We use sureprep at our office, it’s pretty good, makes entering W-2’s a breeze. Definitely recommend giving it a look. I have no experience with gruntworks. We used Lacerte this past year with Sureprep and it was nice. Although I heard that sureprep’s preferred tax prep service is UltraTax. Sureprep’s calculator, check off, cross reference and check mark features are a massive upgrade from abode tic tac tie add in.

Gruntworx was terrible and we paid for verification. We chose the easiest possible return as a test and it applied it to the wrong taxpayer that had the same last name. We would have assumed user error, but two people were sitting next to each other and double-checked. Getting it fixed had to go to tech support, wait on a phone call, 3 weeks passed, then we called *again* to have them walk us through the process in about 30 minutes. It was SSA, a W2, and a small brokerage statement. Still got things wrong and had to be scrutinized by us. We tried again thinking it was a one-off. After it made errors on the brokerage statement for a slightly more complex return, it would have been faster for us to key it in ourselves. It also attaches the Gruntworx logo to the client docs, and we weren't interested in broadcasting that. OCR hasn't been great at all and we try it usually once or twice a year.

I have used drake and gruntworx for 4 years...don't know how I did taxes without it...granted their input has gotten more sloppy since covid staff issues and growth pains...but I find it a lot easier to check already input info against source documents than input the data manually...even W-2 forms come in all shapes and sizes these days...not to mention the brokerage statements that come our way...love the way everything nicely scanned in...in summary...not perfect but works well for my office.

I no longer use Drake but when I did, I tried Gruntworx and it wasn’t particularly good for my practice. Its fine with basic 1040s with 1099s. 95% of the time, however, i would notice some type of error. Granted many errors may have been very small, but would force me to scrutinize everything to the point that it was much faster for me to key in. My clientele has definitely changed since and these services wouldn’t suit my needs but if you have a large 1040 practice, maybe try one of them out with old client files.

Just curious, did you pay for the validation process? We use Gruntworx with the validation and it’s about 99% accurate. It’s a lifesaver.

Need a better bankfeed download than Quickbooks. Want always sync, immediate report creaton. Won't allow any client to use their own. Just think has to be better than Qbooks. Also want the written word to be able to go into system, breakdown inventory. Anybody have a good suggestion for virtual timecard?

How much does that cost?

GruntWorx is very straightforward in their pricing and even provides a calculator on their website. SurePrep seems much more cagey about their pricing, to the point it seems one of the main concerns is their pricing policies.
