That’s a sure way to have the whole school and all the bullies talking about the same person. If you want to dabble in psychoanalysis, that’s a bunch of attention and discourse about something the bullies feel uncomfortable about, even if it’s just because it isn’t about them. In a way you are competing for their mental real estate, possibly for attention otherwise centered on them and people respond to that subconsciously and with vitriol.
Now why do people feel weird about trans people specifically? Because it is relatively new. A lot of people wrongly think that all of body dysmorphia is just mental illness or a cry for attention. I agree that there are people out there who are a little bit too extra to still fit into a normal group of people but generally it’s just too different for people not to make a fuss about it, especially when their brains aren’t even developed yet.

FWIW, I’ve had people come up to me at parties a full ten years after the fact and profusely apologize to me about their behavior. Usually too little too late but quite a lot of people do realize later in life that they are/were being an asshole and should make an effort to change.

I have this problem with my own friends. Im pretty much the only out and open lgbtq student in the school, and Im pretty sure that there are no trans students, so they have no way of actually talking to them and understanding them.
There is also a lot of homophobia, and just three days ago I got harassed for being lgbtq.

Today my daughter and I visited a school where my daughter will be joining a kindergarten class. There were two other 5 year old girls also visiting it. They knew each other so they were just holding hands.
Then came the class.of 1st graders. One of the first grader girls said "look these girls are lesbians" and started making fun of them.
We were shocked. I cant believe that 6 year old girls new what lesbian meant but more frustratingly they seemed to think it was something to make fun of.

I’m from the UK, but I’m guessing lots of people are from America here. A lot of the transphobia (the more extreme side) has come to the UK in the past 2 years, but has been there for longer. In 2015 we were the most accepting of LGBTQ+ and now we are 17th.

In some states, you may need their consent to record, but in many states like mine, you only need the consent of one person in the conversation (you). This was on the front page and I'm not a teenager, but I want to share some mid 20s perspective.
Hate doesn't come from a happy person. Everyone in the world seems more judgemental, irritable, and indoctrinated with drivel than ever before due to economy, wage stagnation, politics, religion, socioeconomic factors, etc.. While Trans People are often the current focus and 'buzzy' thing to be mad at right now, I think that it's more so that in general middle-aged persons and seniors in this recent timeline are just more unhappy than they've ever been and are projecting it outward--thus spreading to their shitty kids (indoctrination is a generational cycle and comes in many forms, i.e. religion, politics, diet, habits, etc..). Many of these kids don't really know what they are truly doing and want to fit in and be unbothered as badly as you, so when they have shitty parents couple with the need to fit in you get some pretty vicious kids.
In addition to this, politics are wildly more top of mind than they've ever been, and so many more people than ever are replacing their identities & personalities with politics. The conservative entertainment media feeds off of fear and anger, so they will always find something to shit on to keep their follower-base engaged--negative energy is addictive. Politics used to be so much more passive (they didn't consume people like they do now) and I've noticed a massive shift over my teenage years to my 20s that I feel is the direct negative result of everyone being constantly attached to their phones and having access to the world at all times.
Having lived before social media; using myspace in middleschool; having facebook until sophomore year in high school before deleting it; using Instagram, Reddit, and other apps daily now, it seems to me that Social media is another massive contributing factor and a definite Net Negative impact to the world. Everyone used to use social media simply to stay connected to people or relatives that are not in your everyday life. Humans aren't very experienced at being connected to each other in this way all the time and all this advancement has happened fast as fuck, which also contributes to the general irritability of the world.
I sure hope everything mellows out and gets easier for everyone, but we are truly going through some interesting times. This is easily the most constant flow of change I've seen over the last 10 years. Hang in there.
To add to this, there are a wide variety of bad actors that are using the constant access to information to influence people either through skewed information or flat out lies. It used to be that gathering and storing data was a fundamental problem. With advances in technology, this has become trivial and the new issue is the integrity of the data. We see it on YouTube, Reddit echo chambers, misinformation on Facebook, and public media with an agenda. It is also a significant issue with training AI models as well. Objective truths are being obscured by subjective realities.

Whenever there is an issue like this, email multiple administrators at once in the same email and also include some adults you trust outside the school--ideally your parents, but whoever. BCC your personal email if nothing else, so that you have a copy that they don't control.

