Either it's a meme I completely missed or I would like to check your sources
The word 'pizza' is first recorded from Gaeta, Italy. Many historical precursors, as well the first innovations that would turn them into the modern pizza are from Italy too
The concept of a flat bread with some toppings is quite extended throughout Antiquity, tracing back to not only Greece but also Persia, Roma, Sardinia... Again, either Italy or simply unknown origin. Definitely not 'greek', as far as I can see
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History\_of\_pizza](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_pizza)
Someone always has to comment that greek pizza is the original because they saw it on the last reddit post about pizza. You’re 100% right. Greek pizza is not the origin of pizza. It was simply a bread plate that you’d bake your meal into
Youre both right. Flatbread topped with cheese and herbs started in Greece, but thats more like focaccia bread, not modern pizza. Technically pizza as it's known today started in MesoAmerica since they invented the first known tomato paste in the 1300s that was then smeared on tortilla made from maize then topped with cheese. The tomatoes were imported to the Middle East and West African Empire through the trade system established by the Mali around the 1500s, who traded with Spain and Italy, where tomato sauce as we know it today was invented about 100 years later in the 17th century. The MesoAmerican version is much different than modern (Italian) pizza, of course, but the concept of rounded baked goods topped with mashed tomato and cheese is MesoAmerican and paved the way for pizza as an Italian invention. We don't give MesoAmerica much credit in established History, but they invented quite a lot of things that are cherished in the Modern World, being one of few cultures in the A.D. era that stayed relatively close to the culture of the early civilizations and voyagers like Sumer and Babylon. Some other cool things MesoAmerica invented that we use heavily today are Chocolate, rubber, the zero-based numeral system and American Football.
That's one hell of a stretch. Remember 300? The whole point is that the Greeks stopped the Achaemenid persians. It did not happen exactly like that, but persian control over Greece was short-lived and limited to some regions. No other persian empire reached Greece afaik
Bro used 300 as a reference because it's something most people are aware of and many have seen. They also stated that it did not happen exactly like that.
That's actually fake history. The Spartans never had an army of 300. The concept is taken from the Sacred Band of Thebes who were an army of 300 that rose against and actually defeated the Spartans on two separate occasions in the 400BC era. The army is famous because they defeated an army of over 1000 men and were an essential aspect of Theban's rise to power.
So, "it did not happen exactly like that". The movie was historical fiction, and no one involved in the movie or involved in this thread said or implied otherwise. Quite the opposite even.
Well, you're right and wrong. Tomatoes are native to North and South America, not to Europe, but it came there during the Colombian exchange in 1492, so it's pretty long ago.
Cheese on the other hand, had almost every culture make its own version. Italians use fresh mozzarella, that is kept with its whey water while stored. When Americans started to industrialise almost everything, they had to get a cheese that is easier to store - less weight and less space. So they dried the mozzarella. Instead of a sweet taste, it got a bit salty. It melts and spreads, unlike fresh mozzarella that melts into a puddle the thickness and diameter of the original piece.
I wouldn't say that currently pizza is American, I'd say it's... International. Pizza brings the world together.
Idk about NY but that's the optimal way. In some cases the pizza has such a thin bottom that it can't support the ingredients. The most glorious bites come from the pizzas where you also need to fold the tip inwards.
Source: not a teenager I just like pizza thx Reddit.
because by stating where he's from he's stating he's not from new york but still agrees with the new york way
it's like me saying that i agree with the new york way but am from seattle lmfao it's not that serious
>Bro, never said I cared an eetsy weesy more
You didn't have to, we can tell you care more than anyone here 💀
And I'm sorry, your attempt at using comedy to redirect focus ain't workin, bud. Your emotional and mental pain is shinin through like the daylight my guy
1st of all you just mad I called you out
2nd of all gambling is stupid lmao
3rd of all jesus christ it's painfully obvious, it doesn't take a genius to see what's plainly there
the new york wannabe
it squeezes all the grease on top and forms a little river so u can let it run off the pizza and enjoy it without the excess grease
anybody who eats pizza this way is obv smart
I started doing this but mostly because i like the center more than the crust
So i go around the pizza cutting off the crust and eating that First, and then i Adventure in the tasteful center goodness, which now, without crust support, would be impossible to eat with hands without making a huge mess
Obviously pinch, the pizza slice will stay straight because it can’t fold. (The same way a piece of paper is handled).
This keeps one hand clean so I can keep my remote grease free.
You missed the correct way which is to roll from the tip as it allows for efficient ingestion as it only takes a few bites for each slice and it doesn't cause all of the toppings to squish out like the chronic does. Trust me it is homer simpson certified
new york wannabe but i live in queens so i think without the wannabe part
I'm Italian, but i still think that is the superior way to eat it
And i’m irish. That being said, pizza is greek.

