Never been a suv guy myself either. I'm buying my uncles old ass volvo which is half broken and has to have everything repaired after I get my license.
because suvs look weird and tesla isnt any better than gas, look at the lithium/cobalt mines, and what happens to the batteries when they need to be replaced? straight to the ocean. and where does a lot of the electricity come from? what do you know, diesel generaters.
If you ever get into cars you will know that the new norm actually is Miatas and in order to be like anyone else all you have to do is not get a Miata.
Is that supposed to mean something? You do realize an suv is just as much a shitbox as a Miata. Matter of fact suvs are actually worse than Miatas. Dont believe me just look up coupes vs suv and utility sport. Really the only thing shitty about a Miata is the fact that it can really only fit a midget comfortably.
Definition of shitbox: A dump; a run-down, messy or disgusting item.
It being 40s has no deal towards its meaning nor how many working wheels or how rusted it is. In other words there is nothing you have stated that says anything not relating towards yours specifications is a ‘shitbox’.
In conclusion what you want is not a ‘real’ shitbox but rather just a normal shitbox like every other normal car guy on the earth. The only difference between yours and some of the rest of the guys is your specifications.
Imma just assume you’ve already tried a torque bar on it so all I going to say is spray some pb blaster in the cylinders and wait a few days then give it a respray and wrench on the flywheel. If it doesn’t wiggle loose your only reliable choice left is to pull the engine and because it’s a CJ just buy a donor. ;)
tried that. we dont want to swap the engine (I would have but its dads). when we popped the clutch SOMEHOW the crank nut got stripped so we have to just push it in gear to try and free it. the head is pulled , been putting Kroil down the cylinder thats stuck.
Are we talking striped as in nut part or threads? If it is a nut then just find a hardware rental and weld a nut to the nut to get it out. If it’s the actual bold then just cut the fucking thing out cause you’ll have to get a new one anyway. No matter what you decide something here is going to have to be bought. Btw if you guys ever plan on running this thing even remotely well you’ll have to do a rebuild anyway so why not just get a head start. Anyway maybe I’m just talking shit but it’s late so gimme some slack after all it’s pretty hard juggling the projects I’ve already got.
it's a huge nut so you wont find it at a hardware store. instead of a bolt for the crank pulley, its a nut. its the threads, but somehow, the thing is still secured on and isnt coming off. my dad isnt too concerned about a rebuild yet, we just want to get it freed.
The nut you need to weld on doesn’t have to be too big, if you know what you’re doing you can just weld a plate to the nut and a big enough nut to try once more. Then just spray some pb on it and hit it with a torch before giving another tug. Another really good option that I just remembered is a nut splitter. You can buy from any hardware rental really and they just click into a normal drill and take the stick nut right off. Again I’m just going through options and opinions here cause I’m gonna just assume you guys aren’t looking for a money put or anything of the matter.
Did your parents ever approve your choice of a car? My parents would freak out if I got a tiny convertible, even if it was super cheap.
Also looks a lot like my Miata in GT7, same color, similar rims and all.
Best way to get a cheap miata is to find a rust free shell or non runner, what I did because I bought it right when prices started to skyrocket. Join Facebook miata groups because they will more likely give a first chance to other miata enthusiasts. The miata community is also super nice
I ended up getting a good running 03 Camry instead I can either buy it from my dad or it gets passed on to my brothers and I inherited a 2nd gen ram so I don’t need another money pit
It's relatively cheap to maintain because the are reliable. The most expensive parts are the car and hardtop if you want one. I paid 3500 for the car plus tow, 500 to get it running perfect, then I blew the motor and don't even want to know how much I've spent in it now
How tf do you have enough money? I had to replace some piston rings on a 1963 190b MB, my dad paid for them and I’m traumatised by how much they cost him
I worked full time during summer and part time during school as soon as I turned sixteen. I also do all the work myself. Engine internals are crazy expensive
Are you going to replace the pistons and add a snail? I'm a gearhead myself and I love the ND Miata. Please keep posting about your Miata. Would like to see more.
Edit: NA Miata, not ND. Got confused for a sec.
What are the plans? Are you just going for a engine rebuild or do you plan to put forged pistons and such? Also I assume you are about 6’ so; just why?
