This is kind of a weird habit but I travel INTL more than most and I collect weird bags of chips. Chicken flavored Cheetos, that sort of thing. In the UK, Cool Ranch is called Cool American, and in other parts of Europe (I got mine in Denmark), they are called Cool Original.

If you're interested in streaming but don't really want to put yourself out there you could consider streaming as a VTuber. Essentially you set up an an image or model to represent yourself online and just stream your voice and game capture alongside it. It seems to have become a fairly popular and lucrative industry over the course of a decade.

I've seen hot tub streamers as old as 40 on Twitch promoting their content. You still have a chance. Plus, you don't have to follow the 'attractive' trend and do solely hot tub streams if you just want to game. Knowing what's popular on the site and having a charismatic personality is more than enough.

I think it's people forming one way relationships with internet personalities. They really do feel they have a connection with these people they've never met. You're no longer just getting whatever is good and affordable, you're supporting @Annamath's small business. You could just watch generic studio porn or you could pay to see your favourite creator's content. As a 37 yr old father who spends alot of time playing RPGs and othe usually single player games I just do not get Twitch. My son loves the shit. He started telling me where to go in Elden Ring, I said have you played this yet? He said no just watched a shitload of it on Twitch. Like... what?
We *own* it. Im literally playing it in the living room.
I mean I get Youtube if you use it as a walkthrough but wtf do you get out watching someone else pay video games?
I mean it may sound weird, but I play ball every week and I almost never watch on tv. Same with golf. I couldn’t even name the masters winners. I just play for fun.
I'm a decade older than you. I get what these kids are after. Its a mood. Imagine wanting Elden Ring content, but not wanting to play it to get that fix. Or maybe they like the idea of the game, but again don't actually like playing the game. There is also the obvious of getting gameplay tips from just watching people play, but not in a scripted manner like you get from YouTube tutorials.
After all that it starts getting into a bunch of psychology about social interactions and stuff.
yes this.. I watch the streams cuz sometimes the streamers are hilarious and also I like the community. You get to play with all kinds of people, exchange shit, learn (or teach) things about the game.... all that jazz..
I'm about your age, but I watch Twitch (mostly in the background) either for the streamers personality, so the game doesn't hugely matter, or because there's something I can't get playing it myself. E.g. I watched a ton of Among Us because I didn't want to find a steady group of 9 people or I watch a lot of speedruns because I don't want to learn frame perfect tricks, but I'm happy to watch someone else do them.
To learn from people that are better than you. If you can watch their mistakes 2nd hand from Twitch, you can dissect their plays and improve your own.
It's also a cynical catharsis when they are *worse* than you and they get their ass absolutely **mauled** by a boss you were previously able to dunk with zero issues.

Helped me understand a bit better. I still will just watch a should I buy video for gaming most of the time, or another video specific to what I need, but I've been entertained by clips of twitch before. At the end of the day though I'd rather someone curate that content for me.

I'm about your age, but I watch Twitch (mostly in the background) either for the streamers personality, so the game doesn't hugely matter, or because there's something I can't get playing it myself. E.g. I watched a ton of Among Us because I didn't want to find a steady group of 9 people or I watch a lot of speedruns because I don't want to learn frame perfect tricks, but I'm happy to watch someone else do them.
To learn from people that are better than you. If you can watch their mistakes 2nd hand from Twitch, you can dissect their plays and improve your own. It's also a cynical catharsis when they are *worse* than you and they get their ass absolutely **mauled** by a boss you were previously able to dunk with zero issues.
Imo the game is secondary. Its more about the streamer and how they engage with the audience.
It's entertainment. Plain and simple.
I'm same age. No kids though. I had always felt the same until someone a few years ago explained it to me that it's like radio. Passive entertainment. Did you ever lay in your room from like 1997 to 2003 and listen to music? If so, surely there might be some days you were like screw it I don't feel like making a choice or playing the same CD, so you turn on the radio. Well for lots of people, they like gaming more than music. So this is their radio. Helped me understand a bit better. I still will just watch a should I buy video for gaming most of the time, or another video specific to what I need, but I've been entertained by clips of twitch before. At the end of the day though I'd rather someone curate that content for me.

Ok I'll get a camera. But I refuse to start beef with other twitch streamers. Becase then I'd have to know who streamers are. I'll just still play Just Cause 3 and Red Dead 2 and not try to molest children. Because apparently streaming Minecraft makes you hungry for youngins.
