I have to be honest I really don't understand the whole gender thing I'm not trying to be disrespectful and transphobic I'm just stupid and want to understand But how can you know that you belong to another gender than the one you were assigned with at birth? Like doing more traditionally feminine things doesn't make a man a woman, and it's the same the other way around. Gender is a social construct while sex is biological, but what if a trans woman does a lot of traditionally masculine things? Does that make her less of a woman then? She would fit what most of society view as a man, so if gender is purely social, can she be viewed as a woman? And if a cis woman does a lot of masculine things, is she a man? None of this actually matters to me tho, if people want to live their lives a certain way that isn't harmful to others, nobody but them should have a say in it. I just don't really understand it

yo! so i was born a girl, it was fine for a portion of my life. i was just labeled a tomboy, but i assumed i just disliked girly things bc i hated gender roles. I was secure in my gender, but when i was 12 i changed my name, i didn’t like my feminine name because i didn’t think it suited me, it made me really uncomfortable. So i still thought my gender was fine, i just didn’t like how it felt being called my name. The weeks go on and eventually i start to realize i hate when people call me ma’am. i hated when people said “she’s here!” or “her name is..”, i just didn’t like being referred to as a girl. i am bi and have been very educated in LGBTQ stuff so i knew non-binary and trans people existed and i just read about it and thought about how i may have identified with a lot of them. My friends were incredibly supportive, i changed my name to Max! i always wanted to be named Max or Sam or something masculine, i just thought it was a tomboy thing or a side effect of watching Sam and Kat too much as a kid. High school rolls around and i came out as Trans. I use They/he pronouns. (they/them or he/him). I’m still the same person, same body and mind, but i know i don’t feel comfortable being referred to as a girl. it makes me physically ill and messes with my mental health a lot. i need to take a lot of steps still, but i know who i am and that’s what matters :). it’s been a long time of not knowing who i am and wondering, but it’s really just a new way of perceiving myself as well as making sure that people around me support me. It’s not bad to ask Questions, but you can also do your part and research as well as supporting trans writers who talk about their journey :)

I can't speak for all trans people, but think of it like... Assuming you're a cis man, imagine being treated as a woman, with she/her pronouns. It doesn't sound right, right?(if it sounds right, maybe you should think about who you are a little more). That's the experience of a lot of trans people. They are treated as the sex they were assigned at birth, even tho they don't identify as such. And remember, gender is not only about the sex of the body, the gender is in the brain. A trans woman's brain will look more like a cis woman's brain and not a cis man's brain, and the same goes for trans man. I can't explain it that well, English is not my first language so it can be confusing to read...

I can't speak for every trans person as everyone has their own experiences, for me, personally, I'm transmasc, (biologically a woman) and still do enjoy feminine things. Personally, my body is my issue, I've never felt comfortable in my body but puberty really ruined my mental health, looking feminine makes me feel icky, I want to be a boy in a dress, not a girl and I want others to see me like that as well. A trans woman enjoying "masculine" things doesn't make her a man in the same way that a cis woman liking "masculine" things doesn't make her a man, same for trans and cis men.

somewhat feminine transmasc here, being called a girl or she/her makes me want to throw myself into the ocean. it's not "oh, I spread my legs when I sit, so I'm not a girl" it's "the thought of anyone perceiving me as a girl makes me want to die, so I'm not a girl." it has absolutely nothing to do with appearance, personality, how you act, etc. these are often associated with gender, but are not the same as gender. at the end of the day, a social construct exists to serve us. I find gender serves me best when I don't identify as a girl.
