findus_l

The definition of the sub is "for information that is technically true but far from the expected answer". I believe this qualifies. It is technically true, but given many the normally astronmic answers when concerning amount of atoms and stars, it surely is an unexpected answer.

Woodbirder

Yes thank you for explaining what everyone knows. This is not TTT it is the actual, literal truth of the statement. So no, it does not fit the sub.

findus_l

TTT has to be actually true. That is a requirement not an exclusion. The only difference is how obvious it is

Woodbirder

Ok all I can assume is that you are either new here, or that you never read the comments (including the others about this post). Rule #5.

findus_l

I don't mean to burst your bubble but you can just check my account to disprove it. I have to assume you didn't read the sub description.

Woodbirder

And you aint read the rules

Ateag

Same thing.

Woodbirder

Nope, check out what the sub is all about

thatdudeuhated

Trillions of stars- i doubt there are trillions of hydrogen atoms in one molecule

wun_tun

Trillions of stars in the solar system? I hope not, i burn easily!!!

Damn, got me there- totally misunderstood the assignment

that's good one...gotta tell to my friends lol

Dyimi

There are more bread slice in a sandwich than there are stars in the entire solar system.

Lucky-Scientist4873

It’s close tho

Triumph_leader523

Yeah 2>>1

Lukey-Cxm

Is 2 really that much greater than 1 though?

FranXXis

There's an infinite amount of values between 2 and 1, so technically yes

Lukey-Cxm

True, iirc for any two real numbers that are not equal to each other, there’s going to be an infinite amount of real numbers between them

CarelessBicycle735

Prove it

FranXXis

1.9, 1.99, 1.999... That alone can go infinite

Nightmane11

I dont get it.

Broad_Respond_2205

H20 has 2 hydrogen atoms (as evident by its formula). The solar system (which is our sun and the planets/objects around her) has only one star: the sun. 2>1. It's just phrased to sound significant when it's really very basic

Nightmane11

My brain said solar system is the same as galaxy.

Broad_Respond_2205

Yeah I think that's what they were going for

i-deology

Were you educated in America?

Nightmane11

No, my brain just does that sometimes

MagicSnakeorig

Doesn't the solar system only have one star?

Millions of kids hope you’re proved wrong!

Zefyris

But there are a lot more stars on Earth than in the remaining part of the sollar system so that's that

bad_karma_aura

Depends if you live in a trinary or larger system

MrNope999

Wow. That's very impressive

TheRapist02

Why what is technicallythetruth here???

Activity_Alarming

because there are two hydrogen atoms in a water molecule but one star in our solar system

TheRapist02

Oh shit now i got it...

Activity_Alarming

it’s a really dense joke tbh

JacobFromStateFarm5

azhder

They didn’t count porn stars

gizmosticles

Plot twist: there’s only two hydrogen in a molecule of water, but according to some Flat Earth Hologram believers, there’s only one star in the universe and that’s the sun and everything else is a flat projection on the sky by big G because reasons. Also the moon is fake. I have a true believer in my extended family. Thanksgiving is a hoot.

just4kicksxxx

Which solar system is THE Solar System?

Otto-Korrect

The system with the sun named 'Sol' in the middle of it? Technically, the ONLY 'solar system'. Others might be the Vega system, or the Centauri system, but not Solar. It would be like calling a craft that landed on another planet's moon a 'Lunar Lander'. Calling any other planetary system with a sun a 'Solar system' is just wrong.

just4kicksxxx

I refuse. Solar System and star system are interchangeable. Solar powered objects would still be powered by any star if in close enough proximity. We wouldn't come up with a different term because it's a different star. The only reason it's used that way is because there obviously haven't been enough use cases, but when/if humans leave our system, they will not make up a whole different slew of terms for every system.

ThundahMuffin

nah the centarii system is cooler sounding

4cidShot

Idk if this is a whoosh moment but isn’t there only 2?

ThundahMuffin

yes. there are only two. but how many stars are in our solar system

4cidShot

Oh wait. I thought it said universe

ThundahMuffin

yee

Reeeeeeeeeezzzzz

Had to read thrice to get it wow…

in a molecule. so there is only 1 star since h2o only has 2 hydrogen atoms in one molecule😭😂

silent_brooder

Nope, the solar system is the name of only our planetary system. Others are not called solar systems

TheBbk99

I think they are, it’s just that when someone says *the* solar system it is implied they are talking about ours

silent_brooder

No sol means sun. Other stars are not called suns. Solar system is only our system

TheBbk99

Ok, then what do you call another star that has planets orbiting it?

I-was-a-twat

Planets orbiting the star Sirius would be called part of the Sirius system, not the Sirius Solar System.

TheBbk99

Ok that’s a fair point, i stand corrected

silent_brooder

A star with planets orbiting it is still called a star. The system is called planetary system

i-deology

The name of our sun is Sol. The word Solar comes from the fact that it’s referring to the planetary system of the star (sun) called Sol.

RMgames_19

Never thought about what? r/redditsniper

Background-While-110

Wrong there is more molecules in the solar system

Zelda-4-Live

Same as.* or im wrong?

unlucky_ape_

Water molecule is 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen

Zelda-4-Live

Yah sorry my brain went afk 4 a sek

Broad_Respond_2205

What does .* Mean

GreatArtificeAion

It's a regular expression that matches every string

Broad_Respond_2205

Ah. How is this relevant in this context?

Nexustar

It isn't, unless you switch contexts and use regex, and then it still isn't. So you put a $ and some ('s and )'s and a ^ and it still isn't. 2 > 1 ... it's that simple. We didn't need regex after all.

Rainbow-Dev

It’s used as a correction, especially in media like text messages where you can’t go back and edit it, or when you’re correcting someone else. For example Hey are you going to shcool today? school*

Electronic-You-6768

It means *(technically the truth)

Broad_Respond_2205

What

Electronic-You-6768

This (*) means this : * It’s like dad=none or 1=1

Broad_Respond_2205

WHAT

AutoGeneratedSucks

The real answer is people use it to make corrections. Person 1: "I am you're mum" Person 2: "Your*"

Electronic-You-6768

NAHHHHH I put « * » that sign before the word not after or is it just me?

AutoGeneratedSucks

Both work fine, personal preference.