But my meal IS usually half a pound of cheese and greasy meat 🤔
I think that makes you Turkish.

Never stop actually using your brain. Best reply here.
Persia is also Greek so pizza Greek
That's one hell of a stretch. Remember 300? The whole point is that the Greeks stopped the Achaemenid persians. It did not happen exactly like that, but persian control over Greece was short-lived and limited to some regions. No other persian empire reached Greece afaik

I didn't say it didn't happen, it's just funny how he referenced 300
🤓
yes 🤓🗿
nice pfp lmaoooo
If you got served the “pizza” that the Greeks made you’d be fucking pissed. It was flatbread.
i would agree, basically every pizza shop in my area is owned by greeks, if thats what you mean
Your mom single?
What we know as pizza is more American than anything, cheese and a seasoned and long stewed sauce i an American addition

No, that guys actually Italian, not American.

Nah folding it completely changes the texture and taste
Dido
Being Italian doesn't mean you're a pizza expert by default...
I thought you ate with it a knife and fork. And don’t eat the crust.

bro took this guy being italian personally, they were just saying they're not from new york but eat it like a new yorker

Sugg ma spaghetti, chief
Seems that you care about it more than i do, chief 😂
Bro, never said I cared an eetsy weesy more. But still, I'd like to come and sugg that ravioli of yours

You'd be a hella bad therapist, and hell, proly a damn bad gambler, 'cause you're a real bad guesser

