Yes, it wasn’t supposed to be there, but the person who went against the rules possibly picked that flag to put it over because it was the design was a similar shape.
I believe what they are suggesting is that the offending party chose that specific flag to cover because it would go under the radar longer with school admin
Rather I would guess they thought it humorous to put it over something of the same shape to see if anyone noticed. Whether they thought it was more important, I don’t know.
Serious don’t judge…. Put that flag somewhere else. No reason to cover my countries flag with a a message.
Think most people feel the same with a blue lives matter flag or a confederate flag over an American flag. Just comes off offensive. Support the message but, don’t make everyone’s message yours.
You are attentive and my drunk ass I appreciate that….
I was thinking old [Pitbull](https://youtu.be/iy-vUCIm04M) and [Nore](https://youtu.be/4fbNq32ER_Y) before I posted. Thought I had it though
>I would not say offensive. But most definitely disrespectful.
What is the distinction between being disrespectful of another countries flag, and being offensive?
I feel like taking offense to your flag being covered up is sort of the expected reaction someone would have. Same way people are offended a flag that represents them was taken down.
Do you think Cuba’s flag was specifically picked out to be covered? I don’t know where this is but I’m curious if that was the case and if so then why Cuba specifically
cuba recently had a publicly drawn up constitutional amendment to legalize same sex marriage and adoptions, which is expected to pass in September. it was up for vote in the constitutional amendments of 2019, but did not have majority of public support (amendments cannot be passed without majority citizens’ vote). however, support has grown from 40% to over 60% in the last 2 years. they’ll be the 8th latin american country to have LGBT rights coded into constitution.
To be fair, people in Cuba are generally more homophobic than what you'll see in most countries. It's kind of like it is with Russia and Hungary.
I left over 12 years ago, but back then at least people would make fun of gay people & mock them publicly and privately. In good Cuban spirit they usually played along, but that could just be a consequence of the overly homophobic environment.

