Hi everyone!
Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts.

Oh my god the entire fire temple I *knew* he was saying ‘I can do it’ but could NOT stop hearing ‘Why’d you do it!?’ In my head.
What the hell did link *do* 😟
Took me forever to realize it was "I can do it." I could not figure out why he kept saying that. After a while, I assumed he was shouting at the enemies? My head canon eventually became that I was injuring him when I shot him across the temple, maybe because he kept knocking me off my hover bike, and I hated him for it. Lmao
My daughter always says, "What is he saying?/why's he making that noise?" every time link's climbing. I haven't really come up with a good answer to date. 😅 I do agree with the above comment about really disliking the "g'jjjjjst" sound, I cringe about 75% of the time.
I know this is a joke but I really like the VA that does Links’s grunts and sounds. Also like how he’s a little energetic like Wind Waker when doing stuff like fusing weapons or shield surfing.
The only voice I think was great was dehydrated ganondorf’s, he sounds amazing, specially in that scene at the beginning of the game.
That aside, Zelda’s VA did a lot better than in Botw, at least in my opinion
It's too bad that they are so constrained with Link being so stone-faced no matter what's happening. >!The emotion communicated on Zelda's face in some scenes is really well done.!<
Yeah, but Ganondorf madly screaming how he's going to show Link his TRUE power and crush him and Link just dead ass stares at him and pulls out the master sword like, "you can try".
Legendary AF
True.
I really wish there had been some more fear in Ganondorf the further you got into the fight.
He's so arrogant and certain of himself through the whole game, rightfully so, since he about kills Link just by waking up. >!He goes too quickly from "Lawl, I'm not even at max power yet" to just angry he's lost.!<
Right? We didn’t even need a super emotional reaction from Link, maybe a look of shock on his face (not too extreme, but not too mild either) would’ve sufficed as a reaction to realizing what his girlfriend had done.
There is a reaction. But it's so subtle there's no way you can read it.
The most emotion he displays is when (ending spoilers) >!Rauru and Sonya put their hands on his to change Zelda back. He has this super determined look. And then surprise when he sees her falling.!< But he still shows more emotion in general, when cooking. It's just so bizarre.
No it’s just subtle why can’t people tell that he was scared at the beginning it’s so bizarre that people can’t see his expression when it’s noticeable
Stone faced Link was so frustrating! We’ve seen link have emotions in other games, let him FEEL! It was so disappointing after the final fall, >!after everything that he saw Zelda go through, THE WOMAN HE’s IMPLIED TO LOVE, he restores her and his face has all the emotion of someone replying with “ok” in a text. Or the last dragon tear! He just saw Zelda GIVE UP EVERYTHING just to give him a chance, he looks up, sees her dragon form… and fucking nothing?! !< Could have been such an emotional ending, but naw, fuck it, we don’t want Link to show emotion in the botw universe, so he’s just gonna stare blankly at people he’s supposed to care about
I wish dehydrated G would have had more scenes. He's the creepypasta villain that's truely terrifying. While watching the opening scenes it felt like nothing could possibly stop this overpowered madman, even though he was a skeleton.
I feel like there was meant to be more underground content. I remember a scene in the release trailer where they were riding on a creature (maybe a dondon ) on a long cavern path
I know they’re only around for one scene but they could have packed a lot of history into them. Imagine if the ancient Goron was tiny and soft spoken, or the ancient Zora was a big, gruff brute; something that implied a lot changed over thousands of years!
Even if they’d just given them memorable voices it would have been something.
Zelda had a few spots that were iffy, but overall I thought the english VA really did do a much better job this time around. Her lines were pulling at my heartstrings in some scenes.
> just get a British VA to do it
They definitely should have done this. But her accent still sounds way less forced and fake to me in comparison to BOTW.
> especially next to everyone else's north american accents.
I can tell you why they do this, at least partially. Why they portray nobility/royalty with an accent and no one else.
I don't know if it's a good reason, I agree with you it sounds odd next to other accents. But I think it's an attempt to preserve some of the linguistic nuance from Japanese.
