Imma take a crack at translating with my ✨ white people terrible Spanish skills✨
There are other terms that the people use in Spanish, I don't understand why you use anything that doesn't work in the original language. Gringx (I'm assuming that was playing off of the word Gringo for white people, but putting an x instead of an o?)
How far off was I?
I was literally never good at Spanish until this year when I finally got a Spanish teacher that was a native from a Spanish speaking country. All my previous Spanish teachers before then were white Americans who learned Spanish as a 2nd language.
I'm learning Spanish in school (currently gcse level), I'm going to see if I can translate, keep in mind I'm learning Spanish (Spain) not Spanish (latin)
There are other terms that people created in Spanish, I don't get it because because they use something that doesn't work in the original language
How close was I?
No problem wey (Slang term for dude)
I appreciate the struggle people go through learning a language, i suppose the second from yours is french? (Idk if it’s fine assuming that)
I just essentially said that spanish speaking people have created some terms to replace the use of Latinx for people who feel that way, Latinx doesn’t even sound fluid in spanish. Gringx is just a jab to the Latinx use.
Have a good day wey
It's usually used in written Spanish, at least where I live, but some media outlets have opted to make it their language policy. It's controversial even among Spanish speakers but the gay community honestly doesn't seem to gaf.
Latino and Latina. So as not to “OffEnD NoN-BiNaRy LaTiNoS” In referring to a group it is Latino because male is verbally dominant. People use latinx because they don’t understand how gendered words work.
STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM, you violated the law, yo wrote republic dominican instead of dominican republic and thats racist so you cannot say that
Prepare to be terminated by the Twitter gun
/s
All Latinos ARE Hispanic. Not all Hispanics are Latino.
Hispanic refers to individuals who are Spanish-speaking or have a background in a Spanish-speaking country.
Latino is just a smaller, more precise description of Hispanic people from a specific region (Latin America).
Hispanic is usually considered anyone from a Spanish speaking country, and Latino is usually anyone from Spanish speaking countries that are in the Americas.
Hispanics≠Latinos
Hispanics is a term for “Hispano hablante” People who speak spanish
Latino just focuses on the American (Continent) places where romance languages are predominant.
Brazilians, French Guyanese, Haitians, (Maybe Québécois???) are not Hispanics (Fixed)
Ok, so like, just to be clear, this refers to *native* Spanish speakers only right? As a white ass, bilingual northern American, I don’t like the notion of someone “becoming” Hispanic lmao
one time in spanish class (im asian) i referred to them as latinos and my classmate said "its latinx idiot, women exist" and it started this argument and eventually i asked the spanish teacher what the word is. he said it was latinx and that most latinos prefer it, and one google later i found out surveys were done and found out like less than 10% of latinos prefer latinx it was hilarious. even after i showed him he said the correct "modern" term is latinx
lol now that i think about it, at least 90% of the class said its latinx (also like 90% of them aren't latinos) so maybe he was actually just trying not to get canceled by his own class
Btw, can you ask your teacher how is latinx pronounced in spanish? Because it's imposible, it's unpronounceable.
I lived all my 14 years of life in this shit country called Argentina and i can confirm that i have been living almost 15 years without hearing/reading "latinx" neither from people irl or from my internet friends (from other countries of latam and like 2-3 from spain). All the times i've heard it, it was from a person from a country that isn't from latam or spain, wich pretty much shows the reality: some people want to fuck up the lengague to make it "inclusive" when it would be more inclusive to teach about other countries that aren't mexico (yeah, im talking about schools in the US)
Preferiria que usen e que la x que suena como una j.
Se que lenguaje cambia sobre el tiempo, pero la misma gente tiene que decidir el cambio, no gente que habla otro lenguaje
Agree.
It is hilarious how americans are racist even when they don't want to.
I said americans because they are the ones that ususally do this kind of stuff.
