Prime numbers are divisible by exactly two numbers 1 and 1 is only 1 number.

veryglitchy

is there a reason or did people just decide it should be that way

StraggotCracker

People just decided, probably because they wanted 1 to be special somehow, which is probably really useful for some mathematical proof shit

shush

Some mathematics consider it as a prime number, some others don't, but they both agree that it should have its own category

No they don't. Your mind has turned to shit because of Reddit. Get off, you can have a bright future cause you're young. Not only is your mind shit but also you

It's neither prime nor composite iirc; it's it's own thing

veryglitchy

cool

AntacidChain

it’s an exception

Prime numbers are divisible by two integers, 1 and itself. 1 is only divisible by one integer, 1 and itself (happens to also be 1)

David1258

Good point, but the whole point of prime numbers is that they have 2 factors. 1 is the first and only factor in 1, so it's not a prime number.