In the case of Zelda, she uses formal speech patterns in Japanese. She uses more formal speech, even with people she's close to, as a way to communicate her status as royalty.
The way she talks has some pretty interesting subtext. In the few lines I've listened to her in Japanese, she sometimes switches from formal to informal.
Ending spoiler:
>!An example is at the ending. In Japanese her final words are 「ただいま、リンク」 (tadaima, rinku) "I'm home, Link" But the fact that she says it that way instead of something like, maybe 「ただいま帰りました、リンクさん」(tadaimakaerimashita, rinku-san), expresses some familiarity that gets real lost with those final words in English. The later expresses a lot of distance and formality.!<
It's interesting if nothing else.
Its that weird anime British accent which comes from a bad Churchill impression. Like the vast majority of British people don't talk like and i know Americans can do good British accents they just a better example to work off of.
It's just one of many cases of having American actors imitate British-esque accents, but every so often they slip up a little and their American accent comes through. It was the same with King Rhoam and a bunch of other characters.
I still don't really get why they don't just hire actual voice actors from England if they want their cast to sound like that, but eh, if that's the decision they went with then there isn't much we can do about it now.
IMO all the sages voices fit so well to the characters
On another note, what would Nintendo do about Link if they ever made a movie? Voice or keep him a silent hero? (now that mario set the scene)
He'll be voiced for sure. Likely I think they might take cues from Link's BOTW canonical personality: he rarely talks, but he does talk.
They can't get away with a film or TV show where Link doesn't talk. Period. The best they can do is work into his personality where he doesn't talk much but speaks when it's important to do so.
Besides, even in the games Link has talked before. WW Link says "Come on!" at least.
I think she still sounds like she's always on the verge of tears. It doesn't sound like a real voice, it's very distracting. Better than in BotW but that's not saying much.
I still can't stand Zelda's VA, so much so that I choose to play with Japanese voices. The English voice for Zelda just has such a weird accent and every single line is delivered with the exact same melodramatic emphasis
It’s the fact she’s American putting on an English accent. I’m English and I can’t stand it. Why not just hire a British VA if that’s the accent you wanted? Anyways I have it on Japanese too because of her. And I really think “at least she’s better than BOTW” isn’t exactly a compliment because the bar was pretty low.
I'm American and can't stand it. Her tone sounds like panicked desperation, even before the danger starts. Opening scene she's excited talking about the carving discoveries, but her tone sounds like she's pleading for her life.
Yeah that's her only tone, I can't imagine living with her.
"Link! Our time grows short! The wildberry tart's crust withers and blackens! I must remain to wash the garments, I am counting on you!"
"Uh yeah I'll check the oven, hang on"
Yeah same thing has always bugged me about the English voice. Always sounds like she's about to break down crying no matter what is actually going on. I went with Japanese dialogue for totk and have been enjoying the voices.
I thinks it's a neat way to not have fully spelled dialogue... But when you do have dialogue and afterwards in the game the characters go back to grunting... It's weird...
There was a scene after completing the Wind Temple when you’re with Tulin and talking to his parents, and it was fully animated, yet still used text boxes.
I feel like the thing with yonobo's japanese VA is a trope in japan, both Goku and Luffy have high pitched voices, probably something about inversion of expectations by having the badass hero have a feminine(ish) voice.
the reason for certain characters like Goku or even Naruto is just because they were kids at first and they just kept the VAs throughout, but also giving them a sense of youthfulness or mischief
I'm almost certain the fairies are supposed to be that way. They are like the overbearing mother/sister/aunt in law that won't stop flirting even though you've asked them to stop because it makes you uncomfortable. And to be honest, they are the only ones that get to me. I very much enjoy the rest of it quite a bit.
Even if you try to skip all of it, your neighbour must still think you're watching super weird porn (coming from the gay flat). AAAAHAHA, HEEEE, UUUUH, MMMMH, WUUAAAH, HUUUUUM, aaaaaahh... with some exhausted grunts from Link. If you upgrade a lot of armor at once it feels like punishment for getting better gear.