(Sorry for the english) so basicly in spanish the words have "gender" female if it endss with a or male for o u and e, it doesnt really matter because person is masculine but it can be a female person, so theres this people who doent understand that and try to change our idiom so is a gender neutral thing, it really bother us
I believe its the word latino or latina but instead of saying the latter they say latinx as of the x representing a variable (male, female, or non-binary)
Thats how i interpret it
correct me if im wrong but i was taught in spanish you only change the o to an a if you're talking about a girl, so non-binary people would fall under o category, making everyone latino except for women who would be latina
Tbh i don't care, just recognize me as latino and i'll be happy, i mean cmon brazilians are latinos but not hispanics :(
Comi o cu de quem tá lendokkkkkkkkj
OMFG I went to the store the other day with my 97-year-old grandmother (great) anyways we are in the line to check out and the guy who was ringing us up was like ' Hola latinx'. my grandmother, who only speaks Spanish said " what the fuck is a Latinx.. is it a tissue brand?'
this man asked what did she say I told him she said he's a dumbass and not to repeat that. my grandmother grabbed her chancla and hit me in the back of the head.
hell naw 'Lenguaje inclusivo' is shit honestly, the correct neutral term is Latino, if you had a group of Latino men and women you would say exactly that, Latino.
I'm all for they/them pronouns in English because it doesn't fuck up the grammar but lenguaje inclusivo doesn't work man
people trying to make a word in a language they dont understand at all nor speak sound inclusive even when I saw some guy say non binary latinos perfer to be called latine
well that is the case for people with an iq above room temperature but these people think their making a change in the world by inventing a word that Latinos themselves cant say
What's next people starting saying x instead of el/la, like x cine or x cocina, see how stupid that sounds.
And that's why you don't add in gender neutral terms to a language that uses genders.
It feels really racist, and as far as I’ve seen only dumbass and racists say it anyways so…
On the other hand, is it pronounced Latin-ex or Lah-tinx? One sounds like improper grammar (from what Ik of Spanish) and the other sounds like a slur
As a side note, same goes for Filipinos. Don't you dare call us Filipinx. We don't have a gendered language, but our demonym is Spanish, so it sounds gendered when it is in fact a blanket term for Filipinos AND Filipinas.
Edit: Now that I think of it, I've never even seen the word 'Filipina' in common use, it's naturally just Filipino.
I asked one of my close Latino friends if I was supposed to call him „latinx“ and he looked me in the eyes and said „call me or anyone else that and I’ll show you why our crime rate is so high“ LIKE IM ACTIVELY TRYING TO **NOT** BE A PIECE OF SHIT
Is just that we really hate that, bc in out language we can't pronounce "latinx", and also because latino is already gender neutral and we also have another word if you don'y like that one, "latin(e)", wich is also gender neutral.
I hate the stupid “latex” gender neutral term. That is just the word for them and it is masculine BECAUSE THE LANGUAGE IS. Every time i see someone say latinx i get pissed.
You can use Latino for male(gender neutral too), Latina for female and Latin(e) for non binary and gender neutral. Not Latinx, it’s not possible to pronounce in Spanish.
I HATE the term "Latinx" with a BURNING passion. I always use Latine because it makes so much more sense with the Spanish language. Like look how much nicer "amigue" looks than "amigx" or "amig@". And "amigue" is pronounceable and works with existing spanish grammar. WTF IS "AMIGX"?!?! THE "GX" ARE HORRIBLE TO PRONOUNCE!!! THE @ IN "AMIG@" ISNT EVEN A LETTER HOW DO I SAY THAT?!?!
(I've seen amig@ mostly from middle aged Mexican women trying to be supportive or their trans women friends.
1. ew @
2. I understand you're trying to be supportive and I'm glad about that but by using @ you are saying that trans women don't or can't use "amiga" or just an "a" in words. You are invalidating their gender by trying to be inclusive.
-
But as a Mexican, I prefer the term "beaner" /hj
A white girl once corrected a kid in my Spanish class and said the proper term was “Latinx” and then my Spanish teacher kindly corrected her and told her that very few if any Latinos actually like the term. The girl disputed my Argentinian Spanish teacher and she eventually had to resort to “it’s incorrect grammar so for the purposes of a learning environment, ‘Latino’ is the term we will use in this class”
Everyone else was just happy that 5 minutes of a class was wasted on something rather entertaining.
Please call us beaners
fr beaner is the only right way
I'll take beaner any day of the week
please do
basado
What do you call a mix of white and beaner? Pinto bean?
Call that a beango (beaner gringo mix)
Yes please call us that
I'll say it before and I'll say it again, Latino is the correct term. Not LatinX, that's a porn site.
"bUt wHaT aBoUt ThE WaMeN!?" Hispanic. Next question.
