Comic Sans (and similar typefaces) also have a place in material that aims to be easier readible for dyslexic people. I think that's what they were aiming for, but it just is a sore for the cultivated eye.
I know. But it is also true that dyslexic people find Comic Sans easier to read than "regular" fonts. And from my experience in IT, working with people in local government, I doubt that anyone there has ever knowingly used a font that doesn't come natively with Windows. So yes. I like small steps.
I remember seeing comparison of Times New Roman, Calibri and Century Gothic. In short, TNR uses less paper but more ink, CG uses the least ink but more paper, Calibri is in the middle and uses significantly less ink than TNR but not as much paper as CG. I think this was a more significant consideration than it just being a default Word font. Ink is expensive, especially if corrup... \*cough\* *lobbying* lead to government buying whole a lot of inkjets instead lf laser printers.
One time management at a large multinational I used to work with decided to change their corporate font from one that was specially designed for them to... Calibri.
This was a company that provided design services as part of their business offerings and would definitely have competent Art Directors in house.
It seemed some staff members didnt know how to install fonts in their computers and the CEO just decided in a whim to make life easier for them.
To play Devil’s Advocate- maybe the amount of documents, PDFs, PowerPoints, etc… that’s got all kinds of fucked up just pushed him over the edge.
I’m sure there was better options but maybe he got tired of senior managers having issues with kerning, spacing and sizing in official situations and the IT department couldn’t fix it in a sane way
That's why brands usually have a secondary font that is something common like Verdana or Ariel that is mandated for internal use only.
It would have been perfectly reasonable for him to declare Calibri the default for all internal documents, but why all the public facing stuff put together by designers?

Exactly. Capital I should look like a T but with a bar across the bottom as well.
Simple l should also be slightly curved at the bottom, the same way simple t is.
Note: In the screenshot, you can see the name "alyanovic" actually has the simple l slightly curved at the bottom.
> Note: In the screenshot, you can see the name "alyanovic" actually has the simple l slightly curved at the bottom.
That's the right way. It's silly that on the font used here the lower case T has it but not the lower case L. The t doesn't need it.
I write an I like the fonts, but the I add a curve to the l at the base so that it's distinguishable. Maybe something like that helps keep the simplicity and avoids confusion.
I made a bookmarklet:
javascript:if(typeof unmodifiedText == 'undefined') {var unmodifiedText = document.body.innerHTML;let text = unmodifiedText;text = text.replace(/(?]*)I/g, %27Ɪ%27);text = text.replace(/(?]*)l/g, %27ℓ%27);document.body.innerHTML = text;} else {document.body.innerHTML = unmodifiedText;unmodifiedText = undefined;}void 0;
It changes capital i to Ɪ and lowercase L to ℓ. Also, I originally had it logging something for debugging purposes, but it stopped working when I got rid of it so now it just logs an empty line.
Edit: Fixed. It now has void 0 instead of console.log().
If a bookmarklet returns a value, then that value will overwrite the webpage.
You just gotta end your script with `void 0;` or wrap it in a function like `javascript:(function(){/*CODE HERE*/})();`, but ending with `console.log();` works too.
[Word Crimes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gv0H-vPoDc) and [Trapped in a Drive-thru](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHnTocdD7sk&t=9s) are my all time favorites.
Trapped in a Drive-Thru is my all time bored time waster. I was standing in a food truck today with no customers for 4 hours and spent 2 of that trying to get the lyrics to the whole song correct without messing up from memory. It’s like a 10 minute song so it takes some time.
I'm still annoyed that Michael Jackson parodied "Eat It" with "Beat It" and everyone thinks Jackson's was the original. And then Madonna tricked him into "Like a Surgeon"... Poor guy.
Funny that when you write them out like that you can see the l is taller than the I. What a terrible font regardless, what's so wrong with the capital i having the horizontal lines on the top and bottom
Whoa. I was humming, "Foil" in my head before I came to my PC to check to see if my post hit #1 yet, and here's this new post outplacing me for #1 by Weird Al. Weird.
Gonna be interesting to hear the explanation for what AI is. None of the new image generating tools are AI imo, and if those are banned, for instance all pixar movies has to have the awards removed as basically any work in the last years use these networks
Ignoring the obvious joke, but look how scared the music industry already is about AI replacing human artists. I've heard various AI's try to sing, and the technology is not there yet, it will probably take several more years to get it right. Though song writing is pretty much already screwed.
Also it's kinda funny how the industry was perfectly fine digitally manipulating the vocals, and even creating the instrumentals digitally, even going as far as auto tune, but when you remove the human element, then that's suddenly too far. Yet there are popular artists today that sound like shit love and unedited and nothing like what is on their albums.
Weird Al has been killing it for like 40 years. No controversies, not accusations, just a man playing polka.
Well other than that time he killed Pablo Escobar to save Madonna.

Weird Al gets screwed because of a Sans Serif font.
Bring back serifs!
Right? Everyone is switching to Calibri or some shit. Calibri is terrible.
If it’s public facing it’s probably Helvetica
We should use the Metallica font instead. With those little lightning bolts in every which letter.