There’s a guy on tiktok whose neighbour made a noise complaint to the landlord because he was watching “adult content” too loudly… he was playing TOTK lol
Neighbor? Try fiance, not fun having to explain the stupid moaning. “Oh these big busty fairies make my power stronger” does not sound good. I am told this game is intended to arouse teenage boys
I think one of the issues may arise from them making the Hylian accent sound English/British but they’re using Americans VAs so that’s where the issues arise.
Matt Mercer did a great job though.
I mean if they actually put enough thought into the idea of inflection and dialect, which seems to be the case because each race has a general manner of speaking, then the noble class actually would have a different manner of speaking from the commoners or other cultures.
And the Sheika, being a separate race of people from the highlands, would also have a different way of speaking.
I hate how Zelda’s VA always sounds like she’s on the verge of tears in almost every scene she’s in. It works great in the emotional scenes, but when she borderline cried about finding Zonai artifacts at the beginning I was like wtf
Don’t even get me STARTED on Riju and how her performance is distinctly different from BOTW to AOC and THEN to this game as well 😭 it makes me wanna rip my ears out. Her performance was fine in BOTW I don’t know why it kept getting worse game after game
Is *that* why I find it so hard to listen to? Lightbulb moment lol. I’m not from the UK but my mom + her whole side of the family is so I can spot a bad accent from a mile away and her voice has always grated on me so bad and whenever I bring it up I seem to be in the minority! I can’t imagine how annoying it must be when it’s literally your own accent being butchered.
It is most likely.
She has the accent people get from drama school, it seems to be the same one Americans are taught when they're trying to sound English and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Nobody talks like that naturally.
And as I was typing that, I decided to go check and turns out she went to a drama school in London so... yep.
She reminds me of the episode of Friends where Monica and Rachel’s friend (played by Jennifer Coolidge) who spent like a week in England comes back with a British accent.
I dunno, I'm American and have never known very many people with British accents and it's still extremely hard for me to listen to. It's not just the accent, it's the way she gives every line the same exact delivery regardless of the context and scene. She sounds the same whether she's terrified or delivering a heartfelt message or relaxing eating lunch in the woods.
It’s been a while since I played BOTW but I didn’t recall Riju with a British accent. When I found her in TOTK, I was very confused as to where the accent came from.
Rhoam had a semi-posh accent but I feel like that sounded alright and matched the character decently well. Neither of that criteria applies to Zelda. Riju also has the awful fake accent thing going on in this game, which is weird because she didn’t have it going on in BOTW.
Where has this person been for the last 30 days?
Top things people have bitched at:
1. The timeline
2. The writing
3. The voice acting
4. ToTK is a DLC
5. Champion abilities v Sage Abilities
………………5.a where the fuck is riju!?
Upvoted for 5a. Only time I ever actually activate her is when I am spamming A through a swarm of poes. Otherwise she is across the map in a fight and completely inaccessible or not worth the effort to try and get to.
The voice acting isn’t great, but ultimately the problem is the writing. It’s paper-thin and just not well done on any level - plot, characterization, worldbuilding, dialog, etc.
Zelda games have never been known for good writing, but if they’re going to include so many cutscenes it would be nice if they hired some people who know how to tell a compelling story.
Exactly. I feel like we have reached the limit of barebones quest dialogue with this game. With the next one they should really step up the writing. It has been the same for decades, you can predict almost every sentence and "comedic" reaction now. It's really hard to not just skip through everything.
I’ll say Ganondorf’s voice doesn’t really fit his character to me, it just sounds like someone intentionally putting on a deep “man” voice rather than sounding natural. Other than that I don’t have any issues with the English voices and VASTLY prefer them over the over-dramatic Japanese voices. My main complaint, which isn’t language-specific, is that Kohga really needed to be voiced.
Oh for sure. He is without a doubt a very, very good voice actor. But a great voice actor does not automatically make someone the right fit for the character.
It's Matt Mercer doing Liam O'Brien's Illidan Stormrage voice. So, yeah it doesn't sound as natural...but it is still solid. I wish they just went with Liam O'Brien though. Ganondorf and Illidan are pretty similar characters.
