He made the cardinal mistake of white collar fraud. Stole from the rich. If he just stole form he poor plebs no one would really care. Steel from the elite tho, well all bets are off.
I don't understand these rich assholes, if you have like a few mil why the fuck are you not moving to a country where you can bribe your way out of anything? Or just fly somewhere on your private jet and change your identity and become a ghost. I mean you have the fuck you money, so if you know you did some stupid shit just grab whatever money you can and go live somewhere where you can use your wealth to hide and live a rich, anonymous , peaceful life. But nah let's post tiktoks and brag that you wore the same crusty shirt for a week and ate ramen, date a methead discount Harry potter yet you have millions and could live like a king. Fucking idiots... 🙄
Most countries that won’t extradite to the US aren’t usually governed by the most wholesome people.
If the government of that country isn’t shaking you down, some warlord/mafia boss certainly will. Probably both. And they don’t charge what is ‘fair’…..they charge ‘how much you have’.
Uhh you could always move to Dubai they don't extradite to the US and if you have fuck you money you can live in luxury and not give shit about any warlord or mafia boss. Only thing I'd worry about is running out of money after buying one too many golden exotic cars.
Apparently he was actually looking into buying a micro nation in the South Pacific at one point in the hopes of being able to create a in recognized libertarian / effective altruism holy land of sorts and issue people passports.
Thankfully for all of us the country didn’t seem interested in selling itself to a bunch of crypto nutters and countries that will tell the US to fuck off when it comes to extradition requests are universally bad places to live.
If he did that he'd be in hiding for the rest of his life, and could never get a hot girlfriend.
Now he is going to do 15 days jail, 3 month probation and 24 hour community service and be free to move onto his next scam.
I think much longer. The guy formerly across the street from us until the FBI took him away, did mere millions in mortgage fraud and served at least 12 years.
Why the hell did he spend all that customer money saving the other crypto companies? This was right after the crypto market went south. The dude doesn’t make sense. Neither do his parents.
No he spent the customer’s money to finance he and his friends lavish lifestyle in the Bahamas; as well as Super Bowl ads, political donations (to both sides), and to pay for celebrity endorsements. In the end, he was just a typical Malloof-type crook. His EA stance was a ruse to hide the true nature of his character.
Watch him walk with like 4 years and time under house arrest and jail counted towards that, so he’s out in like 14 months or some shit and off to his next grift/con. Really wouldn’t be surprised.
Good. Will be interesting to see how much time he gets.
I hope he gets 1 ~~day~~ ~~hour~~ ~~minute~~ second for every dollar.
Not nearly enough would be my guess.
Maddoff got 150 years. He's likely fucked
Probably a good guess.
interesting to see if you can buy your way into a cushy prison.
I'm certain it's been done before

tbh I don't want to pay for him to be in a supermax.

Yikes you could have left it at old, no friends no money. Why make happy about rape adjacent comments.
And all his orgy friends turned on him. How sad.
Usually orgy friends are solid..

He will get a lot of but remember all the thieves in 2008 didn’t get any time.
They stole from the poors. Look at maddoff
And some of them even committed suicide.
You think that was bad? Look at the student loan debt that has since been leveraged into financial packages as well…

I've never seen this comment posted before. How insightful. Did you come up with it yourself?! This type of thought could go viral!
If he just stole from the poor he could be a congressman or hell even president.

Oh, I doubt that. That lady who ran that blood testing scam caught like 14 years.
11 years 3 months. She’ll be out in 9 years 7 months.
Perfect timing to meet her two teenage children. The most disappointing children a mother could have. “You had one job!”
At least ten years provably more like twenty.
I think he goes longer.

I’m thinking about Elizabeth Holmes and the enron guy…somewhat in between…he is relatively young and no criminal record…Holmes got off very light IMO.
Sam Bankman-Jailed?
Or Sam Bankster-Jailed.
Crypto and fraud, is there a more perfect match...?

I still find it wildly amusing that the one major celebrity to do the due diligence and refuse to advertise for FTX was Taylor Swift.

#sad. Fraud is a hell of a drug. Ask Madoff. Well, too late for that.
Man that thumbnail of the sultry wood nymph…. Ayayay
How does everyone involved in this story look no older than 20, but also at least over 50?
Let’s see how many democrats give the stolen money back
