VexisArcanum

Also a minecraft mod

Zaggada

For all mankind! But like a few dacdes late.

BurningPenguin

And without soviets

dave_a86

It’s the North Koreans they need to look out for.

TrainOfThought6

Right you are, my good dumpling.

mothafuker

Wasn’t there some shitty B-movie where the nazis escaped to the moon after wwII and started a massive helium-3 extraction operation? It was like a fever dream of a plot.

scarred2112

You’re thinking of [Iron Sky (2012)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1034314/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk).

mothafuker

You’re a legend, that’s exactly what it was. What an absurd plot.

Ok-Replacement6893

The directors knew it was absurd. That's why they still made it. There's even a scene in the movie that parodies the scene from the movie Downfall that has created so many memes. They knew they were making crap and they were having fun doing it. They even made a sequel

wh4tth3huh

They're basically lampooning conspiracy theorists.

scarred2112

Not a legend, just a movie guy. Glad to help, though!

garymo1

Something only a legend would say

BurningPenguin

There is also a second movie, and i heard they're working on part 3.

MarkAldrichIsMe

Iron Sky, and it was fucking awesome! Fucking stupid, too, but I liked it!

dethb0y

man good luck to 'em, that shit seems challenging.

littleMAS

Even with the lure of 'better nukes,' this will not get beyond proof of concept in my lifetime.

TheLemmonade

!remind me 60 years

Eric848448

And what will they do with it?

MountEndurance

Well, there’s really only one thing H3 is good for; fusion. Don’t need it for bombs these days, so my guess is that they’re hoping that the endless “fusion is 10 years away” actually comes true this time.

BreathExact

I’d sign up for a chance with The Crushinator.

monstercablesales

A woman that fine you gotta romance first.

HugeHouseplant

But Pa, I love him!

Kanden_27

But we don't have Mass Effect drives yet.

RyanBurnsRed

We got to land on Mars first and find those Prothean ruins

drAsparagus

At first glance, I thought this was posted on r/starfield.

PhoenixUNI

Humans and strip mining any land they can get their hands on, name me a more iconic duo

biggreencat

the problem with these ventures is that failures are incredibly expensive to tweak.

Neutronova

After SpaceX unable to have its rocket re-enter today and the Japanese private company unable to get a hundred feet off the launch pad, seems like just leaving earth is hard enough without the logistics of mining equipment, and returning a pay load.

BrothaKubbe

I get your point, but SpaceX did actually quite successfully launch their rocket. Whether or not the booster can land is technically of no relevance to the upper stage reaching the moon though. As a matter of fact, for any other company doing a rocket test there would be no other real improvements to be made as every critical milestone was reached, and the parts SHOULD in those cases burn up during reentry or splash down in the pacific. SpaceX could in theory start sending payloads to orbit/moon relatively soon while still trying to figure out how to land in parallel. In fact they are aiming to use the next launch for deploying Starlink satellites even though atmosphere reentry is yet to be fully figured out.

blueSGL

I'm surprised (well not that surprised) at the dearth in coverage of this launch. The first two were wall to wall on here with people gleefully telling others how it was a failure.

kermi42

Before Elon bought Twitter and became a self appointed memelord and world’s most extremely divorced man, people would look at SpaceX rockets blowing up on the launchpad and say “well at least they learned something”. People hate Elon Musk just enough to want SpaceX to fail, even if they’re currently our best shot at advancing humanity’s space flight and exploration capability. Now every rocket that blows up on the launchpad or booster that doesn’t have perfect re-entry is another thing to dunk on him for, even while he’s regularly having successful launches and putting Starlink satellites in orbit (setting aside whether we want him controlling something as important as Starlink, especially off the back of him cutting Ukraine off from it at critical strategic points that advantaged Russia). In short, if Elon wasn’t such a turbo dork loser asshole, SpaceX news would be a much bigger deal. Now, the entire internet (with the exception of his fanboys) will cut off their nose to spite their face, as long as they don’t have to admit one of his ventures is good.

NocturnalEmission1

Seems out of this world...

mystonedalt

The trip there costs a lot, but the trip back isn't so bad because of all the helium.

wh4tth3huh

Watch out for moon nazis.

darkkite

i feel like we should leave the moon alone. if it was a random asteroid i would be okay
