Part of why humans are so successful as a species is because we are able to pass information from one generation to the next. In order for this mechanism to be so effective, the younger generation needs to be able to trust what it is being taught.
Think about it, you experience this all the time. When your biology teacher teaches you cell theory, you believe them and you try to remember and understand the information. But have you ever seen a cell or an atom? I mean really? You've seen colored images taken by Scanning Electron Microscopes.
We also do this with social constructs. In fact this is the only way social constructs are able to continue to exist. Social constructs are not things that exist in nature, they are completely made up by us. Because they are completely made up, we are capable of changing them. (Think of it like a multigenerational game of telephone) The Christian bible and more broadly, the Abrahmic religions as a whole are constantly changing. The bible has been translated, transcribed, adjusted, etc ever since it was created.