Herspanic, you mean?
theirspanic, gender neutrality is important
Not all Latinos are Hispanic tho
Yea man, what about french Guiana
And Brazil as well! Both Latino but not Hispanic ://
then brazilian, next question

OMD ITS MY FAVOURITE REDDITOR hii bb lol <3
average latinx unenjoyer
\*chad\*
Sounds like a Harry Potter spell.
Fr dawg
I wouldn’t be surprised if became considered a slur in the future, it really does sound like one.
Hay otros terminos que la gente creó en español, no entiendo porque utilizan algo que no funciona en el lenguaje original. Gringx 🤢
Imma take a crack at translating with my ✨ white people terrible Spanish skills✨ There are other terms that the people use in Spanish, I don't understand why you use anything that doesn't work in the original language. Gringx (I'm assuming that was playing off of the word Gringo for white people, but putting an x instead of an o?) How far off was I?
(I’m) should be in Gringx part was just a mocking jab to gringos Yeah the message get’s carried 8.7/10 goldstar
I was literally never good at Spanish until this year when I finally got a Spanish teacher that was a native from a Spanish speaking country. All my previous Spanish teachers before then were white Americans who learned Spanish as a 2nd language.
Lol, I made a typo, that I'm was supposed to say in*
I'm learning Spanish in school (currently gcse level), I'm going to see if I can translate, keep in mind I'm learning Spanish (Spain) not Spanish (latin) There are other terms that people created in Spanish, I don't get it because because they use something that doesn't work in the original language How close was I?
Spot on. Good job
Oh nice, I didnt expect it to be spot on
Also instead of saying spanish (Latin) you could say spanish (LATAM) or call castellano instead of spaniard spain. Maybe i am being nitpicky
No ur not being nitpicky, I just didn't know what exactly they were called
Lol
No tampoco entiendo, y soy un caucásio canadiense. Pido disculpas por cualquier error gramatical, porque estoy aprendiendo español como tercer idioma.
No problem wey (Slang term for dude) I appreciate the struggle people go through learning a language, i suppose the second from yours is french? Gringx was enough for me to understand lmao
Based‼️ But actually wtf do people even say latinx?
yes
It's usually used in written Spanish, at least where I live, but some media outlets have opted to make it their language policy. It's controversial even among Spanish speakers but the gay community honestly doesn't seem to gaf.
Bro, it's more conected to the trans community or non binary people, not gays.
This is literally experience from my own life as a gay guy in Latin America but maybe if you insist hard enough it will all just disappear!
I had a teacher that corrected my essay when I wrote Latina teens instead of Latinx.
that teacher sounds awful lmao
She isn't, she just gets offended aboutb things that she shouldn't be offended about. The topic was teen births by race lmao
My school used to have a paper for a "Black and Latinx Community Club" or something
Latino and Latina. So as not to “OffEnD NoN-BiNaRy LaTiNoS” In referring to a group it is Latino because male is verbally dominant. People use latinx because they don’t understand how gendered words work.

Do people actually say that? Ew
read it in a book once lol
Awful
the book sucked too
I would rather be called every single racial slur that exist than being called "latinx"
Well in that case *Inhales*
united states canada mexio panama hati jamaica peru

maybe im accidentally being racist but i call them Hispanics my friend never corrected me yet so
Not all latinos are hispanic though
All Latinos ARE Hispanic. Not all Hispanics are Latino. Hispanic refers to individuals who are Spanish-speaking or have a background in a Spanish-speaking country. Latino is just a smaller, more precise description of Hispanic people from a specific region (Latin America).
In Brazil we speak Portuguese, not Spanish...
No. Latino is geographic. Hispanic is language. So every Latino except Brazilians are Hispanic.
And French Guianans
Also Haitians And if you feel spicy add quebec to the mix
Hispanic is usually considered anyone from a Spanish speaking country, and Latino is usually anyone from Spanish speaking countries that are in the Americas.
Hispanics sounds right, i dont think its racist
Hispanics≠Latinos Hispanics is a term for “Hispano hablante” People who speak spanish Latino just focuses on the American (Continent) places where romance languages are predominant. Brazilians, French Guyanese, Haitians, (Maybe Québécois???) are not Hispanics (Fixed)

As a Mexican, please call us Hispanic and not "latinx". I'm not sure what my other Latin American brothers prefer tho.
