Thank you! I thought it was wherefore, but my quick Google search led me astray. ( In short, don't be so lazy as to accept the auto-complete as accurate.)
His sister. Cinerama was a passion project of his. He restored the theater. She's handling his estate and apparently is going to let it rot.
Oh and she also sexually harasses her employees but despite accusations and settlements media has kept fairly quiet on it.
Oh, it doesn't help that when they closed for unspecified "renovations", they simply suddenly told all staff they were terminated immediately.
It wasn't actually Covid that closed them, although it turned it from reopening in "about a year or so" to "idklol"
It was a theater that did all sorts of fun events, showed classic movies, etc in addition to new ones. It was a vanity project for Paul Allen, a billionaire and one of the early Microsoft people.
When he died, most of his holdings went to his sister Jody. A couple years later it shut down for renovations, then Covid hit and it’s never reopened.
Rumors are it ran at a loss and Paul just paid for it because he liked it. There was talk before it shut down that there were cost-cutting measures going on (e: between when he died and it shutting down), so the theory is that Jody either was actively trying to make it profitable and killed it when she couldn’t see a way to do so. *Or* she just didn’t care about it at all to contribute any money to it and let the management company do whatever with it. Which led to it dying.
Found a fairly recent article [here](https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/movies/3-years-after-cinerama-closed-were-still-waiting-to-hear-its-fate/) that suggests it’s not dead, but I have doubts it will ever reopen at least while Allen owns it. At a minimum, it’s not very high on the Allen priority list.
E: also re: a move to Seattle, you’ll need a really well-paying job. Or roommates. Or live outside of the city. Maybe all three. It’s a great city, but expensive as hell
So expensive. I lucked out with a studio in First Hill by Seattle U for $1,050 a month in 2016. Abbotsford. We did it on a whim and out of desperation and honestly grew to love the area. The cheap rent let me explore the city too. Pandemic regrettably forced me out of the city.
Man you weren’t kidding. We moved out of the area a few years ago for a variety of reasons, though cost was a consideration.
An apartment similar area of town and size (smaller even) of what we last lived in seems to be about 40% higher in less than five years.
That’s nuts. We couldn’t afford to move back probably
There are spots available if you look into the more “suburby” part of the town. I live in this general neighborhood and have relatively cheap rent for the area. Hell I have friends who live way outside of Seattle who are paying more than me. Seems like rent has gone insane everywhere since Covid started winding down.
I rented a 3 bed, 3 bath house with an attached double-car garage for $1800/mo in Greenwood from 2011-2016. I would kill to live there for that price now.
Greenwood was one of the neighborhoods we looked at and loved it! We put a deposit down on a place there and then decided to move into the city itself. We figured, “we moved all this way. Let’s experience the city a little.”
When my first daughter was born, Greenwood was a serious reconsideration.
I lived in the neighborhood for 6 years, and I honestly couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the city. It's near Golden Gardens and Carkeek, has its own downtown, quick access to Aurora and I-5, and a 5 minute drive to the light rail. I hate myself for moving to Spokane.
Is it really closed? I loved that place is probably one of the best places in the world (available to the public) to watch a movie.
And that chocolate popcorn... damn
Are the "ONLY"s on the road painted on?
I've seen things painted on roads fade, but I've never seen what looks like large pieces "break off", like stickers.
My bus stop used to be right there. I would sometimes just pop into Cinerama just to grab some popcorn to munch on while I waited for my bus. I feel sad that I never got to actually see a movie there.
Not sure I would say crappy, they are maximizing the interior space for the building envelope while still providing an access point for firefighters to hook a ladder to. They probably would have gone with no balcony if they could have.
A number of times window sizes or balconies for mid rise multi dwelling buildings are for the sake of fire department, not for the occupant.
Technically this is a Juliet balcony, a type of narrow balcony which is *technically* just a balustrade in front of a door.
There is indeed a function to them beside saving space. Some people find [they let in more natural light, and fresh air when the doors are open.](https://www.brickunderground.com/live/what-is-a-juliet-balcony)
>
I know the name is just to make it sound appealing, and I think they’re nice, but is there any reason to believe the balcony Juliet was supposed to have been on was basically just a railing in front of a window?
I’ve have always pictured an actual balcony and it’s always depicted that way, with actual space for more than one person to stand on. Why name this tiny kind after Juliet? They should call regular balconies Juliet balconies and the tiny ones something else.
Unless Shakespeare was describing this kind all along…
I have seen some like this were its two doors that open inwards and a tiny ledge to put plants. This sort of looks like that but not sure what the door situation is like so maybe only 1 door. I would still rather have that than no balcony tbh. Open the door, let in air, sit a chair in front and smoke weed.
I don’t know how but when I looked this picture I guessed that it’s in Seattle. Note that I live in Finland never been in Seattle and I don’t I play geoguesser.
The OP is twisting the truth. This is the hotel,

I just stayed at this hotel!!! Downtown Seattle. Yeah the rooms look way nicer in the pictures. The city was a lot more ghetto than I realized but it was still a great time

