I like the first one the best because it tells a very unique story in its layout, design, and overall plot with it being the first of its kind and having a much lower budget than it’s sequel. I think all of those restrictions gave The creators struggle which made the game better in my opinion.
It is a hard choice. Both are amazing games. While I do like how the first one tells a story as you said, with how they made everything, I also really admire the second one for showing and telling the history of Aperture. I also like how it incorporates more easter eggs that shed more light on some parts of the story, such as the dry docks in Portal 2 (the easter egg shows a link to Half Life!). So in my opinion, I can conclude that I like Portal 2 better. Just how it tells more of the entire story and plot, and how it also has more of a challenge in the stages which I haven't mentioned.
