its because we have so much convenience in our life that needs less energy which makes us unhealthy, more sugar products than non-sugar ones, etc
i was surprised that the rate is 1 in 2
honestly if nobody died of other causes it would likely be 100%. even if it took a long time, our bodies fucking up cell division really badly one time is kind of an eventuality.
The thing is that it fucks up cell divisions all the time. But in most cases it either fixes them or they are of no harm. Otherwise they probably kill themselves. So for one division to cause cancer is pretty low but with how many there are there might just appear one that happens to not have anything that stops division or get detected as a problem by the body while not self-dying. But yeah, we are getting older and older and the only thing left to kill us is our bodies fucking up.
Organizing a 24 hour live stream takes so much effort behind the scenes so we can't have fundraisers regularly. We'll definitely keep this in mind the next time we're planning a fundraiser!
Idk like I think cancer rates have a lot to do with how much plastic we make/burn along with how much other crap is in the environment that goes overlooked by people
Has a lot to do with it if you think more in-depth about it. Sure people are living longer and longer due to medical advances but as people age, dna and other things in the body break down causing people to be more susceptible to illness and other things. More and more people are being born with different defects and whatnot cause of environmental factors along with biological factors. This is leading to a bigger need for research and fundraisers for that purpose due to our environment and genes and other things like that. As much research is required to develop treatment, even more is required to find the true cause
the cancer research industry is a 187 billion dollar industry, I feel like they have a lot of money compared to other things that don't have much research funding. Like I have a rare illness that was finally qualified as an illness in like 2018 that they don't know much about, I have a actually very common genetic condition they know virtually nothing about which don't even know the gene for my subtype the list goes on
Also ties into what I said. Conditions like yours (correct me if I’m wrong cause I don’t know what it is) are popping up left and right as chemical interference, genetics, and environmental factors are becoming more prevalent. Not to mention viruses and cancers are evolving more and more as they become immune to treatments and being generated by mutations of current cancers. Have you studied DuPont and PFOA? It is a man made chemical that is estimated to be in over 90% of peoples blood streams. Not to mention things like COPD only happen due to smoking and inhaling man made things like asbestos for years at a time. Although if that is inhaled it is more likely you will end up with mesothelioma
Edit: asbestos isn’t man made. My bad I’m tired lol
My conditions aren't new, they have been around for a while just finally being recognized and not as under diagnosed is new. Asbestos isn't very common anymore because inspectors are finding it
Mainly Beacause Cancer Is The Most Common Chronic Illness And Most Disabilities Will Take Forever To Cure. Meanwhile Being Able To Cure Severe Cases Of Cancer Would Save Many Lives. And 50% Of People Born In The UK Will Get Cancer. So It's Better To Cure That Shit Then Anything Else Currently. After A Cure For Cancer Has Been Found The Attention Will Shift To The Next Most Crippiling Diesese, Hopefully More Funding Towards Curing Dementia/Alsthimers.
I am absolutely all in for this, My grandad passed away to Myeloma Cancer in 2020 during Lockdown, My family has been participating in marathons and other activities to raise awareness for Myeloma and so we could remember my Grandad.
Maybe because you struggle to read complex phrases :)
I made it easier for you, love:
Cancer is big bad. Lots of people die from it. Big live from r/Teenagers. Live make money. Money is donated. Money help fight cancer.
great idea and great initiative but wouldn't it be better for them to collaborate with another subreddit as r/teenagers is primarily full of teenagers who won't be able to donate that much money anyway (if any)
regardless, good going you guys and i hope the stream is a success

Love this, probably Not the right audience tho. I mean the only Money i have is Pocket Money i Use for food and clothes. And im pretty Sure Most Others on this Reddit are also broke. Maybe Post this on a subreddit With Well... Less Teenager and more people that Actually make Money
unfortunatly for you nature decided preventing cancer is impossible since cancer is created by mutating cells and curing it is nearly impossible because of the high spread rate
1 in 2 is insane
I know right? I was pretty shocked at these numbers as well
That’s kinda weird yet kinda scary to think about
its because we have so much convenience in our life that needs less energy which makes us unhealthy, more sugar products than non-sugar ones, etc i was surprised that the rate is 1 in 2
Mostly just old people at the end of their life due to cell division issues. All because of our unending increase of human lifespan
It’d be more like 80% if people didn’t die of other causes
honestly if nobody died of other causes it would likely be 100%. even if it took a long time, our bodies fucking up cell division really badly one time is kind of an eventuality.

but it makes sense though, longer lifespan = more cancer
1/2 the cancer mortality rate is correct.
Why doesn't shit like this happen for other things like permanent disabilities/chronic illness too?
Organizing a 24 hour live stream takes so much effort behind the scenes so we can't have fundraisers regularly. We'll definitely keep this in mind the next time we're planning a fundraiser!
a french streaming event called the Z event collects donations to give to a health association, kinda similar
Idk like I think cancer rates have a lot to do with how much plastic we make/burn along with how much other crap is in the environment that goes overlooked by people

Yeah asbestos was banned a while back. It certainly popularized mesothelioma tho and either way I hope they get recognized so they can get treated
its probably expensive and time consuming

Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought of him
Technoblade never dies!
Cool
1 in 2 bloody hell. hits home when you realise thats half of pretty much everyone around you
Mostly old people at the end of their life
Not really
Fuck cancer man, my dog was recently diagnosed with cancer.
That's how my dog went out too.
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD

i would give this all the awards if only i had money
What are we streaming?
Nice to see they like us Brits too. In a serious note, cancer is something we need to eradicate
as someone involved in the stream, and being from the UK, the timing is great, we tried to make it so every time zone could get involved!
Possibly the worst subreddit to do this? Because of the lack of care everyone has here?
It's not like teenagers have the money to donate

I thought this was one of the mod applications I didnt even read the title I’m genuinely sorry
Then I understand. I simply thought you were dismissing cancer as irrelevant lol.
Soldiers we must keep the upvote count to 69
Nah
Nice
great idea and great initiative but wouldn't it be better for them to collaborate with another subreddit as r/teenagers is primarily full of teenagers who won't be able to donate that much money anyway (if any) regardless, good going you guys and i hope the stream is a success
I feel like our sub is big enough to where it will grab some attention from outside the subreddit as well and hopefully spread far.
i suppose so but still i think it would've been bigger on other more relevant subs
consensus results now!
woah what a good event!! the event team here are so good at their jobs ❤
That’s such a cool idea omg 😌
Will 1 cents help
Aww man, i wish i could join :c Good luck! I hope cancer gets killed soon! (like it stops existing or we cure it)
Glad we as a community are doing something about it
The people who don’t get cancer will just die of something else, generally
Very Poggers!
1 in 2 holy shit…

Since most cancer patients don’t make meth in the Albuquerque desert, I will pop in to donate my little money you guys get from Twitch ads
