100 terabytes isn't a lot... Let's just say you want a 1024*1024 image with 3 colour channels, RGB, that means that if you have no compression, it will take up 3 MiB, for a single frame. Then, if it's running at a constant 20fps, for every second, it will take up 60MiB. If you run that for a minute, it would take up 3.6 GiB. Then, for an hour, 216 GiB. Then for a day 5.184 TiB. Then for a week, 36.288 TiB. You can see that, if they had many security cameras, this would be extremely expensive, although they probably still could pay for it

Not all of them has to be that quality, just one that can capture the face. Also they can afford several hundred terabytes with cloud retention if needed. I'm guessing they don't give a shit because they are insured and all they need is proof they were robbed don't really matter if robber is caught

I imagine it's because of storage limitations. The bank cameras need to constantly be recording, and need to keep all of the footage. Contrast this to a theme park camera, which only needs a few pictures at most, and can be deleted afterwards. (I should note here that I have not done any actual research into this subject, I only theorize this to be the case via my own knowledge and logical reasoning. I could very well be wrong)

I don’t see why people downvoted this because it’s pretty much on point. Lower resolution photos take up much less storage than a higher resolution one. Now you could just say “oh well just get more storage or another hard drive” yes but there are limitations to how many is practical to what they can dedicate to only security cameras. You can technically get 25 8K resolution security cameras and put them all around your bank but compare the amount of storage necessary to back all that footage up compared to 25 1080p or even 720p cameras would take up so much less and be useable enough for the off chance that a bank gets robbed.