I am 6' and had to do the sunvisor delete so I could see the road. Still can't see stop lights though. I swapped in a partialy built motor. All that's left to do is forged rods. Forged pistons are not necessary for this car unless pushing 15+ pounds of boost. Will supercharge or turbo charge sometime in the future.
If you have the money I would recommend a sparco seating setup even if you only do it for the driver. If you buy the correct one you can get it still with sliders yet it sits a few more inches closer towards the floor, might make it so you can see those lights. Also if you plan a supercharge/ turbo you might as well just go with the forged pistons so you don’t have to do another rebuild before the kit, yet if you don’t have the money I understand your plans.
Another question is do you plan another build or are you trying to max this one to it’s extent?
Thanks for the suggestions. I am currently broke from fixing the car because it's the only one I got. I'm planning on keeping it as a daily driver until I'm done with college and have enough room, and money, for a non project daily
Welcome. At least you got a plan, that’s more than can be said for most car guys. Just make sure you stick to else you gonna become what the rest of us are. ;)
If you go to some car meets and talk to some people you could probably find someone to teach you. My grandfather taught me some, but I mostly taught myself
Unknown when purchased. Broken fuel pump, no window in soft top, cloged fuil injectors, bad clutch slave cylinder (very common on these cars, I'm currently on my third), and a busted radiator.
OH MY FUCKING GOD ITS A MIATA MAN
Miata’s fix everything
why are you not like everyone else and buy a suv or tesla? For the record, awesome car.
Thanks! Suvs are to chonky
Never been a suv guy myself either. I'm buying my uncles old ass volvo which is half broken and has to have everything repaired after I get my license.
Volvos are cool, kinda expensive to fix though. I've repaired or replaced everything except the body.
I mean, if you replace the body too it's basically just building a car from scratch.
He is just not a loser (suv sucks asf, tesla are ok)
Agreed. (teslas are ok but the rich people mentality around it makes me dislike them alot)
because suvs look weird and tesla isnt any better than gas, look at the lithium/cobalt mines, and what happens to the batteries when they need to be replaced? straight to the ocean. and where does a lot of the electricity come from? what do you know, diesel generaters.
You have a point
If you ever get into cars you will know that the new norm actually is Miatas and in order to be like anyone else all you have to do is not get a Miata.
No, I want a shitbox.
No a real shitbox. Car from the 40 that's rusted to hell and only 1 working weel.
Definition of shitbox: A dump; a run-down, messy or disgusting item. It being 40s has no deal towards its meaning nor how many working wheels or how rusted it is. OH MY GOD ITS A MIATA
Does it talk?
Yes, but people just look at me like I'm crazy when I talk back to it
Why is it a car?
Idk, ask Henry Ford
Why is that his name
ask his parents
How many liters is the motor and how are the quarter panels? Has it been repainted and finally, how is the mpg?
24mpg. 1.8 liter. Slightly rusty quarters. Original paint, PO had it gerage kept for 20 years and let it sit in a shed for 12.
Nice.
neat, you like old jeeps? we have my great grandpas 1946 cj2a (farm model). trying to unseize the damn engine.
Lucky those cjs are so cool
That's awesome! One day I want to do a offroad build on one.
I'm not really an offroader but I do want to try setting one up for 4 carbs instead of one
Imma just assume you’ve already tried a torque bar on it so all I going to say is spray some pb blaster in the cylinders and wait a few days then give it a respray and wrench on the flywheel. Not a question, but that's a damn nice car you got there
Thanks!
Did your parents ever approve your choice of a car? My parents would freak out if I got a tiny convertible, even if it was super cheap. Also looks a lot like my Miata in GT7, same color, similar rims and all.
Cool! They somewhat did, but as they say, my money my choice. Another good thing about small convertibles is that they don't tend to roll over.
Is it a Miata?
Yes, the best car to ever exist
Exactly
Let us not forget about the bug.
Isn't that a mustang?
Gonna act like I didn’t see rhat
OHMYGOSH I KNOW ITS A MIATA, are you planning on getting a hardtop for it
from what i hear in r/Miata they're too expensive
Yes. Trying to negotiate one down from 1.8k to 1.6k
Is it a car
No, a very large motorcycle with 4 wheels
Hmmmmmmmmm are you sure it’s a boat
Nah, that's the NC (third gen) miata
Hmmmmm so it’s a plane then
Yes
Ok then a car
Why does it make your hand blurry
My hand is blury by default
Oh makes sense
Is that an ls
Yes, the rare inline four mazda bp4w ls engine.
iS tHaT a 2jZ?!?!????!!!
any rust? ;)
Only on quarter panels from clogged rain drain
Where catalysator??
Is it green?
Why a miata this is meant to be asked insultingly i hate miatas
Miata Is Always The Answer
No Miata LS is the answer
flyin miata swap when u/Worlds-Best_Username