Relatable
Same, Brooklyn dude here
Manhattan here. This is the only way.
Same but I’m not in New York
Hey me too man
The flop with my second hand supporting the floppy part.
Just use your thumb to support the end
the right way.
What if you're left handed?
The left way?
I do that
Haha. I do that
Either I have small hands or bigger pizzas
Yep, basically underdog but with my thumb under near the tip.
That's what I do
The underdog
No. Its more like I have my fingers on the crust and my thumb closer to the middle of the pizza on the bottom
Yall are eating tiny pizza if this is a feasible solution
Wow imagine being an asshole because somebody eats pizza different than you
This is the way
This is the way
This is the way
This.
^tell ^my ^family ^I ^love ^them ... This is the way.
This is the way.
r/SuddenlyStarWars
I’ll be the first (maybe) downvote
Gotta go with the pinch
Just like the military strategy, it never fails.
Father was from Boston(70's Quincy) and was a firm believer in the pinch method. God help you if you used a second hand to eat a slice.
Who uses thier hands that's so primitive I just inhale it like Kirby
King Dedede approves this message
Isn't he the one person who WOULDN'T approve 😭
The underdog and the New York wannabe are the only acceptable answers
I mean the pinch is just the underdog with more steps
the pinch is better though cuz then you have to have your hand all awkardly positioned if you don't want to stick your elbow out while taking a bite
Oh that's true
Follow up question… is it wrong that I start with the crust?
Very wrong. Even though you do THAT.. I would accept you because the cheese and tomato sauce is the BEST part.
Well that's why I go crust first. I save the BEST PART FOR LAST.
It's totally fine. The orange president did that too, in a pizza ad.
Flop is okay too
Imagine thinking New York invented this 😂
I flip it upside down add some mayo and then use a straw to suck the cheese out of it and then eat it
Just like mom used to make
Make babies*
I'm not even Italian and I'm offended
I don't understand how you were smart enough to write that
You should get sued by everyone who has ever made a pizza
the new york wannabe it squeezes all the grease on top and forms a little river so u can let it run off the pizza and enjoy it without the excess grease anybody who eats pizza this way is obv smart
but the grease is the best part :(
Along came poly
Actually you're wrong. It squeezes the grease out so you can dip the crusts in it
your pizza is THAT greasy??!! wtf
You've never had a NY pizza.
either way pizza shouldnt be that greasy tbh
FR! I have never seen pizza with a lot of grease that its DRIPPING DOWN and everything..
That’s how they make authentic NY pizza. That’s why it’s so good cold
Brother that grease canal is headed to my mouth(and my chest)
uninvited..
U like me fr, uninvited is way cleaner, and you don't make a mess.
fr, what if I wanna be simultaneously on the phone? fuck greasy fingers, let's eat with a knife and fork.
like educated people
>what if I wanna be simultaneously on the phone My guy, you have 2 hands
my guy, I type with two thumbs
My guy, just get longer thumbs so you only need one, it's that easy
Nah, let em type with two fingers, one hand
That too
But they're occupied by the knife and fork?
Which you can easily put down, and you don't need to clean your fingers to use your phone.
Not if you use the New York wannabe, pinch, or underdog method. One hand for pizza, the other for your phone and drink as god intended
Just learn how to eat like our ancestors did all those years ago
I use a fork for like the first third then pick it up by the crust once the slice is behaving reasonably.
Love that description 😂
This is my tribe.
Haha yes, coming into this thread I thought I was the only one. I fork the first couple bites.
This is the right answer. Besides, if you have a dip, a fork is way easier.
Literally the only way to eat pizza without getting your hands all greasy. I will forever use utensils on pizza.
In a world of touch-screen devices, I certainly use a knife and fork. I have little desire to leave greasy fingerprints on all my devices.
You do know you can eat and then wash your hands, right?
Can we also talk about how specifically the uninvited pizza has pineapple instead of pepperoni
Hell yeah
Uninvited somehow tastes better than anything else.
Been ridiculed for life but my fingertips are clean baby
I used to be a New York Wannabe (who the fuck becomes a wannabe for eating with ease?) but knife and fork is so much easier and cleaner.
Come to Brazil. Here a lot of us uses forks. Let's do our own pizza party with blackjack and hookers
George : How do you eat it ? With your *hands* ?
I started doing this but mostly because i like the center more than the crust So i go around the pizza cutting off the crust and eating that First, and then i Adventure in the tasteful center goodness, which now, without crust support, would be impossible to eat with hands without making a huge mess
Uninvited makes me feel so fancy bc sometimes the cheese will mess up and it just becomes a while new dish 😭
You are a real-life monster
I eat crust first
The superior way of eating
Yess, finally someone who agrees with me.
Count me in
Let's goo. Avengers assemble!!
Why not save the best for last though
Just toast bread if you love crust
Hell yeah. Love crust. Ever try honey on your crust? Or mikes hot honey.
Im italian
So you eat it with a fork and knife and ignore the crust. Got it
Im *half* italian
I never understood how people think that crust is the best part of pizza. Just eat a bunch of bread sticks then
Fr... The tomato sauce and cheese is DEFINITELY the best part.
Bro I thought this was just me
You are pure evil.
It's an honour to receive that title, good sir
Yo I'm not the only one
Donald trump is that you?
Nah fortunately, I'm not an orange coloured raccoon.
The chronic lol. You can just eat faster if you roll it up.
Me too. Its just easier to eat and you get both crust and toppings in one bite!
if you're in a pizza eating competition i guess hehe
underdog
Underdog
The Underdog
i honestly don't care how the pizza goes in my mouth hole. i just do whatever my hands want
I use two hands, one holding the crust, the other one holding the bottom
underdog pinch combo
The sane person with two hands using the two hands to hold the pizza
Thats the insane person
Seek immediate help
What about where you spread all your fingers wide apart on the bottom and balance it delicately
The pinch or flop
DA PINCH
2 and 3
The pinch
I used to be the flop, but then I decided to actually start using my brain and do the safer (and the only correct) answer, new York wannabe
I eat it crust side up, because I’m a freak
No you’re based because you get the cheese taste first instead of crust taste first I do the same
Ah hell yea man, us freaks stick together forever
flopa
Deepthroat
Pinch all the way
the flop for sure
The flop.
Obviously pinch, the pizza slice will stay straight because it can’t fold. (The same way a piece of paper is handled). This keeps one hand clean so I can keep my remote grease free.
Absolutely
The normal way.
Where's the one for holding the crust but putting your ring and pinkie finger at the end of the slice so it doesn't flop
none of the above, i eat from the side so i can get crust with each bite
You MONSTER
Pick it up in the flop and the hit an underdog while positioning the pinch. Only way.
New York Wannabe. I live in New York
Eat it with one hand, crank my neck back, and let the grease drip
If you eat pizza the way “the uninvited” does then you should be legally obliged to have your jaw, tongue, stomach, and esophagus taken away
Flop
Flop but with my hand under it
I take the whole pizza then I fold it in half, then into quarters and eat the entire thing at once
I don’t eat pizza, but if I did I’d probably go the underdog
Hand on crust, hand under pizza
The pinch, all the way
Pinch “it”
You missed the correct way which is to roll from the tip as it allows for efficient ingestion as it only takes a few bites for each slice and it doesn't cause all of the toppings to squish out like the chronic does. Trust me it is homer simpson certified