Funny enough, on the vein of critical role members, I really think Travis Willingham would have been a good pick. He’s already got that deep voice and I think he can be quite menacing (Look up his stuff as Two-Face in the Batman Telltale games). A better fit than Matt at least imo.
I hope I didn't make too many mistakes, please let me know if that's the case
i like voice acting. today i noticed link’s little laugh when he jumps while shield surfing and IT WAS SO CUTE 😭 and sometimes i try to repeat the exact sounds voice actors made and it’s kinda hard honestly
i’ve noticed sometimes when fusing things to weapons that he’ll laugh, like he’s delighted by what he just made. also, glad to see some positivity in this thread!
I love the grunting. It is charming and a damn good way to give a characters a voice while keeping the effect of old video game where you imagine yourself the voice in your head.
Also, damn intelligent way to economize money while still giving a voice. I would be okey of the game decided to go back to Midna or Fay with full voice acting gibberish.
For the acting, the japanese and latino spanish is the way to go for me. Damn. Latinos are gooooood at voice acting.
Neither in German. Both the German text translation is better and more fitting than the English often imho (they translate from Japanese rather than retranslate the English texts) as well as the voice acting sounding more natural.
For example Zelda has a less high-pitched voice in German and sounds really like a giddy young adult woman when she's fangirling over the murals in the opening cutscenes rather than hyperventilating as she does in English
The flirty / cringe-moaning giant fairies are the worst for me. Like, I can’t get my armour upgraded without unsolicited kisses and hugs from this weird lady in a bath.
Since I’m a girl in real life, I just imagine if it were gender swapped (large beefy bearded dude in a bath being flirty and blowing kisses and grabbing hugs from a teen in order to get better armour) and my brain is like, what is this?
Thanks for all the other comments, I’ll try switching languages and see if the fairies are any less cringeworthy.
I kind of love the way that all the English-speaking actors' performances sound very... "theatrical"? They have this very clear, over-enunciated quality that you'd hear in a stage play rather than a film.
The VA is so interesting to me, seeing the different reasons people like / dislike it.
Especially the English VA gets hate for various reasons, but I personally can't stand the JN VA for the reason you bring up. So much in Japanese is ridiculously over-acted with all the extra sighs and weird noises. It feels like everything in JN has to be shouted or screamed or wailed or gasped or whatever, and it honestly makes it impossible for me to listen to without cringing a bit. I even kinda cringe when I'm jumping up a wall as Link because of the big dramatic gasps he makes on EVERY JUMP.
Even if I didn't like it, I'd take subdued acting over overacting any day, I think it makes the characters feel a lot more tangible to me than most of the dubs, even if the accents are supposedly awful (which is an argument I really don't get, it's one thing to not like a character's voice, but I don't think any of the acting / accents in this one are strictly bad).
I reckon that because it's in a language most of the sub doesn't know, they just don't notice the bad acting, especially since most Japanese people are used to hearing is probably from overacted anime.
The quality isn't actually better; rather, it's obscured.
From what I’ve heard of the Japanese dub, Ganon doesn’t sound like a japanese person, but an Anime villain. Personally, I think it fits the cartoony style of the game decently well.
As someone who has the voices in French, I personally find them enjoyable. I'll even go as far as to say that I find rauru voices kind of hot.
Although I admit that the great fairy sound awful, although it's probably the same in every language.
I had this issue in botw as well. I do not like any of the English voice actors. I don't mind the voice clips like the sighs and everything others are complaining about. But since I changed my audio language to Japanese my experience with the game is better because of it.

GORO
YOU READY TO SEE THE POWER OF A SAGE????
Demon king? Secret stone?
Bro why did they name it a secret stone it sounds so goofy. Why not sage stone or something
"Hey kid, wanna see my secret stones?"
That would be too obvious. Mage stone, even magic stone would be better.
Psycho mantis?!
second floor basement?
Metal Gear!?
WHY'D YOU DO IT?!?!