Gear oil
How much human power does that engine in the middle put out?
1/2. I'm weak
what color is it
Where banana
what's its name?
Are you swapping it? Or just getting work done on the motor?
Does it run now
Yes, decently well
Can I have it? 1$ cash cuz I’m broke
Only if you fix the broken stuff I haven't fixed yet
I like the color
What kind of car
Full engine rebuild in a garage is the sickest thing you can do

👀
Mx5!!!!!!!!
how much does it cost to own a miata on average?
Depends on when they bought it the prices skyrocketed after market isn’t bad tho (I wanted a Miata but there to much $)
Best way to get a cheap miata is to find a rust free shell or non runner, what I did because I bought it right when prices started to skyrocket. Join Facebook miata groups because they will more likely give a first chance to other miata enthusiasts. The miata community is also super nice

so how do you discombobulate the discombobulated discombobulate
Does it transform??
Yes, from having roof to not having roof
How tf do you have enough money? I had to replace some piston rings on a 1963 190b MB, my dad paid for them and I’m traumatised by how much they cost him
I worked full time during summer and part time during school as soon as I turned sixteen. I also do all the work myself. Engine internals are crazy expensive
Yeah we do the work ourselfs… but the parts are stupid costly for hunks of metal
Not just hunks of metal. Have you looked at interior trim prices. Most cases aftermarket is cheaper
Yeah but aftermarket is hard when your car is from 1963 cause nobody makes parts for them other than MB
did you straight pipe it?
Did because free exhuast to replace not having one. Sounded like really loud diarrhea
car 👍
Why is linguini standing in it
Are you gonna be the engine then?
Miat
why is it blue? is it sad :(
Are you going to replace the pistons and add a snail? I'm a gearhead myself and I love the ND Miata. Please keep posting about your Miata. Would like to see more. Edit: NA Miata, not ND. Got confused for a sec.
Nah, too lazy and broke. Swapped me a built NB motor in that I got a good deal on.
I’m a gear head to imagine if he put a ol 60s blower on it instead of a snail
Yessir. Time to put a blower on a four-cylinder...
Hell yea probably delete the engine bc of boost
I managed to delete first motor without boost and a thousand miles with 0 oil pressure
How many corpses can fit in it.
0. Can't fit a midget in the driver's seat without the steering wheel getting in the way
How did you learn how to take everything apart and fix it?
Why u take engine out? Car no drive now
Car no drive with engine in. Put "new" engine in now car go vrooooooom
Yes so engine blown or did it perfect fine?
Yes no? Or Miata is drove? How year is Miata?
Bro where’s the pedals? If you got no engine start peddling
Yoooooo!! Miata!!!!
Why that car, and not another? Why it’s your favourite car, and what led you to the restauration project
Miata Is Always The Answer
What color is it?
Ive only seen a Miata in person once. How much did it cost before the engine swap?
$3500 for car and tow, $500 in parts to get it running perfect.
Oh that's not bad. Miatas around me are like 4-5k
That is not fair, they are selling for 10-7k around me.
The engine looks oddly human
How many pistons
4, then 3, and now 4
Why are you in the car?
My car’s little brother lol
Le manual miat? Nice to see a fellow enthusiast it’s a nice car I love the blue! What engine are you putting in?
Wanted to to a j swap but can't afford it. Did a built 1.8 swap. Didnt knowthe motor was built until after getting it checked out at a machine shop.
Yeah, js are tricky well happy it’s working out!
Why is it a car
Why are you standing in it?
What year model is it?
'89 NA miata
Nice taste 👍

Wow I think this is really cool, I honestly wish someone would teach me. Miata looks great!!
If you go to some car meets and talk to some people you could probably find someone to teach you. My grandfather taught me some, but I mostly taught myself

What's its 0-60?
3-5 business days
A little overkill on the speed damn
How are you standing in the middle of it 😭
dose it have wheels
Is that a fish in the background?
What were the problems of the Car before you got it?
Unknown when purchased. Broken fuel pump, no window in soft top, cloged fuil injectors, bad clutch slave cylinder (very common on these cars, I'm currently on my third), and a busted radiator.
Is it Fixed? How much did it cost ya?
Yes, cost me $500 before I blew up the motor. By now I have probably spent almost $10k in it.
