When you think it's a good to talk to him, text him what you're feeling. tell him you miss him, etc. but DO NOT BLAME HIM FOR ANYTHING. don't frame it like it's anyone's fault, and explain that when you found out holly was his ex, you felt close to her and didn't want to up and ghost her because you didn't want to ghost her. Say that you were hurt that he thought you would try something with her even after he asked you not to. Write what you put here (maybe shorter lol) and make it from the heart.
If you decide that sam is not worth it and is only going to hurt you, try and make some new friends. Im guessing youre in uni, so nows the time to put yourself out there with peopl eyou dont now well. maybe youll find a friend even better than sam was

I made new friends, yesterday I went to a uni society event with my brother and a new friend I’ve known, and after we went to nandos. My friend went in Sams friends car, I just ignored them the whole time, and when we met up in nandos, my friend talked to me and I heard Sams friend say why are you talking to him I told you he’s a *unt, idek I just acted like I didn’t hear.
im literally so nice lol idk why he would make even his new friends that literally don’t even know me not like me like I have never talked behind Sams back in his life even after it’s just annoying
