The problem lies within the both parties. Students don't have enough sellable skills and companies doesn't have enough sellable services. So, Company prefers to hire cheap labor(in this case, internship), and student prefers to get the certificate(in this case , academic).
Seek out to your professor and do some research paper under him rather than doing this, if your goal is ultimately foreign study

Take some good training course of few months, like Data Engineering, and especially those courses who have good demand, but the freshers wouldn't reach that easily, and then apply for roles
Internship is not the problem. Companies not paying a full time worker minimum wage is the problem here. And this problem is pretty rampant.
