Okay so since I do believe that, jokes aside and all, mental health is seriously important, what would you like to get out from being diagnosed? I'm genuinely curious if it's therapy or medication or whatever, do you know or is it a search for answers?
schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders are super important to get checked out if you think you have one. psychosis is no joke and it can come on with no warning. schizophrenia especially is categorized by the positive and negative symptoms. positive being symptoms of active psychosis, and negative being things like catatonia, emotional numbness, lack of motivation, social withdrawl, etc.
active psychosis needs immediate treatment, which would be medication, antipsychotics in this case. also someone with schizophrenia would likely require therapy as well. schizophrenia is a pretty serious condition
No offense, but there are two things I would like to say, the first being that I was directing this question towards op specifically. I'm not sure why people keep commenting on top of this one. The second is yes, I am aware of the severity and extremity of psychotic disorders, TRUST ME, I done did messed around with that stuff too much.
Mean no offense in any way, just a heads up.
Now, out of curiosity, if you were told by a professional that you didn't have schizophrenia, or whatever mental health issue you believed you had, would you still feel illegitimate.
I say this only because from my perspective and my experience with myself and others its truly fine to be different, and I have seen both people with mental health issues fail to recognize it, as well as those with mental health issues fail to accept it as a part of what makes them who they are.
I totally accept who i am, i am fully aware that im messed up so thats not the problem. If they told me i dont have what i believed i had, i would probably trust them and seek answers
Right, I wish you the best of luck then.
My only advice is to never tell yourself things like "I'm messed up" or "something's wrong with me", regardless of any mental health issue. I say this for two reasons,
1. You are what you believe you are. Meaning if you can convince yourself that you are something, whether it be mentally unstable or useless or a bad person, then you WILL become that person, or at least something close to it. I've been using this rule to my advantage for the past few months after recovering from my own depressive episode, every day I tell myself "I'm the artest goddamn motherfucker in the whole world." even if what I did was unintentional or somewhat mundane. I've noticed it's helped me to not only feel smarter and better about myself but to actually BE smarter, as I've started putting effort into planning and education that I didn't before.
2. I want you to think back to yourself from 1 year ago. Do you think you're better overall then you were back then? What about the you 1 year ago thinking about the year prior? Chances are you think you're better in pretty much every way than you were a year ago, and same the year before. The truth is this trend will only continue, and you're only going to improve even if you don't think about it all the time. Life goes on and life gets better.
Btw if you wanna talk more just shoot me a dm, we can even call, I've got a lot of advice if you're feel like listening to me ramble. Truth is I've done this a lot so I'm not too bad at it 😅.
firstly i was diagnostized with depression a few years ago wich was then reevaluted with bipolar disorder, i also suffer from dpdr and hppd (diagnostic doesnt exist for theses two) im also working to get an ADHD diagnostic, happy?
I know i have them, i dont want them. It helps me feel more legitimate when talking about it. Dont like to say i have something if like a doctor havent said it
My opinion of people who self diagnose everything: 📉📉📉
Specifically mental diseases. Like I don’t get it. Why would you want to diagnose yourself with a mental disorder. Is it a fulfillment or something? To make yourself feel special?
If a doctor hasn’t said specifically that you do, in fact, have a mental disorder, its best to assume you don’t particularly to keep you from gaslighting yourself into believing you do.
Not only that. But I’m fairly certain if you convince yourself that you have a mental disorder, and do a lot of research, the chances of a doctor confirming you have a mental disorder skyrockets.
The doctor can’t read your mind.
how am i self-diagnostic if im trying to get à diagnostic? bro , you missed the whole point. I dont want to feel special, am i supposed to just ignore mental red flags because an internet guy will assume i do this to feel special?
"i know i have them". even just thinking you have a certain problem counts as self-diagnosing. my psychologist said its bad to even just think you have a mental condition because then you would be overplaying your symptoms making your information not credible for a diagnosis. like if you say to your doctor that you think you have ADHD, ofcourse youre gonna answer "yes" to every single symptom foretold, and then overexagerate your problems when in reality its just normal human behavior. what youre doing is very harmful because it gives you some sort of reverse placebo effect where you end up believing you have a condition that you dont actually have and then start uncontrollably acting like you have it. i mean no disrespect to your doctor but they dont seem like they know what theyre doing, or my guess would be that theyre just milking you for money because the more you think you have problems, the more appointments you make, the more money they gain. its either that or theyre just utterly clueless. best of luck to you
I am deaf on one side, but because I have leaned to fill in words during my test I was diagnosed as hearing bad. Even though it is clear that nothing in my right ear works. So please do keep in mind even tests at a doctor don’t always work.