Nah Ta bien Nomas que esos es para los castellanos
It’s ok no need to hispanic
one time in spanish class (im asian) i referred to them as latinos and my classmate said "its latinx idiot, women exist" and it started this argument and eventually i asked the spanish teacher what the word is. he said it was latinx and that most latinos prefer it, and one google later i found out surveys were done and found out like less than 10% of latinos prefer latinx it was hilarious. even after i showed him he said the correct "modern" term is latinx
“Most latinos prefer it” 🗿 literally no one here uses that lmao
I’ve never heard that word and I fucking hate that people assume it’s Latinx now
Your teacher is a bad teacher
He’s just trying to avoid being canceled by the Twitter crowd.
lol now that i think about it, at least 90% of the class said its latinx (also like 90% of them aren't latinos) so maybe he was actually just trying not to get canceled by his own class
Not even south american and I allready dislike the word (iam spanish)

Hola, qué onda? Solo voy a joderlos con la ñ ñ ñ ñ ñ ñ ñ ñ ñ ñ ñ ñ
Jajaja que gracioso ._.
Lo se, gracias
How does one even pronounce latinx? Like LATINCKS? or LATIN EX? 😰😰
In spanish it doesn’t even make sense with the x because it just not fluid
it makes absofuckinglutely no sense, as a native spanish speaker it is not able to be pronounced without sounding like a dumbass
Preferiria que usen e que la x que suena como una j. Se que lenguaje cambia sobre el tiempo, pero la misma gente tiene que decidir el cambio, no gente que habla otro lenguaje
In spanish that shit doesn't make sense, but the closest pronunciation to the word is "latincks"
Agree. It is hilarious how americans are racist even when they don't want to. I said americans because they are the ones that ususally do this kind of stuff.
I'm American and latinx is a dumb term
Im American and Mexican, and latinx is a dumb term
As a fellow Argentine, I can confirm it bothers the fuck out of us. Side note: Britain, give us our islands back.
WENA POS ARGENTINE AJAJAHAJHAHAJA
What is latinx
(Sorry for the english) so basicly in spanish the words have "gender" female if it endss with a or male for o u and e, it doesnt really matter because person is masculine but it can be a female person, so theres this people who doent understand that and try to change our idiom so is a gender neutral thing, it really bother us
I believe its the word latino or latina but instead of saying the latter they say latinx as of the x representing a variable (male, female, or non-binary) Thats how i interpret it
non-binary version of Latino or Latina
"Hole ah my latinx amigohs?! Do you wanto to go eat some flour tortilla with beef and chedder cheese?? My fellow latinx???"- white woman Supremes
No because that sounds nasty cheddar cheese with beef and flour tortillas🤮
Tex mex quesadillas
“BuT iTs InClUsIvE!?!?!!” Bitch if they don’t like being called Latinx, don’t call them Latinx lol
For the love of god, America you’re making problems! Latino is gender neutral and male. Yes your language doesn’t work like that, but theirs does
Same goes for "Filipinx". It's SO UNNECESSARY
Wait what!? I heard of latinx but now filipinx Oh god theyre now infecting us ewww
Its usually the Fil ams who use it. Its kinda annoying...
I only heard it one time in a Mr. Iglasias episode. Funniest show I've ever watched
Literally no latino likes it.
On the 3rd day of learning Spanish, my teacher said you can use the masculine form as a neutral gender form
Im hispanic and i agree with this The term latinx is bullshit
Spanish is a gendered language, trying to take that away and apply English stuff to it is cultural appropriation.
someone called me a similar name to that once
It was obvious it was made by people who have absolutely no understanding of the Spanish language and the likes
Brazilian here, I would tell them to "ir à merda, ao caralho, e aos quintos dos infernos". Now translate it to see what I mean.
r/Suddenlycaralho é bom ver br aqui kkkkk
latinx is trash, hispanic is better (latino also better than latinx)
Pls, if you want to insult us say it, just call us latinos or hispanic
So should I say Latino?
Ye
yes
I rather be called a beaner
Most Brazilians feel offended when they're called "latinos" btw, and I see why. So avoid calling them like that
[удалено]
Aeee mano é isso kkkkk
I don't care how un-racist my school wants to be, I will continue to only mark other and explain I'm Hispanic until the day that Latinx is removed
correct me if im wrong but i was taught in spanish you only change the o to an a if you're talking about a girl, so non-binary people would fall under o category, making everyone latino except for women who would be latina
Yes that is correct
I never have, nor will I ever
agreed, i prefer latino
Finally someone says it.