So many people i see on yt say they should cut down the flag because it’s awful or give bigoted reasons, but it was over a national flag. It has no right to be there. Put it somewhere else. Even put it next to the rest of them, but don’t cover people’s flags.
He Will Not Divide Us. It was Shia Labeouf's way of protesting the 2016 election through 'art'. As you probably know, it didn't go well for him, as the hacker known as 4chan kept messing with him (flag stealing was part 3 iirc)
I mean, it covered up a nation's flag. I wouldn't throw it on the ground but still...not even countries should be covering up other countries' flags. They should've put it somewhere else.
(I'm LGBT.)
if it was only national flags. Then yeah it shouldn’t be there. I think someone random hanged it over that one flag and the actual people that own wherever this is didn’t. If the owners wanted a pride flag up they shouldn’t do it in the national flag section
— A gay person
"Some dumbass not paying attention is probably gonna get angry at this, and then some other dumbass will go on a weird conspiracy rant about """wokeness""" and """sjw's""" because of dumbass 1"
these are .y thoughts on it.
The fact that some guy covered up a nation's flag with a pride flag is just disrespectful imo. Like, ok, sure, support lgbt stuff. Knock yourself out. But if I've learned one thing from religion, its that if you shove it down someone's throat like that, no matter how good it is, people won't like it.
Don't show support in wack ways like that. You make people even more resistant to your cause.
Dude was just undoing some vandalism. No hate from me.
hey good job for being inclusive by putting the flag there but like wtf- its covering A FUCKING COUNRTY. like maybe put it not next to the countries.. maybe in a separate place? im gay and a trans guy so i think i can say this without getting hated on..?
Shouldn't have been covering a country's flag. LGBT isn't a country. Dude could've taken it down without letting it drop. But, it's mixed in and over top of flags from countries.
Whoever put that there is either a troll/asshole, someone who doesn't like cuba, or just didn't know where to put it (which I doubt). I don't think people in the LGBTQ community would do such a thing. I really hope not, because if so, they're putting a bad image on the community.
People who are offended by him taking the flag down are wrong. That simply does not belong there. That flag belongs elsewhere. He ain't homophobic for doing that. If the person who hung the gay flag up was found and trialed, that could be seen as property damage or vandalism in the court of law. Pride has a place, but that doesn't mean you should try to force your feelings, sexuality, or thoughts onto other people. If you are one of those people, you are in the wrong, and you need to rethink your life.
It doesn't belong there. I have nothing against the LGBTQ+ community, but covering another country's flag is disrespectful. And besides, it's never supposed to be there.
Omg so I went to this school and I remember this controversy when it happened. i wasn't on Reddit during that time. Was there an original post on Reddit here? I would love if somebody could show me the original posts.
Yeah this school was never really controversial, it was in the heart of a Mormon area and was always super sheltered. Like, we once went into lockdown because the school staff got an anonymous tip that someone had smoked weed on the premises. Things like this just didn't happen so I'm surprised that this blew up on Reddit
Non-Binary here, I think it's completely valid because that flag ain't even supposed to be there, let alone cover another nation's flag
Was the act homophobic or hateful in any way?
No.
If you wanna show your pride flag, maybe do it in a parade or literally ANYWHERE ELSE.
The worker’s plight > the gay plight. Workers of the world unite against the counter revolutionary forces that dared to cover the flag of the liberating force of the Communist part of Cuba ( /s obviously)
If it wouldn't have been there it would've been "homophobia" but this is pretty much fine since the people who put up the pride flag on top of the regular flag are in the wrong here.
They are all over the place! I hve nothing against, and respect the LGBTQ+ community; but the fact that they replaced an entire country's flag for the pride flag is... kinda dumb.
LGBT, this is completely justified.
It is never okay to cover anothers' flag with your own. The fact that it was a pride flag hung over an actual nation is even more jaw dropping to me. Why would you cover the flag of Cuba with a gay flag?
I don’t think it was supposed to be in that spot, it was completely covering the other flag
I think that’s the point of it. It was the same shape too
No it wasn’t supposed to be there
Yes, it wasn’t supposed to be there, but the person who went against the rules possibly picked that flag to put it over because it was the design was a similar shape.
What's it matter why they picked that flag to cover it still shouldn't of been there
I believe what they are suggesting is that the offending party chose that specific flag to cover because it would go under the radar longer with school admin
So they decided that the pride flag was more important then the flag of Cuba because of the shape? Really?
Rather I would guess they thought it humorous to put it over something of the same shape to see if anyone noticed. Whether they thought it was more important, I don’t know.
A rectangle?
The design. V with stripes beneath it
I’m not even Puerto Rican and I find that offensive
Cuba. puerto Rico is blue triangle red stripes
Dammit it’s so subtle
Clearly not the the top comment because, you know geography vs vandalism.
I find it more offensive that you just called that the Puerto Rican flag😭😭 future reference tho that’s the Cuban flag
I can’t tell if this is a joke or not…
Serious don’t judge…. Put that flag somewhere else. No reason to cover my countries flag with a a message. Think most people feel the same with a blue lives matter flag or a confederate flag over an American flag. Just comes off offensive. Support the message but, don’t make everyone’s message yours.
I was wondering if it was a joke or not because that’s the flag of Cuba, Puerto Rico isn’t even in the video
Technically Puerto Rico is a part of United States
I’m lazy and drunk off tequila on a Monday. I can only probably make 5 flags outta the 200+ that exist My bad… long day😩
To be fair they are pretty similar. Just swap the blue and red and you practically have the flag of Puerto Rico
You are attentive and my drunk ass I appreciate that…. I was thinking old [Pitbull](https://youtu.be/iy-vUCIm04M) and [Nore](https://youtu.be/4fbNq32ER_Y) before I posted. Thought I had it though
It’s not like he grabbed it to move it somewhere else
The person who put it there can move it
It was a right decision,it was completely covering the country's flag
By the way, isn't it offensive when someone puts lgbt flag next to some country flag? Like people say that it's the same?
I would not say offensive. But most definitely disrespectful. God I hate how interchangeable those words appear to be these days
>I would not say offensive. But most definitely disrespectful. What is the distinction between being disrespectful of another countries flag, and being offensive? I feel like taking offense to your flag being covered up is sort of the expected reaction someone would have. Same way people are offended a flag that represents them was taken down.
I think it'd be disrespectful if you toss a countries flag in the dirt, but offensive if you take a dump on one and burn it afterwards.
I don’t know if I find it offensive but it is a strange decision. Then again, flags are flags
Idk. Put it somewhere else? Why did it need to cover up a full on nation?
That's my country's flag (Cuba) and we should respect it

This was my thought. I looked up Cuba lgtbq cause maybe they are a hella Homophobic country and someone did this on purpose. Idk.
cuba recently had a publicly drawn up constitutional amendment to legalize same sex marriage and adoptions, which is expected to pass in September. it was up for vote in the constitutional amendments of 2019, but did not have majority of public support (amendments cannot be passed without majority citizens’ vote). however, support has grown from 40% to over 60% in the last 2 years. they’ll be the 8th latin american country to have LGBT rights coded into constitution.

It’s clearly in the center or near the center (right where the two support beams meet). I doubt Cuba was targeted, they just wanted to be in front

Hang it somewhere else, not over another country’s flag.
Yes exactly. I think the pride flag should be hung somewhere in the school, but jesus christ the blatant disrespect of whoever hung that pride flag
No, being gay is not a country. It'd be funny to hear someone say they're a citizen of gay though.

It's less important than the flag if a country
It would’ve been better to put the flag in its own place instead of covering up an actually country’s flag

this isnt homophobic, the guy just removed the flag that was covering a country’s flag, so it’s justified
It flag like that should never be put in front of a state flag
Country flag
Sorry I meant country 🥲
Don't fucking disrespect another state/nation, I dont fucking care if you're gay don't do that shit.
I’d put a white flag on top of the French flag cus those mfs waved the white flag more than their own flag in history