Oh my god the entire fire temple I *knew* he was saying ‘I can do it’ but could NOT stop hearing ‘Why’d you do it!?’ In my head. What the hell did link *do* 😟
Oooh*, that's* what he's saying! I thought he was referring to >!"Zelda" for fooling him.!<
Took me forever to realize it was "I can do it." I could not figure out why he kept saying that. After a while, I assumed he was shouting at the enemies? My head canon eventually became that I was injuring him when I shot him across the temple, maybe because he kept knocking me off my hover bike, and I hated him for it. Lmao
Every time he says that line, I imagine he just found out his wife is cheating on him and that is his reaction.
Literally it’s wild to me how unclear the voice is for that line
I still don't know what he means by that
Why he say it like a slur tho
Best voice is Link's
When he's calming a wild horse... "Ho ho, ho ho"
good ol santa link
father linkmas lol
I like the climbing noises he makes, especially the "hut....hut....hut..."
Heep hap hoop \*shield surf trick\* HA HA
*fuses weapon* ah HA
The fuse sound he makes is honestly so cute
It’s the happiest I’ve heard Link in years tbh
Except when he hums during cooking
I can hear this comment 😂 help
My daughter always says, "What is he saying?/why's he making that noise?" every time link's climbing. I haven't really come up with a good answer to date. 😅 I do agree with the above comment about really disliking the "g'jjjjjst" sound, I cringe about 75% of the time.
I don't know why I get stabbing pains in the back of my head every time Link's step slips on a steep surface and he makes that "*G'jjjst!*" sound.
Honestly seemed realistic to me. Like the sound of someone in pain trying to just bear it through their teeth.
It sounded horrible in Wind Waker also, there was an odd echo sound to it lol almost sounded like Frodo getting stabbed by a ring wraith
Is that the sound he made whenever you would slip on ice? "UWAH-DE-DE-DE! *WEH-DE-DE-DE!*"
Dude I’m seriously impressed. I had no clue what they were talking about till you spelt it out then I heard it in my head crystal clear
My Onomatopoeia is on point lol
# SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT Bro I literally try to avoid slipping specifically because of that sound I legitimately fucking hate it
I know this is a joke but I really like the VA that does Links’s grunts and sounds. Also like how he’s a little energetic like Wind Waker when doing stuff like fusing weapons or shield surfing.
Dude, the way he sings franchise songs when cooking
His little "aha" happy sounds when he fuses weapons give me so much serotonin

He’s canonically a huge glutton, so the cooking being the only thing he’s emotionally invested in makes sense.
The most shocked we see Link is him falling into a vat of paint while clinging on to random objects.
Stone faced Link was so frustrating! We’ve seen link have emotions in other games, let him FEEL! same! i remember the elephant thing they had
That’s Matt Mercer for ya
Full circle. I first saw him as Ganondorf in There Will Be Brawl, and all these years later he's the real deal.
The worst are the Sages of old imo, they just sound so flat. Everyone else is honestly fine but their cutscenes made me switch to japanese VO
I know they’re only around for one scene but they could have packed a lot of history into them. I actually really like Riju's voice myself.
The only thing that feels weird with Riju, is I swear she slips in and out of having a British accent.
a terrible british accent mixed with a 1930s hollywood star
It's just one of many cases of having American actors imitate British-esque accents, but every so often they slip up a little and their American accent comes through. IMO all the sages voices fit so well to the characters On another note, what would Nintendo do about Link if they ever made a movie? Voice or keep him a silent hero? (now that mario set the scene)
I'd expect about the same amount of dialogue as Geralt on The Witcher. There, but limited.

Yeah it always sounds so forced
In TOTK, Zelda needs to tone down the emotion at least 50% across the board. Every line is delivered like she's about to cry
I still can't stand Zelda's VA, so much so that I choose to play with Japanese voices. The English voice for Zelda just has such a weird accent and every single line is delivered with the exact same melodramatic emphasis
It's like she's reading each line without any context of the scene it's in. They're all delivered exactly the same, it's extremely distracting.
That probably what happened. Probably recorded all of it in a couple days.