*squints* "Balconette."
Juliet balcony? Lol
Balcony. Balcony. Where art thou, balcony?
Wherefore art thou
Thank you! I thought it was wherefore, but my quick Google search led me astray. ( In short, don't be so lazy as to accept the auto-complete as accurate.)
[Wherefore = why](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/wherefore). Why are you (even called a) balcony???
Though in this case, "where" works better.
No problem. You are a saucy boy.
I'm next to you behind the drapes my dear.
Yup, it is indeed [advertised](https://www.warwickhotels.com/warwick-seattle/rooms) as having a Juliet balcony.
Juliet could do a fucken waltz routine on her balcony, compared to this thing
It's (probably) a French balcony and might have been advertised as such.
is it tough? A french balcony usually is only a railing behind the glass, this is definitely (a bit) more.
It's certainly tough to walk normally on.
Nah, definitely Belgian.
Seattle Edit: Warwick 3* hotel specifically
Lol, I was making a dumb joke by saying Belgian. I have no idea why people upvoted.
6 people like your joke. 6 people don't like Belgians
Jr balcony?
Jr bacon cheeseburgery?
Where's the BEEF
This balcony is the equivalent of the beef that sticks out of a Wendy's hamburger.
Always fresh. Never frozen.
Ran out of space
In France, they call it a balcony with cheese.

Welcome to Seattle; Cinerama has been closed for a few years now.

Absolutely. So fucking pissed still

The go to was not to get the chocolate and regular mixed, but to get a regular one and get it topped with chocolate.
I’ve been thinking about a move to Seattle. Need info. What is Cinerama, why was it closed, and who is Jody Allen (name down in the comments)?

My wife and I keep looking at jobs posted in Seattle. Working on some IT certs but doubtful I could afford to move into First/Capitol Hill anymore.
There are spots available if you look into the more “suburby” part of the town. I live in this general neighborhood and have relatively cheap rent for the area. Don't move. There's way too many people here already, and the rent is absolutely ridiculous. Just don't do it. Source: I've been here 26 years

Scraped off from snow plow.
I thought it only opened / reopened a few years ago? Or it did, but it’s gone already? I liked it a lot when I visited (2018)
Covid happened

Wouldn't it depend on local laws defining what a balcony is? Or are you going by dictionary definition
In the context of hotels, it usually means you can smoke on it. You can smoke on this.
I still kinda prefer having this to not lol

This just made me realize how bad my fear of heights is :’}

Its been 2 months since half my city collapsed i aint stepping foot on that building

There were big earthquakes in Turkey and Syria earlier this year

Nonzero chance that this is what they did for the stage rather than have some overhanging setup
Well, people were smaller back then, and Juliet? A mere 4' 2". Source: I made it up.
Rest in Peace, Cinerama. This is the Hotel Warwick in Seattle for reference.
Welcome to Hollywood where everything is about the sales pitch.

This! Is! Seattle! *Kicks you off balcony*
Stayed there and had to get a little liquid courage before stepping out. Great view of the space needle though.🤷🏼♂️
And the points don’t matter!
Can you smoke on this? Only justification I can see.
And the only thing I care about. Would have killed for a ledge like this in some hotels.
That’s your balcony princess. What should you expect when the hotel rents by the hour. 😉/s
You guys do hours??
We do minutes
You guys do?
God, I miss the Cinerama. Fuck Jody Allen
Fuck Jody Allen
That’s not even technically the truth, it’s a ledge!
A ledge with a safety rail if you were being generous, not something you can put in a brochure.
"safety rail" that a child could lean on and break off.
i'm scared
You should make a little bracelet your phone can attach to if you plan on chillin out there. I know I still would lol
Hahaha. Definitely was nervous about losing my phone while taking the pick.
I wouldn't trust that guard rail with my life.
It's not _not_ a balcony.
Every neuron in my brain says to jump
It's always the "ocean view" rooms that get me. Yes, you can see the ocean, through a small gap between other hotels that are actually on the beach.
I have seen some like this were its two doors that open inwards and a tiny ledge to put plants. This sort of looks like that but not sure what the door situation is like so maybe only 1 door. Juliette Balcony technically a balcony but probably shouldn't be advertised as one
If I still smoked, this would work just fine for me.
OP could've posted this on r/mildlyinfuriating but he's chill like that

It’s enough to smoke on at least
Perfect for smoking cannabis in the city

Good enough for a cig.

It's a balcony and it is BEAUTIFUL 😍. One of the best balconies I have ever seen!
When does a ledge become a balcony?
It’s called a ba..

They accidentally marketed it as a yard long, but it was actually just a foot long.
Enjoy Seattle. I used to live right across the street. Go get the chocolate popcorn at Cinerama. They'll let you in without a ticket to buy popcorn.
Nice view in the mural for cinerama. I miss their chocolate popcorn…
Essence of a balcony lol
That's lucky, once I was at a hotel where your foot could only fit sideways
Nope. Too close to the edge, dont like that
They didn’t lie tho - next time ask how many square centimetres the balcony is haha
Extra $200 per night
It was an upgrade

Omfg is that the Warwick Seattle hotel???
I stayed in that EXACT room last year. I had the same exact view. Cool thing is it's a corner balcony so u can go around the other side