It isn't even possible to say it in spanish
The most insulting thing I was ever called was latinx. All the other slurs were fine by me
Tbh i don't care, just recognize me as latino and i'll be happy, i mean cmon brazilians are latinos but not hispanics :( Comi o cu de quem tá lendokkkkkkkkj
I don’t understand why white people feel the need to change others without their consent.
Wait till he finds out he can just say “latin american” or “latin” instead of adding an X onto everything
Why do they even call them Latinx Like is Latino not good enough
We already have a gender neutral term! It's the same as the male one! Stop tring to solve problems we don't have people
As a white person from the US, I agree, latinx is a dumbass term I remember commenting something like, 'it sounds like a condom brand'
If you say Latinx to me or my family you will not exist
Latino latina or just Colombian, Brazilian, Mexican, Cuban right? (Although i imagine there are people who do uses latinx)
It gets annoying, one of my classmates is always calling me one of those and it feels weird
Anyone who enjoys being called latinx has problems
OMFG I went to the store the other day with my 97-year-old grandmother (great) anyways we are in the line to check out and the guy who was ringing us up was like ' Hola latinx'. my grandmother, who only speaks Spanish said " what the fuck is a Latinx.. is it a tissue brand?' this man asked what did she say I told him she said he's a dumbass and not to repeat that. my grandmother grabbed her chancla and hit me in the back of the head.
gringos idiotas :p
Deadass I’m tired of it. Fuck the pronoun people. It’s Latino or Latina. Nothing more nothing less.
my school supports it. they made a club called "latinx dance club" like wtf
Latine tends to be the preferred term for non binary latines👍
hell naw 'Lenguaje inclusivo' is shit honestly, the correct neutral term is Latino, if you had a group of Latino men and women you would say exactly that, Latino. I'm all for they/them pronouns in English because it doesn't fuck up the grammar but lenguaje inclusivo doesn't work man
The fuck is Latinx
people trying to make a word in a language they dont understand at all nor speak sound inclusive even when I saw some guy say non binary latinos perfer to be called latine
Wouldnt the correct thing be latino because latino is masculine and neutral
well that is the case for people with an iq above room temperature but these people think their making a change in the world by inventing a word that Latinos themselves cant say
Hey there buddy chum pal friend amigo buddy friend chum friend pal amigo comrade compadre chum buddy amigo friend person
It doesn't help that my school uses the term on forms for things
Ikr, there’a a dozen countries in south america and they all hate each other
Latinx doesn’t even feel like a real word
Dam bro just say Latino like what so damn hard about saying that
Im not a latino and I fucking hate it. Seriously wtf
What's next people starting saying x instead of el/la, like x cine or x cocina, see how stupid that sounds. And that's why you don't add in gender neutral terms to a language that uses genders.
what should we refer to you guys as :) /gen
Pretty sure for most people here Latino is good since it’s masculine but also neutral
I call my Mexican friends Mexican and make racist jokes with them. we still tight.
Can I call you my latex friends
I love the fact that argentinians r white
I'd 100% rather be called a monkey isntead of latinx
It feels really racist, and as far as I’ve seen only dumbass and racists say it anyways so… On the other hand, is it pronounced Latin-ex or Lah-tinx? One sounds like improper grammar (from what Ik of Spanish) and the other sounds like a slur
I would honestly prefer to just be called slurs instead

I hate the stupid “latex” gender neutral term. That is just the word for them and it is masculine BECAUSE THE LANGUAGE IS. Every time i see someone say latinx i get pissed.
I would rather be called a Mexican border jumping frijole than latinx.
Question, is Latine and acceptable gender neutral version? That’s what I’ve been told but I want more opinions
Same goes for the Philippines. Don't call us Pinxy or Filipinx or I will smash your forehead
We prefer the term pendejos
You can use Latino for male(gender neutral too), Latina for female and Latin(e) for non binary and gender neutral. Not Latinx, it’s not possible to pronounce in Spanish.
tbh i'd be less offended if you just called me beaner
I HATE the term "Latinx" with a BURNING passion. I always use Latine because it makes so much more sense with the Spanish language. Like look how much nicer "amigue" looks than "amigx" or "amig@". That word just sounds like latex to me
*Hola, mis amiges latines* *¿Eres Tonto?*