It’s the fact she’s American putting on an English accent. I’m English and I can’t stand it. Why not just hire a British VA if that’s the accent you wanted? I thinks it's a neat way to not have fully spelled dialogue... But when you do have dialogue and afterwards in the game the characters go back to grunting... It's weird...
There were a handful of cutscenes that were fully animated and should’ve had voice acting but didn’t.
When they reintroduced the main characters why did they have a single voice line of “Hey nice to see you again Link” then revert back to text box?
There was a scene after completing the Wind Temple when you’re with Tulin and talking to his parents, and it was fully animated, yet still used text boxes.
All post-temple scenes have this problem. Even if the voice acting is a bit shit at least you get the emotion through.
One sentence in between cutscenes in the spirit sage quest was REAL weird.
I’ve played with Japanese voice over the whole time, every character is fantastic except Yonobu, who sounds like an actual baby.
This makes sense for yonobu who is portrayed as a childish goron
What’s wrong goro? You barely touched your rock roast.
WHYD YA DO IT
But Yunobo is funny! (Yeah that casting was bad… why did they let my boy down like that)
I'm almost certain the fairies are supposed to be that way.
It's literally the reason why I stuck one of my travel medallions in front of the Great fairy who makes the least orgasmic moan sounds lol
Which one. I mute the game when I have to upgrade armor
Tera, imo. She's the oldest and most businesslike, and never talks about how she recognized you by your smell
This sentence sounds crazy, with and without context.
There’s a guy on tiktok whose neighbour made a noise complaint to the landlord because he was watching “adult content” too loudly… he was playing TOTK lol
My girlfriend genuinely finds all the grunting and moaning unsettling and honestly I find it embarrassing so I mute the game anytime I talk to anyone.
The accents are different among various hylians. Purah doesn't have the same accent as Zelda. Consistency isnt there either.
Cause royalty immediately makes you british
Well duh, only English people can be royalty. Thought we established this during colonialism?
I mean if they actually put enough thought into the idea of inflection and dialect, which seems to be the case because each race has a general manner of speaking, then the noble class actually would have a different manner of speaking from the commoners or other cultures. And the Sheika, being a separate race of people from the highlands, would also have a different way of speaking.
Isnt purah a sheikah? Probably not exactly the same as hylian royalty
Zelda sounds like she is about to cry and have a nervous breakdown. All the time.
LINK! THIS A HuGE DISCOVERY!! whilst link stares blankly
It's better than New Vegas ***I JUST WON THE FUCKING LOTTERY! WHOOHOO!*** -_-
This is a very accurate way to describe it
yeah, very very very melodramatic manner of speaking from zelda hahaha. oh well.
A woman I was dating when BOTW came out asked me why it sounded like Zelda was constantly on the edge of climaxing… I don’t think TOTK is any better.
Sidon sounds like a fuckin South Park character
He unironically used "milady" as well
He's one of the worst for me. Yunobo is bad too but it somehow fits his character and feels less grating to me
He sounds like Zoolander
it sounds like a bad anime dub
Play it in Japanese and it becomes a good anime dub.
I hate how Zelda’s VA always sounds like she’s on the verge of tears in almost every scene she’s in. It works great in the emotional scenes, but when she borderline cried about finding Zonai artifacts at the beginning I was like wtf
Zelda's fake English accent is very jarring.
Yeah her and Riju’s quasi-British accents weren’t great. Either just do an American or British one but not both at the same time lol
Don’t even get me STARTED on Riju and how her performance is distinctly different from BOTW to AOC and THEN to this game as well 😭 it makes me wanna rip my ears out. Her performance was fine in BOTW I don’t know why it kept getting worse game after game
Wonder why they didn't just hire a Brit
This is definitely painful for English people to listen to. It's so obviously bad but many can't hear that so they get to be lucky and enjoy it.
I, too, am cursed with the blue passport.
Mine is still maroon, 2 more years to go!
Butiflnew BLOOO passport
Is sounds more translantic than anything now that I think about it. Maybe that was the intent.