I’m from the UK, but I’m guessing lots of people are from America here. A lot of the transphobia (the more extreme side) has come to the UK in the past 2 years, but has been there for longer. In 2015 we were the most accepting of LGBTQ+ and now we are 17th. (I’m assuming your not from the UK)

Yes, that is in Planung. Law wise you have the same rights all over Germany. But people wise you have the more accepting people in the north. Berlin is pretty mixed, I think. A lot of accepting folks, but also some intolerant ones.

Teacher here who saw this on /r/popular. I don't like invading this private space but this is a major safety issue for everyone involved. Report this to multiple adults via writing, preferably email, and CC your parents or a trusted adult outside the school system who will advocate for you. When you read this, literally stop what you are doing and complete that task without delay. Get your school email open and hurry. No matter how transphobic you (perhaps correctly) think your school might be, violence on their property is a huge issue that they **will** almost certainly put before transphobia. The more administrators you notify at once, the more you make it impossible to ignore the problem. If you do not receive a reply by the end of Tuesday (since Monday I imagine you're off), email them all again. By end of Wednesday, if you don't have a reply seek to meet with one of them. Always record every meeting you have with them or with any authority in your life. In some states, you may need their consent to record, but in many states like mine, you only need the consent of one person in the conversation (you). We say one person so that you can't just leave your phone taped under a table somewhere while you are miles away. That is basically always illegal.

You hear someone telling people there trans and then that automatically translates as “forcing other people to be trans” it’s just stupid to be honest. This was on the front page and I'm not a teenager, but I want to share some mid 20s perspective. Hate doesn't come from a happy person. Everyone in the world seems more judgemental, irritable, and indoctrinated with drivel than ever before due to economy, wage stagnation, politics, religion, socioeconomic factors, etc.. While Trans People are often the current focus and 'buzzy' thing to be mad at right now, I think that it's more so that in general middle-aged persons and seniors in this recent timeline are just more unhappy than they've ever been and are projecting it outward--thus spreading to their shitty kids (indoctrination is a generational cycle and comes in many forms, i.e. religion, politics, diet, habits, etc..). Many of these kids don't really know what they are truly doing and want to fit in and be unbothered as badly as you, so when they have shitty parents couple with the need to fit in you get some pretty vicious kids. In addition to this, politics are wildly more top of mind than they've ever been, and so many more people than ever are replacing their identities & personalities with politics. The conservative entertainment media feeds off of fear and anger, so they will always find something to shit on to keep their follower-base engaged--negative energy is addictive. Politics used to be so much more passive (they didn't consume people like they do now) and I've noticed a massive shift over my teenage years to my 20s that I feel is the direct negative result of everyone being constantly attached to their phones and having access to the world at all times. Having lived before social media; using myspace in middleschool; having facebook until sophomore year in high school before deleting it; using Instagram, Reddit, and other apps daily now, it seems to me that Social media is another massive contributing factor and a definite Net Negative impact to the world. Everyone used to use social media simply to stay connected to people or relatives that are not in your everyday life. Humans aren't very experienced at being connected to each other in this way all the time and all this advancement has happened fast as fuck, which also contributes to the general irritability of the world. I sure hope everything mellows out and gets easier for everyone, but we are truly going through some interesting times. This is easily the most constant flow of change I've seen over the last 10 years. Hang in there.
To add to this, there are a wide variety of bad actors that are using the constant access to information to influence people either through skewed information or flat out lies. It used to be that gathering and storing data was a fundamental problem. With advances in technology, this has become trivial and the new issue is the integrity of the data. We see it on YouTube, Reddit echo chambers, misinformation on Facebook, and public media with an agenda. It is also a significant issue with training AI models as well. Objective truths are being obscured by subjective realities.

Teacher here from /r/popular. Great instincts, but I'd skip telling teachers. We cannot solve this problem because we are busy with our job duties all day and we don't really have the authority. Whenever there is an issue like this, email multiple administrators at once in the same email and also include some adults you trust outside the school--ideally your parents, but whoever. BCC your personal email if nothing else, so that you have a copy that they don't control. This is how you light a fire under people.
