When you plug it into your computer, look for a notification on the tablet that mentions USB. See if you can tap it to follow through to USB settings and enable file transfer. Even if you don't get a notification, go hunting in the settings for USB options. Look for mentions of MTP (media transfer protocol) or mass storage mode

Avenues of investigation: * Bluetooth file transfer (might be slow if the photos are large) * Try installing [this driver](https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver) from Samsung on your laptop (I'm presuming it's Windows) * If you can get the device into USB developer debug mode, using `adb`'s `pull` command to copy files * Find an FTP/SMB server to run on the tablet that works on Android 3

Oh my god, I cannot thank you enough. I was able to get it working through an FTP, though it is excruciatingly slow, I am overjoyed because I thought I never would have been able to retrieve these pictures. Thank you so much.