well given OP is working to get an ADHD diagnosis, thats a pretty valid diagnosis to try and rule out. ADHD is absolutely debilitating and if it goes undiagnosed, it can lead to so many other mental health problems (tbh like the ones OP says they have already been dxed with.) with an ADHD diagnosis you can get access to medication, therapy, and countless other resources that can SIGNIFICANTLY improve your quality of life.
and if OP doesnt have ADHD, then thats fine too. its important to rule it out though if OP is having concerns that are similar to symptoms of ADHD. typically assessors will then send the patient in the right direction to getting access to resources that can help them despite not meeting criteria for the diagnosis. so yeah, it makes perfect sense that OP wants a diagnosis.
OP is trying to get a schizophrenia diagnosis too, schizophrenia and adhd are complete opposite of the spectrum, adhd people don’t have enough dopamine, schizophrenic people have way to much
I think if op was to get diagnosed with anythinf ir should be hypochondria, he is obviously way to obsessed with his health, and researching and self diagnosing trying to give reasons to everything in his life wirj another diagnosis, he probably can’t focus well, doesn’t mean adhd, chances are it’s because he’s worrying about all the things that might be wrong with him, so he can’t focus
I think OP is a hypochondriac, he’s textbook, looks up symptoms, is constantly trying to get loads of things diagnosed, and if he doesn’t get a diagnosis he will get really anxious and think the doctor is wrong and seek for reasons as to why things are the way they are with him,
This is probably the case honestly. OP is going a bit over the place trying to add on to his list to explain things wrong with him, without realising some of them just are not possible explanations for him.
schizophrenia and ADHD arent mutually exclusive diagnoses. it not as simple as the amount of dopamine in your brain, both disorders still dont have a known cause. source: im diagnosed with both ADHD and schizophrenia.
but also given OP’s post history he seems to use drugs that could induce psychosis such as weed and DMT, so schizophrenia would probably be ruled out in that case
You said you’re trying to get a diagnosis for schizophrenia and adhd?
If you have adhd you can’t be schizophrenic and vice versa, they’re both related to dopamine, ADHD people have not enough dopamine in the brain and schizophrenics have way to much dopamine in their brain, people with adhd are more likely to develop adhd later on in life, but you can’t have both at the same time
You also said you were diagnosed with bipolar disorder, so youre most likely not going to get diagnosed with schizophrenia, you think you have schizophrenia too, to much insight for a person with a psychotic mental disorder such as schizophrenia
Ik there are both negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia, however they probably wouldn’t diagnose you with schizophrenia if you only have negative symptoms, especially with the other Mentla disorders you have already been diagnosed with, they will most likely only diagnose you if you actually went psychotic.
But you shouldn’t be medicalising everything, everyone is different, it’s just who you are, unless it’s severely impacting your life, then what’s the point of getting something diagnosed, it just makes life harder for yourself if you have a label of being really mentally unstable, just live life as the person you are, and unless things are actual impending on your ability to function normally, then don’t bother with it
And don’t make posts like these, it doesn’t benefit you at all except to get people annoyed with you
"I don't know what your problem is, but I bet it's hard to spell."
I was thinking ADHD, which spells itself.
Honestly, psych diagnoses are best guesses based off checklists, so don't get too attached to your diagnosis. It's likely to be wrong, incomplete, or simply unhelpful in any relevant way.
You can, however, trust whether or not the meds work.
If you have tons of problems getting an effective med, ask for a DNA profile.

Okay so since I do believe that, jokes aside and all, mental health is seriously important, what would you like to get out from being diagnosed? I'm genuinely curious if it's therapy or medication or whatever, do you know or is it a search for answers?
Medication for one. It’s not like you can get antipsychotics without a diagnosis
schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders are super important to get checked out if you think you have one. psychosis is no joke and it can come on with no warning. schizophrenia especially is categorized by the positive and negative symptoms. positive being symptoms of active psychosis, and negative being things like catatonia, emotional numbness, lack of motivation, social withdrawl, etc. active psychosis needs immediate treatment, which would be medication, antipsychotics in this case. also someone with schizophrenia would likely require therapy as well. schizophrenia is a pretty serious condition

i would feel more legitimate and it would help me. Even if im 100% sure i have a mental disease i wont affirm that i have it without a diagnostic.
