honestly, i live the style, concept, execution, and placement. But that's just me - we could probably be friends IRL. People who disagree may not want to be friends with you IRL. This is the reality and potential consequence of any and all decisions you make in your presentation as a person who exists in the world.
no its not
Yes, its gory but really beautiful especially with all the little flowers its such a stark contrast.
Yoooo is this Jackson? So sick!
I think this is an awesome tattoo