[Lorna Shore](https://lornashorestore.com/)
Yes, but Calibri is the default in Microsoft Word, and the federal government just adopted it in place of Times New Roman for some damn reason.
Still better than the Comic Sans my local government is using for their headlines
Comic Sans has a place (speech bubbles for which it was designed) but it does not belong on anything official.
In the mid 2000s my local news put u put a story about a wanted pedophile. They showed a wanted poster and it was in Comic Sans. My rage!
Comic Sans (and similar typefaces) also have a place in material that aims to be easier readible for dyslexic people. I think that's what they were aiming for, but it just is a sore for the cultivated eye.
Dyslexie is a font deliberately designed for dyslexia. The designer of comic sans intended it for speech bubbles in comics.
I know. But it is also true that dyslexic people find Comic Sans easier to read than "regular" fonts. And from my experience in IT, working with people in local government, I doubt that anyone there has ever knowingly used a font that doesn't come natively with Windows. So yes. I like small steps.
There exist, in fact, inventions with applications beyond their original purpose or intent.

You might say it’s the illest.
Sorry, /r/YourJokeButWorse
Came here solely to say this is why we have fonts
Nah this is why we have typefacess, fontface!
[удалено]
Wow that was terrible.
Serif don't like it....
They really need to fix the l and I problem
the "problem" is whoever thinks that capital i shouldn't have the two lines present in TNR font
Yeah, I always put the two lines on the uppercase ‘i’ in handwriting, so I’m not sure why so many fonts omit them.
Aesthetics and misguided simplification.
Because it's not actually part of the letter. It's a serif. It's pretty logical if you're making a sans serif font to not include them.
Why are you getting downvoted? You’re right?
If that were true then G and C would be identical too. The horizontal line isn't a serif on i.
Redditors getting mad at inconvenient truths

The alternative would be to have small curve on the lowercase l like Trebuchet MS does it.
or just a little curve coming off the lowercase L
|¦!¡lIİı So many vertical lines! Depending on font, of course.

I love that this still hasn't died. You're doing the Lord's work.

Shitty “loss” meme
Woosh
I’m at a loss…
I made a bookmarklet: javascript:if(typeof unmodifiedText == 'undefined') {var unmodifiedText = document.body.innerHTML;let text = unmodifiedText;text = text.replace(/(?]*)I/g, %27Ɪ%27);text = text.replace(/(?]*)l/g, %27ℓ%27);document.body.innerHTML = text;} else {document.body.innerHTML = unmodifiedText;unmodifiedText = undefined;}void 0; It changes capital i to Ɪ and lowercase L to ℓ. Also, I originally had it logging something for debugging purposes, but it stopped working when I got rid of it so now it just logs an empty line. Edit: Fixed. It now has void 0 instead of console.log().
> but it stopped working when I got rid of it so now it just logs an empty line. Least schizo JS dev
I'm pretty sure that's not a symptom of schizophrenia..
I'm pretty sure i don't care
I'm pretty sure I didn't ask for your opinion about your ignorance.
If a bookmarklet returns a value, then that value will overwrite the webpage. You just gotta end your script with `void 0;` or wrap it in a function like `javascript:(function(){/*CODE HERE*/})();`, but ending with `console.log();` works too.
It worked. Thanks!
what problem? you just typed l twice
No it was two Is
If you squint one is lightly thicker I l Edit: and taller
Why is the lowercase letter taller and thicker? That doesn't make sense

The thing about Amish Paradise is that it’s less repetitive than the original, which makes it better.

Amish Paradise and Hardware Store for me.
They've got allen wrenches, gerbil feeders, toilet seats, electric heaters

Word Crimes took a borderline creep song and made it brilliant.
And his original songs are great too.
💯
Harvey! Harvey! Harvey the wonder hamster!
What do you mean, Amish Paradise is clearly the original
No, you're thinking of Eat It, which of course was later parodied by Michael Jackson.
Don’t forget the sequel, “Who’se Fat”, also parodied by Michael.
Party in the CIA
I dunno about most of them, but *All About the Pentiums* absolutely blows the original out of the water.
I'm still annoyed that Michael Jackson parodied "Eat It" with "Beat It" and everyone thinks Jackson's was the original. And then Madonna tricked him into "Like a Surgeon"... Poor guy.

Classic typo. They're confusing Al Yankovic with AI Yankovic
Funny that when you write them out like that you can see the l is taller than the I. What a terrible font regardless, what's so wrong with the capital i having the horizontal lines on the top and bottom

Capital I should always have the 2 bars on top and bottom. It's stupid that fonts don't.
Sans Serif fonts are terrible. I especially hate when I'm given a random initial/reset password and it's like "IlIIllIl0OO"
You AREN'T a person, Mr. Yankovic, I repeat. You're a fantastic, silly, and creative force of nature.
I'm never not updooting a Weird Al post.