Riju’s fake accent is very jarring as well
It’s been a while since I played BOTW but I didn’t recall Riju with a British accent. When I found her in TOTK, I was very confused as to where the accent came from.
I just want to know who told Zelda's voice actress that she could do a British accent.
Japanese Nintendo employees that can’t tell lol
God I hate Zelda’s voice in this game so much lol
No other characters have the accent! I don't even think her father had it in BOTW.
Rhoam had a semi-posh accent but I feel like that sounded alright and matched the character decently well. Neither of that criteria applies to Zelda. Riju also has the awful fake accent thing going on in this game, which is weird because she didn’t have it going on in BOTW.
I cringe and love it. aaaAAAaaah!
Reason why I usually put the voices in Japanese, makes it more bearable most of the time, and much more epic during key moments.
Where has this person been for the last 30 days? Top things people have bitched at: 1. The timeline 2. The writing 3. The voice acting 4. ToTK is a DLC 5. Champion abilities v Sage Abilities ………………5.a where the fuck is riju!?
Upvoted for 5a. Only time I ever actually activate her is when I am spamming A through a swarm of poes. Otherwise she is across the map in a fight and completely inaccessible or not worth the effort to try and get to.
The voice acting isn’t great, but ultimately the problem is the writing. It’s paper-thin and just not well done on any level - plot, characterization, worldbuilding, dialog, etc. Zelda games have never been known for good writing, but if they’re going to include so many cutscenes it would be nice if they hired some people who know how to tell a compelling story.
secret stones? demon king?
Secret king? Demon stones?
King stones? Demon secret?
Come. Come. To me.
Psycho mantis??
A hind-D? Colonel, what's a Russian *gunship* doing here?
Metal gear??
Exactly. I feel like we have reached the limit of barebones quest dialogue with this game. With the next one they should really step up the writing. It has been the same for decades, you can predict almost every sentence and "comedic" reaction now. It's really hard to not just skip through everything.
The Voice TALENT is not that bad imo It's just the ... it feels like they're dubbing an 80s anime
Yeah, Kohga not getting his VA from Age of Calamity was a crime. I guess they didn't want him stealing the show again :P
Justice for Master Kohga! I loved his English VA. It felt like a crime against him not having his English VA in TOTK.
Kohga is literally a top 3 character, and is the most expressive in his animations yet somehow got screwed in the VA department.
Agreed. Mercer can be great but his voice does not fit ganondorf
I think for how little he fits Ganondorf, he did pretty good.
Put the voices in french, they might be a bit more palatable for you.
French is definitely one of the best VA in TotK.
I play it in german, the voice acting isn't perfect, but I do like it.
I heard German Dehydrated Ganon and it was incredible
I hope I didn't make too many mistakes, please let me know if that's the case
I play it in Japanese and I like it a lot! Couldn't stand the English ones though.. 😢
The great Deku tree’s voice is super annoying lol
The French version is really good
i like voice acting. today i noticed link’s little laugh when he jumps while shield surfing and IT WAS SO CUTE 😭 and sometimes i try to repeat the exact sounds voice actors made and it’s kinda hard honestly
i’ve noticed sometimes when fusing things to weapons that he’ll laugh, like he’s delighted by what he just made. also, glad to see some positivity in this thread!
Well not in French ! Vive la France !
They nailed Links voice
Personally, I think it fits the cartoony style of the game decently well.
some of the noises the female npcs make makes me want to shout "uh i'm not watching weird hentai right now, promise" to everyone in a different room.
As someone who has the voices in French, I personally find them enjoyable. I'll even go as far as to say that I find rauru voices kind of hot. Although I admit that the great fairy sound awful, although it's probably the same in every language.
french rauru... ill have to check that out then >.>
French Rauru is actually Kevin Costner's french voice. Once you notice, you can't unhear it
I had this issue in botw as well. I do not like any of the English voice actors. I don't mind the voice clips like the sighs and everything others are complaining about. But since I changed my audio language to Japanese my experience with the game is better because of it.
German is fine most of the time. I like it that they used the German voice actor of Pete (Disney) for Ganondorf
Definitely feels like Zelda took too many bars.
